Mark Penn's Blank Tapes
So Sam Stein at Huffington Post checked on those tapes Joshua Green brings up in his piece on the Clinton Catastrophe.
And takes the air out of them too.
Asked about "the tapes" a former Clinton aide who had direct knowledge of the footage, deflated all the drama from the room.

Another well-written article that confirms Penn was mostly right. As one example, that Hillary needed a spokesman that was TV friendly. The advisor who presciently wrote they should skip Iowa, that it could bankrupt them. (Not the $15 million predicted). That Obama needed to be attacked on his Senate record. And his cultural fibs. "I speak Indonesian fluently! I speak with a Kansas accent!"
The problem is most people approach all this stuff with "who would I most like to have a beer with". Mark Penn may be something like Mr. Toad, but his political acumen is dead on. You might have to humanize it a bit, but you can't just wish it away.
Oh, and the article wishes away Penn's other comment, that Obama can't be elected. The jury's out on that one, and it's looking tough already mid-August, even running against an aging fumbler.

Most people who can actually read polls or who have studied history think he looks just fine, thanks.

I predict no diaries to be written about the revelation that Clinton chose to REJECT Penn's advice:

Oh good heavens, no. Wicked Witch of the West shows kind behavior? Cognitive Dissonance.

Which part did she fail to follow? Penn said they would have to keep it hidden if they did it. They just didn't want to have their fingerprints on it.
