The Unspoken Truth About Drilling
The Obama campaign's response to the Offshore Drilling debate has been nothing short of anemic. The sad reality is that it is physically impossible to drill anywhere due to a lack of oil rigs. The NYTimes published an article on 6/19/2008 describing this problem. the existing Drill ships are booked solid for the next five years. I've never heard the Obama campaign explain or highlight this fact.
Why?

Lack of rigs is a point that Matt Simmons makes over and over, but standing up on stage and saying America can't do something is an invitation for a misquote.

Yep. "My friends, the Democrats want to surrender in the energy war as well. We can't drill? My friends, I say we can do anything we put our minds to, my friends."

That is an excelent reason to allow it. You take the issue off the table, but nothing changes.

Yes and no. What (I think) the Reps really want is to serve their corporate donors by handing out largesse in the form of rights to ANWR and the OCS. They see the opportunity slipping away so they're staging stunts, screaming about drilling and in general holding their breath until they get what they want.

My point is why aren't we calling them on the "drill today and our problems will go away" crap?
More of our money is going to Asian economies where most of the rig building is taking place.
