Frustrated by Obama's responses to Attack Ads? Don't be.

I can't believe that so many educated politicos are frustrated with the way the Obama campaign is addressing the repeated desperate attacks by the McCain campaign. First, it's DNC policy (as stated by Schumer recently on the Daily Show) to ALWAYS respond to a Repug attack ad within 24 hours. That's the DNC. In addition to that, the Obama campaign responds through various spokespersons as these red herrings are floated daily. This election MUST BE about the critical issues facing our nation and world at this time -- NOT about Paris or Britney or tire gauges or any of that nonsense designed only to distract. As such, it appears to me that Obama is playing it exactly right. Let others answer the nonsensical charges while the candidate stays on the issues. This keeps him above the fray and keeps the issues (that McCain and his pals in the MSM REALLY don't want to engage) in the news, in spite of their best(?) efforts to distract us.
Far from being a cause of frustration for me, the way Barack has been handling himself through all of this nonsense reminds me every day of why i support his candidacy.

First time I have seen 14 recommends and no comments. I guess we have nothing to add. Never thought I would see that happen. Great points.

go read Bob Herbert's column on the NY Times op-ed page

in a primarily black district, where a balck candidate was running a smear campaign against a white candidate, the white candidate won 80% to 20%

those old smear campaigns ain't what they used to be

ain't what they used to be

ain't what they used to be

gonna be an UGLY election, then we get rid of the ugly

bye bye, john mcsame

Common sense at last! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Barack doesn't need to counterattack - he needs to attack! There are very legitimate attacks to be made, and nobody else is going to make them. Most voters simply will not realize how dishonest (and dangerous) McCain is unless someone forcefully points it out. Otherwise people will say, "both of these guys are pretty decent as far as politicians go...heads or tails...ok the white guy."

I know! It's unbelievable! People need to relax! Obama knows what he's doing. sure, maybe it's frustrating to take insults-by-proxy from McCain but we're not the ones Obama needs to win over here.

It's kind of interesting how people are sure Obama would be a fantastic president, but don't trust his judgment at all when it comes to politics. He obviously knows what he's doing.

(On the other hand, it was pretty obvious that Kerry didn't know what he was doing in 2004, so we shouldn't totally ignore perceived flaws, but so far it does appear that Obama knows what he's doing)

.... and everyone thought how could America vote in Reagan, then Bush I, then Bush II.

Besides McCain, what about The Clintons and their tepid support for Obama, post two months since the last primaries in June. Are they undermining Obama and the Democrats in November if they dont get their way.....the rhetorically answer is yes but first this.....the MSM continues to give McCain a free pass, no matter how BIG and DISORTED McCain’s LIES are. Fox News ran the Rev Wright YouTube 24/7. Recent polling asked the question by implying, Obama would be the greater "risk" and often citing other recent polls to prove that it’s Obama who needs to make more of an effort, rather than the other way around of a misguided public. Obama NEEDS to go after the MSM, as he should with McCain. Obama can’t even go to Hawaii on his vacation, without the Republicans harassing him, along with the media quoting Republican talking points. The MSM allows McCain to distort Obama’s energy policy by trivializing it down to a tire gauge and dismissing Obama’s message of ‘Change’ by dismissing the messenger as some sort of ego inflated cultish messiah complex candidate...

….then, there is Hillary. The Clintons need to be ashamed of their own efforts (intended or not) to undermine Barack Obama and the Democratic Party....and the media's attempt to play up what remains of Hillary’s vanquished candidacy. The mainstream media's slant was/and continues to be in Hillary's favor, and since her leaving, switched over to McCain. The focus continues to be on the smaller number of Hillary supporters and the self-described group known as PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) - her supporters aren’t screaming out Obama's middle name for nothing. Barack Obama won the Democratic Nomination fair and square - both he and Hillary knew the rules of the game going in....The shrill voices insisting on a roll call in Denver and putting Hillary's name in nomination could have been shut down once and for all by Hillary herself and her husband, Pres Clinton, after the last primary back in June. The fact she hasn’t done that only points to a couple of things the MSM continue to FAIL in reporting – The Clintons’ power grab isn’t over. They basically black-mailed the Obama Campaign into giving them BOTH more prominence at the Convention. And Hillary, herself, continues to fantasize about her own presidential aspirations through her minions and the alleged 18 million voters.

Hillary is a Senator from New York, not the Democratic Nominee. If one needs a catharsis, there are professionals out there, for that very need - they're called therapists and psychologists, not delegates. The Denver Convention isn't about one huge angry management session, it's a presidential nomination process (based on the principles spelled out in the Constitution of the United States).

McCain is a sprinter - Obama is a marathoner. When McCain falls down, he will not be able to get back up. He cannot sustain this pace.

Most folks don't tune in to presidential elections until sometime after Labor Day. Which is 3 weeks away. Obama, Plouffe and Axelrod can read a calendar, too. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.

Exactly. Most of a campaign's punches (counterpunches) get just one go around. They can unload now or wait until most of the undecides are engaged.
