McCain's Trojan Woman
So John McCain has picked a woman to be his running mate. Good for him. We need a woman in the White House. Doesn't matter what her policy positions are, doesn't matter that she's served less than two years in office, doesn't matter that McCain is 72 years old and could very well keel over during his first term, making her the leader of the Free World. Sarah Palin is a woman, and that's all that matters. That's change. The McCain campaign and the Republicans hope that Hillary's supporters will flock to the Republican side. Never mind that Sarah Palin represents everything Hillary, Obama and Biden have fought against over the years. Sarah Palin is a woman, and for some women that will be good enough. For smarter women, it will be an insult, but McCain is banking on the possibility that most women are too short-sighted to see past Sarah Palin's gender.
Sarah Palin is a woman. An inexperienced, anti-choice, gun-toting, completely unknown woman. And picking her is a good example of the kind of choices John McCain would offer if he were elected.

Sorry I missed this earlier, but that's about the size of it.

I agree.
The problem isn't so much Palin as what her selection says about McCain's judgement.
You can tell that many Republicans are scratching their heads too.

I think McCain is employing the Quayle strategy:
Pick a VP so obvously unqualified that you look good by comparison.

Palin is proof that McCain cynically puts his country last.
