McCain Camp Pushes Back Hard over Historian's Critiques
Here's something I haven't seen in a while...
Politico published a well-written article titled Scholars Question Palin's Credentials. In it, they quote four different presidential historians, who all basically agree that Palin is the least qualified VP candidate in modern history.
McCain camp's reaction? Force Politico to publish an "update" that reads:How unbelievable. First that they feel the need to push back this hard (okay, maybe I can understand that), but put the shoe on the other foot....what if the Obama camp insisted that every time AP takes a turn on the tire swing that a disclaimer be added citing Fournier's desire to work for the McCain camp?
After reading this article, the McCain campaign issued the following statement: "The authors quote four scholars attacking Gov. Palin's fitness for the office of Vice President. Among them, David Kennedy is a maxed out Obama donor, Joel Goldstein is also an Obama donor, and Doris Kearns Goodwin has donated exclusively to Democrats this cycle. Finally, Matthew Dallek is a former speech writer for Dick Gephardt. This is not a story about scholars questioning Governor Palin's credentials so much as partisan Democrats who would find a reason to disqualify or discount any nominee put forward by Senator McCain."
Bunch of jilted whiners.

Well those sources do seem biased. I wonder if Politico could have reached out to right leaning folks - maybe they didn't want to comment.
Obama should do the same thing with the AP - "Ron Fournier, who the McCain camp offered a job to in 2007..."

Better to claim bias than argue on the merits of the case (what there is of it), I guess.
Is there a more qualified VP candidate in modern history? Should we ask her how to spell potato?

As someone who has a degree in history, I would say from my experience that the vast majority of them could be classified as moderate Liberals.
What I would say to the McCain camp, find me four scholars willing to go on the record to refute these four.

Yes, the academic community is majority liberal and democratic party voters and that's not at all surprising so it is equally not surprising that academics of all stripes, from climate scientists to historians will likely break in favor of dems.
So, what can the GOP do- say everything coming from the academy is biased?
Well that's exactly what they are trying here.
