I tried. (I also wanted to edit "queations to questions!) I have an old laptop -- v-e-r-y slow when it works at all, but it eventually got my nominees in. How about you?
Thanks for the interest.

1. Mitt Romney, General Petreaus --> the first is as out of touch as McCain; the general proves that McCain wants war without end.
2. Mitt Romney, General Petraus
3. Dick Cheney, Joe Lieberman, Paris Hilton, or Hillary Clinton.

This will be a tricky pick. McCain is going to name his pick after a solid week of Dem coverage. He might be "on tilt" if you will.
I'm thinking Pawlenty right now, but also have a sneaky suspicion it could be Huckabee. I don't think Huck would any part of the gutter tactics though, so there would likely have to be a change within the McCain campaign. Huck would then rally the Evangelical ground game that McCain is desperately going to need.
Pawlenty makes the most sense, a Governor from a swingstate, humble roots, just recently cut off his mullet.

I'm trying to get s sense of what you think would matter. Do you really think that Pawlenty would be a good choice? My thought is that if he brings in someone as young as Obama it deflates his argument that Obama is too young and inexperienced.

I WANT McCain to pick Romney.
Slick Willie Womney wan for pwesident, but then he lost to Jawn McCain.
In all seriousness, I think McCain would probably be best off with Pawlenty. But seeing as MN is again looking to be out of reach for McCain, it might prove a futile effort.

Mitt will take the seven kitchen tables to new heights. And John (in honor of Biden, I'm using his first name) and him don't get along. But the base wants him (and then again he's a Mormon so they don't want him). So I John will pick Mitt, and I will be happy.
Pawlenty makes some sense but there is no way he can be said he is ready from day one to take over the CIC role (as if this was the one responsibility for the president). His biggest problem is that he is BORING. Not that this should disqualified someone, but now that you've got Biden to go up against you need someone with a bit of personality and who can go toe to toe.
Rudy would be so sweet. First cross dressing VP.

I've given up trying to predict the actions of certain segments of the Republican party. The choices that would make the most sense to me, and be the most formidable on the ticket, are the ones with no chance in hell.
Instead they float people like Romney and Patreaus.
Patreaus is outside the realm of possibility, since I doubt he'd retire just to run with McCain in '08. I HOPE he goes with Fiorina, but she's about as likely as Patreaus. A Romney is just as good though, and more likely.
I think McCain would do best to pick a young unknown with a solid history. I think he'll end up with a regular good ol' GOP boy who put in enough favors to get the pat on the back.

Who would i love him to pick?
Condi, George W, Cheney, Petraus, Huckabee, Rudi, Jeb,

I want him to pick Rudy or Lieberman. That would be awesome.
Patraeus isn't going to happen. I think McCain was only throwing his name out to get the press's attention and make people think he and Patraeus are best buddies.
What ever happened to Rob Portman? Since Romney's getting increasingly problematic and Pawlenty could conceivably grow his mullet back at any time, it seems like he might be worth another look . . .

Why do you say Romney's getting increasingly problematic?
August 23, 2008 9:36 PM | Reply | Permalink
Up to now, the CW has been that Romney would give McCain a boost on the issue of the economy. The "seven houses/out of touch" meme complicates that because one of the outcomes of Romney's successes in that arena has been the accumulation of enormous wealth.
The fact that the McCain campaign and its surrogate Ron Fournier are arguing now that picking Biden reveals Obama's weakness and lack of confidence on foreign policy, McCain has to expect that picking Romney to shore up his economic credentials will be discussed in a similar light.
The McCain campaign is claiming that Biden's previous criticisms of Obama during the primaries are damning. Those criticisms pale in comparison to what Romney has had to say about McCain. They've painted themselves into a corner.
Doesn't mean McCain won't still pick Romney and try to spin the hypocrisy. But this is why I think picking him has become a more problematic proposition.

1.I would LOVE for him to pick LIEberman. That would shatter his chances. I would also like Romney because the houses thing can go on until election with that pic (the narrative that is).
2.I believe the pick would be either Pawlenty or Romney.
3.Bill Gates.

I'll happily take either Romney or Pawlenty.
Romney's got about two weeks' worth of 30-second McCain-bashing soundbites to use.
Pawlenty's sufficiently unpopular in Minnesota that he might actually HELP Obama there.
And, for extra fun, either one gets ripped to shreds by Biden in a VP debate.

It occurs to me that there is a bit of footage of McCain dissing Romney as well. In many ways that is even more damning to show; how could he choose a person he so obviously finds incompetent? Poor judgement! The nasty one where McCain was laughing derisively and said that he'd give Romney one thing: he's the candidate of change, ha ha ha!
