Marry Me, Jon Stewart!!! - Last and Final Word

avatar

If you haven't caught up with your tivo today, run, don't walk.

Jon Stewart's Daily Show today was so brilliant, it should be framed and entered into a Hall of Fame for High Art.

Barack, if you're watching, just take its snippets (and you'll know which scenes you need), and run them over and over, for the  next sixty days.  You don't need to make another ad, ever again.

I'd like everybody in this country to watch it.  Perhaps we'll reach some common understanding. Perhaps it will be what finally cracks the thick facade of fanatical resistance to logic, sense, truth, and beauty.   Is there a Hall of Fame for  those Qualities?  Because surely, surely, Jon is its one and only resident.

Bless the man and his entire team of writers.  Take the rest of the year off, guys, you've earned it.

And oh yeah, Jon, marry me!!

I will add - please, please, recommend this post, if you have an ounce of mercy in your souls! My reasons are selfish - I would so like this post to be read by the Daily Show crew...

I saw the Daily Show as well the Colbert's and they were both great tonight.

Colbert has been just awesome this past week. I think he's a genius.

Co-signed! ;)

Stewart and Colbert have been better tonight than at any time in their respective runs. I am saving them on PVR so I can go back and watch when I am down.

Link?

I'll try linking to the Daily Show archives, you can see the full episode now on their website. I haven' seen these there, myself. You might need to be a registered guest (I just registered, took me 20 secs).

Daily Show Sept 5 2008

I'd also highly recommend the segment on Rove vs. Rove, highlighting the complete hypocrisy of the Repubs.

I thought the same thing -- Stewart's team have been doing their research and collected an incredible collection of clips, especially for the John McCain biography video. "Reformed Maverick." It's not just funny; by using so many of McCain's own words, most of it is obviously true.

Agree! First time ever I did not hit the erase on my DVR after watching it. The juxtaposition of McCain's acceptance speech with Bush's acceptance speech was genius.

Easily the most brilliant show on television.

Stewart exposes the logical fallacies that pervade politics better than anyone in a manner that traditional news networks just can't reach if they're trying to be "mainstream."

Traditional media has the task of staying neutral between the two parties. But if one party's politics simply don't follow reason, then this task is inherently tainted.

If the dems pull it out, we owe Stewart & Colbert big time. You can see it in Jon's eyes, he is just as damn mad as we are.

NEW SLOGAN: ""There is something wrong with the Republican Party. Let's teach them a lesson, and throw them out!! We'll make them pay for ignoring you!!""

Stokes the anger of the last 8 years, w/o getting bogged down in detail. Voters know there's something wrong, they now WANT to jump on the horse that will do something about it.

We need more ACTIVE VOICE from now on. No more "Oh my, look at how bad they are..." Make them pay.

Obama should seriously use that Bush/McCain footage against McCain. It would be freaking killer. How could McCain recover from that?

The other thing is that, someone could get that clip and make it go viral. YouTube, DailyMotion, etc. I don't see why not.

Stewart makes Democrats feel good, but he doesn't win elections. They know that they are complete hypocrites, but they also know that hypocrisy doesn't lose as many votes as pushing the "resentment politics" wins.

Democrats need counter this negative, resentment ideas with something more than policy proposals or sarcasm. If the McCain can steal the change mantle from Obama, then Obama deserves to lose. Democratic message control is no better than it was in 2004.

If you think McCain can actually steal the change mantle from Obama you must be kidding yourself.

Absolutely agree on the Daily Show coverage. We, too, saved one of the episodes because it was just too good to delete!

One of the things that I love about Jon Stewart is that he's teaching an entire generation of young people to think critically about the media being pushed at them, rather than just being passive consumers.

i wouldn be so quick to dismiss Jon Stewart's rapier-sharp commentaries from this week. He nailed Newt Gingrich to his chair pointing out GOP hypocrisies, and the Rove v. Rove video clip and the Reformed Maverick videoclip get seen by millions of people, and over and over again.

'Sarah Palin: Gender Card' has been viewed over 2 million times since it went up on the site. If you think this isn't influencing voters - you are mistaken.

Damn! So sick of the server error crap.

Wanted to say, I too did not delete the last 3 days. It's to die for. Really. Jon and Stephen are so fab. I love them.

What is this? Democratic Underground?

avatar

At the time you posted this, I had not heard of the Democratic Underground, and did not understand what you were referring to.

So, just curious, did you assume I'm a man because of my nick? Can't women be rational? :)

here's a link that I think works: http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=184111

it shoes the mccainus(McAnus)/bush footage segment. it is absolutely brilliant. I think Obama SHOULD use this stuff -- not in a nasty way, but how the Daily Show uses it, to tease (with purpose). it drives home the message of: are we going to buy the same crap from the same people again?
