Flash: House Votes Down Bailout Bill and Dow is down over 500 points

avatar

And so the drama continues.
As of now, with all votes cast, the bailout bill has been voted down in the House by a tally of 206 for vs 227 against. 141 democrats voted in favor and only 65 republicans cast a vote for passage. on the down side 94 dems voted against and 132 repub's did the same. trading on wall street is grinding to a halt as all eyes are glued to the voted, staring in disbelief. even newt gingrich coming out in favor of the bill wasn't enough to turn the trick with the gop. ed gillespie is now talking about "executive orders" to dal with the ongoing crisis. If anyone neded any further proof that george bush is a lame duck, they now have it.
stay tuned as America continues to come apart at the seams.

Late update: one house emeber has now switched his vote and, as of 1:57, the count is 207 in favor and 226 against.

The commentators on CNN are all outright b.s.ing right now and telling those gullible listeners what they want and how they and the middle class want this bailout yesterday for their own good. They and not saying a word about the overwhelming public outcry AGAINST this rush to bailout. It seems they are rying hard to sell this rush to the public with kindergarten-style fear and manipulation. They already know that 99 of 100 calls to congress has been against this rush, so they must be hoping to change minds this way. Only problem is Americans seem to have caught onto the manipulation.

And the Congressional leadership being interviewed on TV right now are not saying that the huge public outcry has anything to do with the failure of the bailout to pass. That ommission is interesting, because if this isn't some ploy to make it look like there is real debate in Congress on this rush-job, the huge public outcry must have had some real effect. Not one person who VOTED AGAINST is being interviewed.

And if this failure to pass the bill is due to some members who actually wanted to assess it carefully and cared about the public outcry, how interesting that the Congressional leadership--and the MSM --won't even acknowledge that the concerns of some members about what American citizens want had anything to do with their voting no. (would that mean the leadership in Congress and the corporate media don't want to encourage any additional members of the public to bother to participate in the government of the people? Because after all, if those who were protesting actually had some effect, more would join in and fight for their interests)

If members who voted against this are not playing a game of some sort, then there is a genuine revolt in Congress against the leadership and they don't want anyone to know. So it's possible that we have some very rational and capable members of Congress to replace the nutty leadership that want to again rush such unprecedented legislation.

It's just beyond unreasonable for any members to try to rush through a bill to give away another tril of our children's money, with no transparency and without careful deliberation of all the options and getting public feedback.
