Only In America...

Only in America...

Obama is an amazing candidate. There are so many reasons to vote for him that listing them would take up way more space than I should take up, and besides, you know them all already.

McCain is a senile old fool that just looks more ridiculous every day. The only reason he is the nominee is because the Republican brand is so damaged that he is their ONLY chance to win. The mere fact that he can be taken seriously is an outrage.

Biden has credentials up the wazoo...love him or hate him, he could step in in a heartbeat and do the job.

Palin is a lightweight. PC be damned, if she didn't have a va-jay-jay and a beautiful face we STILL wouldn't know who she is, because no rational person would pick a running mate with her resume w/o getting laughed off the political stage (see senile old fool above.) "Uh, exactly what is it a VP does?" The fact that she doesn't realize she is not ready to be President is reason enough to doubt her intelligence.

And yet here we sit,  40 something % on one side, 40 something % on the other (and many of those are only on this side beacause they are so ill informed that they think Obama has a $4 million house and may be a Muslim) and roughly 15% give or take of people who care so little that they haven't even been paying attention yet will be making the decision of who will be our next President.

And all the while, the msm, the institution that is supposed to be shining the light of truth on the situation so we can make educated decisions when we vote, sits back and stirs the pot for the sake of ratings.

This sounds more like a late night comedy sketch than the real life political landscape. I would be laughing except that my grandchilren's future is no laughing matter.

It would probably be better for my mental health if I just turned off the computer and the T.V. and went about my life. I could enjoy my grandchildren, work in my garden, decorate my house, cook, clean and care for my family's well being. I could drink iced tea and visit with friends, read a celeb rag mag, get a pedicure, spend a little money on things I don't need.

So, why don't I?

Well, I'm still idealistic. I still believe that evidence to the contrary, if people just realize what is at stake, if they think about what they are doing to our country's future, if they listen with an open mind, if they quit drinking the damn kool aid, they might make an informed choice. So, I have to keep trying. I have to stay informed, I have to hope that my voice might help somehow.

In the meantime I'm making myself frickin' crazy...How about you?

Yeah, man (or woman)...I've never had so much fear over a politician gaining an appointed office as do of John McCain being elected.

It's unfortunate that "spin" plays such a huge role in such important circumstances. If it weren't for spin, the record speaks for itself. Obama has been on the right side of the right issues, while McCain leaves much to be desired. In his speech, Clinton said that Obama is on the right side of truth. I cling to that notion when I start to feel like things are turning in McCains favor. It's an important notion, I just hope it comes through.

You're outrage, frustration, is warranted.

I respect your opinion and your posts. I also want to point out that if you are still wondering why this is happening in this way, you might want to consider this:

- American system is intentionally designed to make natonal compromise difficult (check Founding Fathers for evidence - checks and balances)

- American system hasn't changed in the last few hundred years. It's always run in the same way it's running now. And it gave us a great country.

Could it be that there is something not exactly right with the statements in the beginning of your post? Again, I write this with respect.

The last sentence is NO. Their is nothing wrong with his post. It's like if you WATCH him speak you HEAR him answer the questions you HEAR his policies and beliefs in the American people and you think *WHY ISN'T EVERYONE SUPPORTING THIS MAN* Then you hear people say he is muslim, he is a socialist, and Rev. Wright. Those are three of the most MIS INFORMED things I have ever heard. It frustrates me that people can be so ill informed.

Thanks for your input Lalo. We disagree, but I appreciate your being civil about it! No, I don't think there was anything incorrect in my first 2 sentences, or I wouldn't have written them. But again, your respectfulness in bringing what you perceive to be my inaccuracies to my attention, is appreciated.

Try substituting a white, southern state gentleman with all Obama's other attributes, and given how badly the Repbublican brand is damaged and tell me the polls would look like this..

What I meant was simply this: if you refuse to accept that the other half of the country cares as much as you do, but simply sees things differently, you will always come the conclusion you came to. They must be idiots. There is no other way to explain a divided country.

It's unbelievable how many ignorant people there are in America. It's almost troubling. If McCain wins I am going to France. At least the french voted the right person into the office.

Wow, good to know. If you make your reservation now, you could save a bundle.

No need, I will bet the house we win this one. For ONCE I will give the american people the benefit of the doubt.

