Amid the chatter about the Vice-President nominees, we hear references to the upcoming VP debate.

It is disturbing, on many levels, to hear both Democrats and Republicans relegate this important event to the status of a gender face-off.

Even the Democratic pundits and politicos are making inane statements such as, “Biden can’t go after her like he would another (male).” Or “The bar for her is low, but high for him,” to “He has to be careful of not appearing condescending, as this will be taken as sexist.”

This is demeaning to both the candidates and their constituents.

Whenever a man or woman hears this kind of tripe, each needs to yell, “Foul!”

Equality is not, as some would subscribe, only to be enjoyed or endured when it’s convenient, easy or reserved for specified forums.

There needs to be only four mandates in play for this debate: Respect, Civility, Truth and Stay On Topic!

This isn’t a social occasion or any cause for male chivalry and/or female curtsies.

Lady and Gentleman, leave your gender at the door and may the best candidate triumph!

Good point, Aunt Sam...I am sick of all the "be careful, be gentle with the girl..." If a woman wants to play with the men, she'd better be ready to be treated like a man. Respect, Civility,Truth, Issues, absolutely...but you shouldn't have to treat a woman any differently. In fact, a woman who is treated differentially should be screaming bloody murder. There should be absolutely NO double standard.
