What's Obama's problem?
What's stopping Obama from appealing to moderates, independents, as well as some who've traditionally voted for the right, without at the same time alienating so many on the left, such as myself?
Wouldn't this be the kind of "new politics" he championed in the primaries?
Has he even tried it?

How do you know he's not appealing to independents or moderates? I don't put too much credence in polls.
I ask friends, co-workers and other family members who are independents, Republicans and moderates.
You may get more insight doing that.
IMHO, I think there will be a tipping point, after the conventions, and during the debates, toward support of Obama. This will cause neocons to launch lower than the low-road attacks. In the same way Hillary would have coalesced the Republicans, these attacks will bring Democrats together in unprecedented numbers at the polls.
My one concern remains voter fraud. Election fraud. Synonymous with Rove and the neocons.
That's why voter turnout has to be overwhelming--close state races are too vulnerable to fraud. Landslides aren't.

You didn't answer my question, but thanks for what are interesting observations nonetheless.

That would be Bill Clinton-style triangulating.
Obama tried it multiple times before, a more recent example of this flip-flopping is FISA and see how far it got him.
