Amy Goodman Arrested at RNC; Reports of Tear-Gassing
Journalist Amy Goodman has been arrested in St. Paul, Minnesota. Watch the video at my Huffington Post article. (I normally wouldn't redirect away from TPM, but I could not post the You-Tube video here.)
Her arrest comes amid accusations of police brutality in St. Paul. I-Witness founder Eileen Clancy was arrested and detained last Saturday by the police in an apparent preemptive arrest. Clancy states she and her team were surrounded in the house they were staying at in St. Paul before they had the chance to video tape any protests.
The police handcuffed Clancy and her team and claimed they were waiting for their search warrant. The officers were armed and at least one police offer was carrying an M-16, Clancy wrote in her blog.
In addition to preemptive arrests, the police are responding aggressively to the presence of protesters. New video is appearing on YouTube of protesters being tear-gassed by the police (video available at the Huffington Post link.)

thank you for letting us all know. I have read nothing about this incident with Amy G in the MSM I will be emailing aswell as making calls tomorrow.
Amy G and Democracy Now are where I go for indepth, truthful, analysis of political events. She is a "jewel" is a sea a deception. Her work on Iraq, torture, Quantanamo, Stop Loss etc., have been exceptional.
Again thank you for the heads up.

It turns out the reason it was so easy for Bush to see into Putin's soul is that they are kindred spirits, especially in their dim view of journalistic freedom. Of all the rights being dismantled by Rove's Republican Regime, it is the manipulation of a free and fair press that most threatens our democracy. Watching the arrest of an independent and increasingly influential critic of the right-wing establishment, Amy Goodman, was jarring in it's resemblance to the recent pictures and stories of censorship coming out of China. It also sends a clear and chilling signal to both the new and the old media: You are now fair game.
When even a single line of the costitution is accepted as optional, the proposition of freedom itself is placed at risk.

Wow, my niece just called me. She lives/works in St. Paul. Apparently, her boss owns the building that was involved in one of the anarchist group raids. He had rented space to them. He told her not to come to work today because the police not only busted down and ransacked the office space he had rented to the anarchist group but they also busted down his store door and made a mess of things there. She says there were children and elderly in that building when the police busted in with guns drawn and arrested about 50 people only to release them later since nothing was found except what the police described as a "fire violation" and then even that has been debunked. Wow.

Pretty shocking. At the same time, talk about the wrong peron to arrest and manhandle! I am sure we will be hearing more about this. As we should.
For all the predictions on the right of blood in the streets and aisles in Denver, it seems that St. Paul is the site of greater disruption. Does anyone remember the predictions of "Operation Chaos"?

outrageous misconduct by the police.
a complex situation with apparently the police attempting to pre-emptively neutralize any filming of the RNC protests by several groups, including the Glass Bead Collective. We will get more information several days from now, but this site may carry info unavailable elsewhere:

An absolute offense by a police state. All the more reason to be sure McCain doesn't win, if we want to preserve First Amendment freedoms of speech and peaceful assembly. This should be a major national scandal and a clear portent of things to come. Any American who believes in our system of government and our Constitution should be outraged and not just a little frightened.

A co-workers friend was almost arrested for taking pictures of the Hilton in downtown Minneapolis FROM THE SIDEWALK! Apparently snipers also had him in their sights.
Our police state at work folks!
All of these police actions were coordinated from the federal government on down through the FBI. Remember those stories of federal agents infiltrating vegan pot lucks? That was just the beginning here in Minneapolis.....

You bet they had Amy in their sights. They want her off the streets during "their" meeting. Remember this is by invitation only. The likes of a liberal media player are bound to be stripped of their credentials. Their voice is not to be heard.
But they may have picked on the wrong person to make their point because Amy Goodman is a veteran standup media player of hostile circumstance. I only hope some rebel MSM player will come to her side and voice the outrage deserved. She must be released at once to do the job she does so well. The job of informing the public of what they seldom hear, the truth.
I can't wait to hear her play on this. And suppoort her we will.

Waiting for the search warrant.
I expect that at some point the current supreme court will rule that if a police officer has a good-faith belief that a warrant might have issued, or might issue in the future, they are authorized to go wherever they damn please and detain anyone they find there.
