It's Not Your Oil
The Dems including Barack Obama are not hitting the right talking point.
They could easily pop the RNC's demagogic balloon about drilling by shouting from the mountain tops that IT'S NOT OUR OIL
Any oil drilled domestically is owned by the oil companies and it is sold on the global commodities market. The US only possesses 3% of the world's oil supply. Do the math. We do nothing to protect our "own" oil. but folks don't understand it.
Republicans rely on public ignorance. We can use one simple sentence to wake people up to this Hoax..

Obama's playing this issue as a hotage.
He's willing to give the GOP this one. In return, he seems to want a concession from them. We know how the rest plays out.
IF (and it's a big "if") Obama does actually get a concession out of the GOP for this, it better be a big one. Something like permanent ANWR protection. Something aong those lines.

Why are you liberals so against drilling for more oil? It is really bizarre!

Because it's stupid. The answer isn't more oil, it's less oil. Find alteratives.

It's not "the liberals", it's pretty much everybody along the coastlines who's local economies depend on turism and, that oil companies who really don't want to invest billions to build new refining capacity or drill deep high tech wells. An investment in a new refinery takes somewhere between 30 to 50 years to pay for itself and the oil companies long ago decided to not increase capacity due to the only 3% of world reserves left here and fact that none of it is easily recovered due to its depth and other geological and geochemical obsticles that make it uneconomical to bring to the surface. Why do you think they aren't drilling in the gulf leases they already have which cover about 80% of the gulf?
The oil companies haven't tried to build a refinery for what, 30 years now? If they were to build new refineries and drill up and down our coasts they would go broke before gas prices where high enough to support it from a business perspective.
Drilling - it's election year bullshit. Go play with your tire guage.

Of course this doesn't even begin to take into account the "Deep Water Royalty Relief Act adopted in November 1995, a year after Republicans won control of Congress" that, at today's prices is estimated by the GAO, is being charged taxpayers at a $50 billion and growing rate.
So, do you REALLY want more drilling when, wthout the relief, the numbers don't work for the oil companies.
Yah, tax and spend "liberals" ---- right!
You, demonstrate the resulting product of cereal box education.
