Place Bets: Obama Veep Pick by Date, Time
What date and time (you must include time zone) will Obama's text message announcing his Veep pick go out?
I'll guess Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Worst pick has to bankroll Obama final ad buy.

First day of convention to better control the initial coverage. I'll say 9am on the 25th.

Obama is in Virginia later in the week - I think this whole week was sort of a set-up to keep the press talking about his VP. He was in New Mexico today, though Richardson has long fallen off the contender list. Then on Thursday I believe he is in Virginia. I wonder if he is telling the finalists personally that they are not going to be chosen.
I think the final decision was between Kaine and Biden.
With Obama saying he'll release it via text message, twitter and email, he really keeps the MSM guessing because they can't look at who is traveling where in scoop his selection. And it could really drop at any time.
The one drawback of announcing it at the convention is that there is no time for those initially against the selection to warm to it. Every reaction will be there and in the raw.

Obama's schedule for the week:
Monday: Two events in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Then onto Florida.
Tuesday: Florida (Orlando) in the morning. Raleigh, North Carolina in the evening
Wednesday: Martinsville, Virginia town hall with Mark Warner
Thursday: Richmond, Virginia
Friday: Unknown
I don't think he's picking Warner, and I don't think his Richmond stop is to deliver good news to Kaine.
Marc Ambinder says that glaring Friday 'Unknown' is a tenatively scheduled return to Chicago on Thursday night. I think Obama will declare his VP either in Springfield or from his Chicago headquarters on Thursday evening -- I'll put my time at an evening event, 7:30pm EST, but I think it could definitely happen earlier in the day.
