The Longest Faces In the Room...

avatar

Sen. Claire McCaskill was on point when she told Keith Olbermann that the longest faces in the room tonight belonged to the mainstream media who were disappointed that their continued insistence on Democratic Party disunity had lost its steam.  She accurately proclaimed that the Democrats are unified.

Also tonight, Bill Clinton got his legacy back on track.  He was outstanding with his talking points.  John Kerry's speech which the egotistical media somehow felt was less appealing than their off target yakking, was also outstanding. I watched it on C-Span.

And not to my surprise, Chuck Todd was way off target in thinking that we who were watching and listening at home would give a bucket of spit for his opinion that Joe Biden somehow flubbed his zingers.  Joe Biden did just fine.  All the speeches were impressive and inspiring and judged on the basis of their content rather than some juvenile-type critique by a reporter.

The Democrats will do just fine in November and a President Barack Obama and his team were be as successful in returning this country to prosperity as was President Clinton and his team.

I think Claire Rocks!

Biden was terrific. The MSM is so out of touch with 'real America'.

Joe and Beau Biden made me cry. And I don't cry at stuff like convention speeches.

The punditry live in an alternate universe.

The media must be getting well paid to pursue their storylines. It's hard to believe that anyone is as stupid as they appear to be.

I agree the talking heads have their heads up their rear ends. But there is a good explanation for the disconnect: they are not in the news business, they are in the entertainment business. As sad as that is for us as a society part of me thinks that maybe, just maybe it's not all bad in the big picture. See my post on the subject:

I also thought Kerry's speech was outstanding watching it on C-SPAN. I had no idea the cable news channels hadn't showed it.

How about Kerry's line ( after having listed all of McCain's recent flip-flops) of "talk about being for it before you were against it". LMAO!

avatar

That was a great line!

I also thought that John Kerry got personal satisfaction (you could see it in his face)from heaping praise on Barack Obama's uncle who was asked to stand. A WWII liberator, Barack's uncle is also a White man. The moment was priceless. Kerry seem to say hey America while Barack is an African-American, he is also a White American. MSNBC didn't even cut to the visual as he was being introduced, but kept the camera on Kerry. Again, I had to see it on C-Span.

It's positively shameful that the cable yakkers cut away from Kerry's killer speech. I am told that CNN eventually showed some of it, though they interrupted him with a commercial break.

avatar

Well, he lost four years ago and they obviously don't think he had anything 'to say'.

Punters.

Wow... imagine how many people did not get to hear Kerry? Makes me want to print it out and hand it out to people.

I have heard a few clips from msnbc and I guess if you are getting paid to 'try' to be interesting and involve yourself in what is going on in some way to 'earn your pay' or 'present yourself as having value in the situation' you end up looking like these MSM nutjobs.

I watch the actual convention on CSpan and to all who don't have it, you can watch in online... all three channels.

I am guessing that a copy of Kerry's speech went out and the cutaway was deliberate.

The NBC channels including MSNBC ruined the Olympics with their awful "coverage". More talking heads than athletes performing.
And now they are doing it again with the "coverage" of the convention.
CSPAN all the way!

It's worth pointing out that, next to CSPAN, PBS has been providing the most yak-free convention coverage.

The political and historical roundtables they've hosted have brought a fair amount of interesting analysis, with relatively little of the media circle jerking we've been seeing the cable newsheads indulging in.

I've been frustrated with PBS and NPR on a number of occassions these past 8 years, but this time I think they got it right.

Did anyone watch CSM (ret) Michele Jones' speech? Anyone.

Do you even know who she is?

It was about as powerful and succint a case that could be made on the issues she was addressing from about the most unimpeachable source imaginable.

Get her on the trail with Obama and for god sakes, make sure she is working in the white House come January.

I watched it. Good speech, I thought. Better than Bayh's.

I'd love to see her debate go toe to toe with douchebag like Guliani. Sergeant major would rip him a new one.

avatar

I straightened up in my seat when she was talking, squared my shoulders and tucked my chin. I got my mind right on who to vote for.

avatar

I caught the tail end of her speech on C-Span and I liked what I heard. Go Army!

I was surprised to see the CNN Speech Scorecards of Michelle, Hillary, Bill and Joe as actually very very good. Not to mention a majority of the people who voted on them gave good scores.

Despite my utter dislike for CNN, I really have to hand it to them for being honest here and delivering the truth. They were all fantastic.

avatar

CNN missed on John Kerry. He gave a super speech! CNN has become FOX-light.

avatar

Screw the MSM! Watch C-Span and hear what's going on, not the commentators' version of what's going on.

avatar

And C-Span is doing a repeat of the speeches the next morning. Saw Kerry's again. Then on MSNBC later, they were trying to push the idea that the move to Invesco was a big mistake. They almost looked startled when Dems like Gov, Napolitano wouldn't bite

Speaking of shameless media manipulation here's a plug for my cousin Jeff's book. You can download it for free below. Jeff says he'd like to go viral but he'll be happy if it gets the sniffles. He's had more downloads than the Karma Sutra!

It takes place in the near future and centers around media coverage of the first manned mission to Mars.

Here's a review from the site:

"Kind of like Carl Hiaasen, Vonnegut, and even Dr. Strangelove. It's an incredibly fast paced page turner. I read it in about 7 hours and couldn't get enough. I laughed, I cried, I chewed off all my nails. LOL

I'd like to send copies to all our media stars, producers and publishers of the 24 hour news cycle to shame them."