Your problem has nothing to do with the election. You simply live in the wrong country, full of ignorant people. You should really consider consider a country of smart people, instead.

Hey Still!

Another on the point and aware post.

As for your last sentence, crazy is as crazy does!

SO, which is sane and which is truly insane (if you know the facts and truly care about your country and IF you have an IQ higher than dirt with better common sense than W.s) voting for McCain or Obama?

(But, if McCain does win, that will makes us not only crazy but put us and America in mortal danger.)

Rec'd!

I really want a McCain supporter to tell me why McCain is a better pick WITHOUT falsities or misleading comments about Barack Obama. I would listen with open ears to try and understand where they are coming from because frankly, I just don't get it.

LOL, you're on the wrong blog then. I haven't seen a single McCain supporter here.

Personally, I think this should be a line of attack from Obama surrogates: "Why is that John McCain can't talk about his own policies, just Barack Obama's? Doesn't he have any of his own policies to discuss?"

Rec'd. The repulicans and the McCain camp will do everything and anything to win this election.

Are we willing to do what it takes to win? I am not saying we should do 'anything and everything'. But are we willing to each of us do something?

It is wise to keep somewhat politically informed but I think we can also pay attention to what we are accomplishing and when our attention to the election etc. becomes a deficit for us as individuals and our ability to actually contribute becomes challenged and unplug.

I would rather focus on what a great president Senator Obama will be. I would rather focus on how so many people are hopeful and believing in our country and it's potential to be better than ever. I would rather focus on how we can all help Senator Obama win this election than on McCain's problems and failings.

Fear of Change and Fear of the Unknown meet Desire for Change, Desire for Fairness/Justice, and Desire to believe that our country can be better than it has ever been. It does have a darkness and light feel to it. At some point we must transcend polarizing the paradoxes and transcend and include them. Senator Obama knows how to do this.

I know I got distracted by the Palin nomination but now I just don't care why he nominated her or how much experience she has blah, blah, blah. I want to help Senator Obama win and I want to focus on the much needed leadership he will bring ot our country.

I appreciate completely how you feel about the stakes of this election and the personal qualities of both candidates. I, too, would like to tune it out and go do something else because sometimes I think it's driving me insane. I know my friends and family are tired of my updates, which I do try to keep to a minimum. I did want to say this. I have at least two family members who are violently conservative and so we don't talk about the election, but sometimes we do "touch" on topics of our beliefs. What breaks my heart is how polarized we are from one another. It's like we don't even speak the same language and we definitely don't see the world in the same terms. The most that my older brother is ever willing to say is that Bush has made "some mistakes." Some mistakes. That just kills me. And yet I know my brother is a good man and a firm Christian. The thing I like most about Obama is that he's trying so hard to tell us we have to quit being so divided if we're going to get things done. Maybe in the heat of battle that's not a message that any of us want to hear, but I'm convinced that in the long run it's the only way to win the kind of battle for hearts and minds it will take to put our guy in the White House. So I try every day to stay positive, bolster our positions, not attack others, keep the dialogue going, send donations when I can. My great respect to all who come here and post because it's like a community and I need that. Thanks.

Someone who I greatly respect for professional reasons and very rarely talk about personal matters told me a few months ago that he was a libertarian conservative. We have been discussing policy positions via email ever since and I must say that it's incredibly difficult to stay civil. I also learned that staying on just one partisan site restricts me from making my own opinion, after looking at both sides of the coin. And I suddenly realized that people are not stupid. Like your brother, they care. And like me and probably you, some of them are taking things very personally.

Lalo, I'm gonna risk the title of concern troll here and say that what concerns me most about our country is that folks seem ignorant of the foundations of our nation and the things that keep us free.

Most folks would say that the Declaration of Independence is our founding document and our nation was created in 1776. Our own Senators and Representatives (like McCain) treat the Constitution as an inconvenience to be worked around.

Too many people seem willing to kill and die for the flag, rather than for the system it represents. And far too many people perpetuate this whole 'Christian nation' myth in total disregard for the founders themselves who unanimously ratified a treaty stating explicitly that it is not.

So while I acknowlege the sincere loyalty of the opposition to our nation, loyalty misplaced for the wrong reasons and to the wrong principles is very troublesome.
