McCain pimps his wife...
This man really is a misogynist pig. Not only does he offer up his wife to a crowd of drunken bikers, but he does it in front of his daughter. Think about that next time he talks about keeping America safe from terrorists. Can he keep the women who get harassed/raped at Sturgis safe when things get out of hand?
What's worse, I think, was that he was reading from prepared remarks! This wasn't some off the cuff joke he offered. He trying to tell a joke someone else wrote, and not even doing it well. Someone in his campaign actually thought misogyny is a good angle for a Presidential candidate to play up. Stay classy, McShame.

I thought the Sturgis gig might be a good photo op for McLame. Lots of bikers, the salute to veterans angle, etc. But when he wished his wife could be part of a topless beauty pageant, I wondered how all of that would play with the conservative christian folks. Can you imagine George W or Mitt Romney offering up their wives for such an event? They actually have too much respect for their spouses.

Have a friend who is in Sturgis right now. He said not many people showed up for McCain's gig. What the hell was he thinking going there of all places? Jesus, what an asshole. That place is like a Hell's Angels, Harley, loser, load out event. And, I ride. But you wouldn't catch me dead there.

I'm on my 11th bike in 35 years, one of which was a new Harley. Sturgis is a sex, drugs, & rock 'n roll scene where you don't wanna be the first to pass out. It just gives the rest of them something to piss on. That's the gang at the Buffalo Chip, not the guys from Wild Hogs. Not even the Wild Hogs bad guys.

Do leather clad bikers really appeal to middle America? I would think the family types and the religious types would frown upon bikers. Has a sleazy druggy kind of vibe. Not sure what McJerk was thinking: "The World might love Obama, but the menacing biker gang that just cut you off, they're voting for me!"

The Family Values vote should be offended, and probably would be if they ever read about this incident.
McCain's behavior is repugnant.
Obama, on the other hand, presents a much better Family Man picture. I think his carpet-bombing of the Celebrity mags you find on checkout counters is a huge success. Barack and Michelle plus two adorable daughters.

Any PUMA-types still think McCain is the better candidate for women's rights and equality?
Remember back during the 2000 campaign when Bush and Cheney talked about bringing some dignity back to the office of President after the Clinton scandal filled years? They were obviously full of shit but the concept is a good one. Even more so after 8 years of their administration denigrating the dignity of the office even further.
Here's a reasonable contrast:
Obama looking dignified and presidential in front of hundreds of thousands of our European allies waving American flags OR McCain looking sleazy pimping his wife in front of hundreds of bikers and bimbos wearing American flag bikinis.
Take your pick America.

My first glance read was "McCain Pumps his wife"
Everyone needs a relief valve. Perhaps Cindy can score some crystal meth and do the topless banana drive by suck off. That would win some votes from the chopper crowd. And Johnny Mac can tell his "Woman ecstatic after being raped by an Ape" joke.
Born to be wild baby.

Don't fool yourselves. This resonates with a certain segment of the electorate that McCain must have solid support from. Remember it wasn't too long ago that conservatives were so disgusted with McCain's nomination they said they wouldn't vote for him or they'd stay home.
Anybody who is offended (myself included) weren't planning to vote for the guy anyway.

Has there been any comment from the Focus on the Family/Evangelical wing of the GOP? Or are they pretending this never happened. It's not even so much as McCain offered his wife into the "pageant" because he obviously didn't know what it really was, however just the fact that he was at an event that holds such displays.
Over on HuffPo yesterday there was an amusing story about The McCains shopping for t-shirts while in Sturgis, looking straight at the merchandise, buying four shirts from the closest rack and all the while obviously making sure not to look at another customer who was wearing a tiny bikini and leather chaps.

Why the assumption he didn't know what it was? Contrary to popular belief he's no fool. This sort of thing plays to the joe-blow 'regular guy' crowd and he knows it.

In response to a piece on First Read about Michelle Obama's hosting a series of roundtable discussions today,

a commenter named "Kris" wrote this:
"The contrast is too much to not bring up:
One candidate's wife speaking on bread-and-butter issues to veterans' families and not attacking an opponent. The other candidate offering up his wife as the butt of sexist jokes in front of bikers."
Unforgiving Clinton supporters, PUMAs --
Try to picture Obama standing at that biker rally and saying the things about Michelle that McCain said about Cindy. You can't, because he wouldn't. So which candidate is it that you intend to vote for? Which one do you want to have holding the future of women's rights in his hand when it's time to appoint Supreme Court justices?
