Attention Josh Marshall
Regarding this post.
Can anyone else think of a major political figure who's done onlyNO ONE CARES.
Barbara Walters-style prime time celebrity interviews rather than
appearing on actual news shows? I can't. And really a political
campaign will do whatever it can get away with. But what news
organization has ever done that? What an embarrassment.
The American People don't have standards to which they hold their political candidates. It doesn't matter what kind of interviews she does, when she does them, how she does them. Or whether the media enables them or not. This makes ZERO difference to anyone in this country. Why are you even talking about this? What good is going to come of it? ABC will still be number 2 in the nightly news ratings. Do you want us to boycott ABC? Do you want us to write letters to ABC? Or do you just want us to sit in silent judgment of ABC and Palin's shamelessness?
Why write this post at all? What did you think would happen?
If your response is, "Nothing, I just wanted to write something," couldn't you come up with something else to write? Why did you have to write the obvious? Can you tell me something I don't know?

He doesn't like the lady. It's his blog. ABC wasn't fair to Obama in the primaries. Do we really want to get into the psychology and attitudes of our Progressive thought leaders?

The one whose ascendancy had you crying "Danger! Danger! Daaaaanger!" just the other day? What's to like?
ABC wasn't fair to Obama in the primaries.
More to the point, if you look at the sort of questions Gibson was asking in the primaries, and the "deferential" pre-req for granting an interview with Palin, it becomes pretty obvious what sort of "interview" this is going to turn out to be. Essentially an unpaid extended advertisement for a Sarah Palin image based on unchallenged falsehoods.
Do we really want to get into the psychology and attitudes of our Progressive thought leaders?
The whole "wanting to win" thing? And the "challenging GOP lies" thing? And the "objecting to media outlets acting as conduits for transparent GOP lies" thing?

We call it a "musing". All bloggers post musings now and then. I like musings.

Republicans are often effective at getting media outlets to change their tone, and they don't make that happen by starting from the premise that "no one cares." Obviously the GOP base cares, and they care enough about it to mobilize large numbers of people to target GOP-unfriendly media outlets.
And not only do they care, they get results. Case in point: ABC caving to pressure to give a softball "deferential" interview that will do everything possible to package Palin the way her handlers want her packaged. It's free advertising, not journalism, and it's the result of the GOP base caring intensely about such things on the one hand, and on the other hand the
passive "nobody cares" attitude that you're pushing here and that is all too common on the left.
Josh is challenging that attitude of passivity and "nobody cares" helplessness.
