dems to let ban on offshore drilling expire--
The alleged "emergency financial crisis" that was brilliantly scheduled to transpire the very last week of congress before the election is getting all the attention.
Meanwhile, the very same week, the entire ban on offshore drilling will expire.
"First come first serve, drill to your heart's content. Let's also steal 700 billion before we break."

I'm glad you posted this, as it's been buried in all the sound and fury over the Wall St. bailout. WTF are Democrats thinking? They can include the existing ban or the version with 50 mile limits that they just approved... It's a complete and utter cave; they've been bullied into submission by the Republicans...

whatever happened, it appears it just wasn't good strategic politics on behalf of democrats. They all knew the ban was scheduled to expire within a week.
It's likely that the Republicans would not agree to any bill whatsoever, even their own, and just let the ban expire.
