Ultra-Conservative Charles Krauthammer: Palin Pick "Near Suicidal"

avatar

The Washington Post' Charles Krauthammer has spent his life agreeing with anything, good or bad, that major Republicans do or say.

This is why his following take on McCain's Vice-Presidential choice, Sarah Palin, comes as a big shocker:

The Palin selection completely undercuts the argument about Obama's inexperience and readiness to lead...
The McCain campaign is reveling in the fact that Palin is a game changer. But why a game changer when you’ve been gaining? To gratuitously undercut the remarkably successful "Is he ready to lead" line of attack seems near suicidal.

This line of thinking makes me think that perhaps Mccain's team decided he did need a game change. It would be interesting to know when this decision was finalized- after the Gallup daily jumped to an eight point Obama lead?

If you believe the McCain camp, Palin was offered the job at 11am PDT Thursday, at McCain's main Arizona home.

It's best to assume that everything they say is a lie.

My guess is they made a panicky decision once they knew the big event in the stadium was a hit. Probably about the time Obama came strolling out, relaxed and smiling to thunderous applause.

Campaigns don't make decisions based on the Gallup Daily, they look at their internal polling and, often, focus groups. they want to know how many people are undecided in states that are winnable but not won, how much support is soft, how much is hard.

Either McCain made this call from his gut based solely on his own personal response to the convention and, in particular, to Obama's speech, or else their internals were disasterous showing soft support hardening and undecideds making up their minds overwhelmingly in Obama's favor. Either way, it was clearly a panic call.

It's because it wasn't working as well as we thought. ESPECIALLY after the convention the dems were controlling the narrative and the McCain camp is about controlling the MSM narrative. So he went with this hoping to change the game. I don't think he was gaining as much as we would think, his internals must have shown otherwise.

Krypthammer isn't the only one. Steve Benen at www.washingtonmonthly.com had words from several of the big righties and they are not happy. Cafferty called it a game ended.

We have lots of coverage: http://tpzoo.wordpress.com too.

I prefer SourKraut :)

He looks like the Tales from the Crypt guy to me.

I like yours, too. :-)

Just so people know, from what I learned from a relative of Krauthammer. He is severely handicapped and has to walk with crutches - polio I think. BTW, I hate it when rightwingers try to be cute with our side's names and I feel the same when we do word play with their's. We can be bigger than that.

He was injured when diving into a swimming pool.

Do you remember when everyone buried McCain right before the primaries and attended a graceful funeral? The GOP backed Rudy back then.

How's this any different?

Plus, the more people like Kraut disagree, the more it reinforces the Twin Mavericks narrative.

Lalo35adm: She's profoundly unfit. "Maverick" McCain's recklessness just killed "Goose" his wingman..., I mean, campaign.

Well, those were the same pundits who proclaimed Sen. Obama was "done". That, however, was months before anyone started, you know, voting. I certainly don't want her, or McMaverick anywhere near the reins of power in Washington.

Lalo's got the hots for Betty Beehive Bear Hunter.

The VOTEMASTER gave a really good plausible analysis here:

It's all about those electoral votes!
