Dear Media...

avatar

Dear media,

Sarah Palin, Rudy, and many Republicans just laughed at someone for being a community organizer in Chicago.

You were preparing for this narrative that Palin would rise above your asinine B.S., but this is serious.  Let's not kid ourselves, she could have said anything and you would have been jumping up and down.  Republicans claim to be all about charity and individuals deciding to serve their country.  If they decide to do this in other ways than in the military, that doesn't mean that they should be given a pass to disparage their service.

This is why I'm a Democrat and why I support Barack Obama for President.  I like the idea of people commiting themselves to public service.  Whether it's through the military or through any old public service, anyone seriously trying to dedicate themselves to the well-being of other people is a good thing.  To say that it was a good job to make fun of someone else for involving themselves in the lives of so many people in need destroys all of your credibility.

*sigh*

They didn't mock community organizers. They mocked the fact that it didn't make him qualified to be President. The Obama campaign has used it as part of his resume. It's fair game, in my opinion.

I agree that it's fair game, but if you laugh about it, that's fair game too. I'd like to see you go to the south side of Chicago and try to do some organizing and help the community there. It is shameful that the party that claims that virtually all help should be made by individual charity would make fun of someone for taking the initiative and busting his ass to try to help people.

They laughed at community SERVICE.

LOL

Wingnuts hate America.

But I have faith, the MSM may swoon over Palin, and generally rolls over for the GOP bullies, but the people are losing jobs and homes. No amount of vitriol and sneering can erase the Bush-McCain economic disaster.

Robby Baby, No, she didn't mock community organizers.

What she did do was compare her "real responsibilities" as mayor of a town of 7,000 with being a community organizer. A far fairer comparison would have been her exerience in Wasilla against Obama's as State Senator from a very large and complex urban district in a tough and populous state. She avoided the fair comparison directly and went on to imply that legislators, state and federal, D's and R's alike, have no real significant reponsibility. I'll bet you bought it, too.

Palin is a gimmick. Effectively, she's hijacked the political discourse, taking us away from issues and onto personalities. No way in hell anyone whose head is not bent around already could possibly assert that these two resumes (Obama's and Palin's) reflect accomplishment of near equal weight.

As long as she remains in the spotlight, steers clear of excessive verbal gaffs, and is free of any prolonged exposure of scandalous past activities, her nomination should be regarded as successful. A successful political gimmick, that is! One designed to motivate the winger-base and take both campaigns away from what we have experienced for the past seven and a half plus years! (Sadly, the joke is on all Americans.)

Furthermore, I suspect that even folks like you will come to realize, before November, the gimmickry here and how it has driven McCain's VP choice. Even though, I doubt it will change your "old politics" inspired voting decisions.

I'm a bit confused by this.

I agree she was picked as a gimmick and I'll be voting for Obama, but how is what I'm talking about "old politics"?

She and Rudy mentioned "community organizer" and there was a chorus of boos. I think everyone can agree that a community organizer is a good thing. Especially if you are going to "shrink the size of government" then you are going to need a lot of help from community organizers. I know there was a lot wrong with what she said, but I found this community organizer demeaning and booing particularly repugnant and hypocritical.

Not to you personally Trailerville. My comment was a "letter" open to all, but actually addressed to "RobbyLove".

Well sure. "Community organizer" is code for "Dangerous Conniving Uppity Communist Black Urban Revolutionary." It's like Gil Scott-Heron, Al Sharpton, and Clay Davis all rolled into one.

And he's coming for your children!!!

She said she had responsibilities as mayor. Yet she was so heavy handed the people of Wasilla demanded she hire a administrator to handle the town's day to day business or face a recall.

Sarah Palin took a town with $0 debt in 1996 and left it $22 million in the hole in 2002, mostly from the hockey rink/sports complex she shoved down their throats which never became the money generator she promised it would. Another white elephant from another white elephant.

Even with the stable Clinton economy during most of her mayoral tenure and Jack Abramoff's crony she hired to lobby Washington to help her now indicted buddy Ted Stevens ring up $27 million in federal pork for tiny Wasilla (pop. 5000 when she entered office) she still managed to leave the town swimming in debt. Three of her pork projects even made McCain's own wasteful spending list.

The following organization is the offshoot of President Reagan's Private Sector Survey on Cost Control started in 1984, also known as the Grace Commission. Definitely not a Dem friendly group but even these guys apparently think Alaska is America's welfare queen state.

As governor she is borrowing from Alaska's future while she wants to blow today's Alaskan windfall oil tax bonanza and the huge surpluses they've generated on bread and circuses tax giveaways.

Alaska gets 89% of it's operating budget from taxing oil coming out of the ground just like Arab kingdoms and Hugo Chavez's Venezuela. They have no state income or sales tax up there. Instead of using that windfall to pay for all the profligate spending her Republican legislature keeps sending her she's issuing bonds to pay for it which Alaskans and US taxpayers will have to pay off in future years while she takes credit for tax "rebates" while she's governor.

Her fiscal policy is a disaster in the making which won't hit til she's left the governor's office. She'd be a disaster as Vice President especially to a President who despite his grevious wounds and type A personality is already past the age his father and grandfather died of sudden heart attacks.

She can put on all the lipstick she wants but her political record is for the dogs.
