"Water Breakgate" - Did Sarah Palin's Poor Judgment Endanger her Baby's Life

I am the father of 3 and have been in the employee benefits and healthcare industry for more than 30 years and I find this entire story about Gov. Palin flying for more than 8 hours after her water broke as quite disturbing in terms of the personal judgment it exhibits.

"In fact, a call to Alaska Airlines by Gambling911.com revealed that they will not allow a woman to board a flight whose water has broke.  It is unclear if the airline made an exception for Governor Palin. "

As an insurance professional there is NO way the sirlines would allow this, especially for a Governor unless there were all sorts of legal hold harmless documents signed. If that happened there would be proof they were told.

As far as her Doctor goes I find it incomprehensible that he would tell her it was OK to fly and in fact just for insurance purposes tell her not to and document it. If he did not he is a fool, espeically for a high profile public figure.

Of course we would all want to have the baby at home but... As a father there is no way I would have taken that risk for that long, with amniotic fluiod leaking especially with a baby already diganosed with Downs Syndrome. One complication for Downs babies are heart issues and premies often have lung development issues as well.

Taking the chance of a 4-5 week early birth of a special needs baby on an airplane with no medical and ICU capabilities would be insane, irresponsible and inexplicable.

So what does this say about Sarah Palin and her husband?

Northern Exposure was a cute TV show  and this whole rugged, tough, outdoor Alaska meme is cute but frankly is not relevant to the rest of the US.

Is Sarah Palin ready to make life and death decisions for America when the one decision we can judge is this one?

Apparently, there are some rumors going around that the new addition to the family may have actually been birthed by Palin's 16 year old daughter. This would explain how the trip to Texas was not an issue, and how the flight back on the airplane was actually necessary in order to be in Alaska for the birth. This rumor is based in part on the apparent fact the Palin never appeared to be pregnant, and the reported fact that her 16 year old daughter was out of school for an extended period of time with what was claimed to be mono.

We've posted on that. if those rumors prove to be untrue (I believe they are true) - this still shows an appalling lack of judgment.

Allen, is this on any blog anywhere so I can trace it down? I would love to know more!

Seems to me the Repubs could shut down this discussion easily by proving she gave birth to the baby, or providing photos of the obviously pregnant Gov., but they aren't...Do you suppose the rumors are not true and they are enjoying seeing us blow this into huge ado about nothing to make us look stupid when it is eventually proven that it IS her baby?

The fact that the baby has Down's suggests its hers since the the #1 cause is age of the mother. Do teenagers EVER have Down's babies?

On the judgment front...Flying after your water has broken? Letting your daughter's reputation get trashed in the national media if it IS your baby and you can easily prove it?

This is getting more bizarre by the moment.

All - google "Palin baby rumor" , "bristol palin"

StillIdealistic - apparently 80% of Downs kids are born to mothers

As I point out above the "judgment" is what concerns me and this lady seems pretty sharp and obviously an experienced parent so the eumor takes on more credibility as they had to race home to the birth.

Also she was supposedly 7 months pregnant when she told everyone and the baby came a month early in the story so she would not have looked as pregnant, though at 7 months I've never seen a woman that you did not know was pregnant.

I really hope the child is hers for her daughters sake.

I'm going to assume the rumors are NOT true. She obviously doesn't care about the baby (Down's syndrome or not) now that he's born. She knowingly took medical risks on the plane, and then after he was born went back to work three days later? Please - I have three children myself, and that's not the feminism I'm fighting for: having to go back to work three days after I give birth. I'd prefer someone who's fighting for more and better parental leave.

The state of AK has taken all Palin photos down.

Compare the photo on the right in the sweater (Holiday 2007 shot) with the one on the left side in the red dress from yesterday.

My wife saw the first on and immediately said she was pregnant..

In fact my wife just told me she knew someone in high school who used the "mono" story as well...
