Just saw it on CNN, "McCain Unfit to Lead!" 527 National Attack Ad is underway!
Surprise, Repubs!
527's are on the attack - but not against Obama, which is what MSM has been predicting for months, but against McBush!!
The ex-POW who describes McBush as reckless and dangerous is now featured in a 527 attack ad. That's right a 527 attack ad in exactly the Rove mode of operation, but AGAINST Mr. POW himself!
It Proclaims"
"McCain Unfit to Lead."
In EXACTLY those words. Sound familiar, Repubs???? LOL
The next thing that will happen is MSM will echo that ad, with stories about how Kerry was attack the same way.
Meanwhile, in delicious irony, immediately after that ad ran on CNN, CNN continued it's interview with someone they falsely describe as "a Democratic Pollster" who started to rip into Obama as "falling behind in the polls" (which is clearly false to begin with) "because he is perceived as soft because he is on the defensive all the time now."
Absolutely hilarious. One could only hope that a monitor was playing for that "Democratic Pollster" so that he was able to think about it as he read those words on the teleprompter.
What can McCain going to do about this ad?
1) It features a fellow POW, so he can't POW his way out of it, although he will try.
2) He will try to claim that Obama is running a nasty campaign, but the charge will run hollow. (shameless, bald-faced plug: see my previous blog entitled, "Obama has this timed perfectly" LOL)
3) He will try to claim it is shameful "lies" but MSM is going to, in turn, recite the "lies" that McBush himself has been spouting. (It was very important for Obama to wait for McBush to repeat those lies HIMSELF, so that he can't now claim that "other people" were responsible for the lies, not him - a defense that many "pundits" are still trying to claim on behalf of McBush - as in: "McBush is FAR too honorable a man to be campaigning with lies!!!" arguments that are now very easily countered with ACTUAL VIDEO CLIPS FROM LAST WEEK!!
In other words, despite the fact that the McBush campaign has been desperately keeping both of their lying candidates as far away from interviews as possible, McCain's dismal appearance on "The View" is going to help him go down in flames along with Palin's performance, increasingly viewed as stilted and contrived, in that "Charlie" interview. By providing proof that the McBush/Palin is PERSONALLY running a foul campaign.
Just think of how long the late night shows are going to enjoy telling Palin jokes with "Charlie" in every punch line! LOL
Meanwhile, Obama will be truthfully saying that "he did everything he could to discourage 527's from putting up attack ads in his favor." It no longer matters whether he is telling the truth about that, since he has SUCCESSFULLY BRANDED McCain as a nasty liar running a dirty campaign.
Watch how Obama will now indignantly demand that their 527's now be shut down (having beat McBush to the punch LOL). I love it! (see "timed perfectly" for why I love this! LOL)
McBush/Pale-in' have been played by the master playa.
They won't even know what hit them. They bite hard and now Obama is reelin' 'em in nice and slow. They'll struggle mightily, but in the end they will end up gutted, stuffed, mounted, and finally HUNG over Obama's fireplace. LOL
No, HUNG is not evidence that I am being sexist OR racist. Honest injun squaw. LOL

Dem. 527s are playing with fire on that POW stuff. Yes, it worked for Republicans with Kerry but could easily have backfired on them. McCain has so many other juicy, less risky targets.

Kerry was already seen as anti-American because of throwing his medals over the fence and slurring vets. So the attacks on his military record were easy.
The POW bit in the ad is weak. The temper part is a screw-up. God, that's a terrible ad. Just a he-said/she-said about McCain's temper and you think McCain supporters or those on the fence will dump him over that? I'd guess it will harden his support and give Republicans a good opportunity to respond. (Of course Republicans ran the "voices" stuff on McCain in 2000, but hypocrisy is not an issue, effectiveness is).

Did Obama renounce the use of 527s? I thought he did, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

He did before he didn't. It's part of his late surge campaign of hope.

Seriously dude, grow up! Have you seen the ads tying Obama to Kilpatrick or the Reverend Wright ads in Michigan. The Republicans are playing HARDBALL. The Democrats have to fight back in much the same way.
Will it hurt the Post Partisan brand, of course, but that message also needs to be reinforced by a reason why NOT to vote for McCain.

He shouldn't have shut down the 527's in the first place. Go look through OpenLeft archives - they were none too happy, and they were Obama supporters for quite some time, despite acknowledging he's not much of a progressive.

Yep, he sure did. You can be sure that he will continue renouncing them, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Heh, heh, heh.
Nothing funnier than a bunch of Repubs crying foul over Dems using their own Rove tactic of "attacking your opponent's strength."
Their answer is, "Hey, you can't do that!"
"POW, POW, POW!~!~!"
"It only worked against Kerry because he threw away his medals FORTY years ago."
"The fact that McBush has aired the most disgusting, lying ads in the history of Presidential campaigns LAST WEEK is completely irrelevant!!"
"POW, POW, POW!~!~!"
Hilarious!

But it *IS* irrelevant. I don't write the rules. Being a POW 40 years ago and throwing your dog tags 40 years ago (actually 35, isn't it?) is where our voters are for some reason. Always re-fighting Vietnam. A perverse less-friendly version of Groundhog Day. Is Sarah Palin our Andy McDowell?

"actually 35, isn't it?"
Vietnam was over for us in 1973. It took a few more years before it was over for S. Vietnam.
I thought Kerry threw his medals away before the end. I gave mine away in 1975 to a Russian sailor on a Russian Naval ship that was in the Boston harbor for some kind of Russian-US cooperation agreement anniversary. My ship (USS Albany - CG 10 - the flag ship for Adm. Stansfield Turner) escorted them while they were in the US.
The Russian officers were allowed to tour our ship. They refused to believe we had color TV's in the enlisted men's quarters. They thought that we had put them in as propaganda.
Their enlisted men weren't allowed to leave their ship. At night they watched old Mickey Mouse cartoons on their fantail.

I think it would be better in some kind of context, but it is real and shows a contemporary of McCain's, who was also a POW giving his opinion. Can't hurt, in my opinion.
