Evan Bayh Surprises??

Now, I wasn't completely against Bayh in the past, but wow, I'm surprised he went so hard against Joe.

Whoo! That's one highly motivated surrogate. I'd say *he* certainly believes he has a shot at the veep slot.

I don't consider Bayh's words to have been so hard here. Lieberman should have been eviscerated.

Bayh also had a failure of judgment on Iraq. But Bayh particularly disgraced himself by charging to lead Iraq War cheer leading committees.

Bayh has only been floated around because Obama has been forced to play games with Hilliary. Obama will entertain Bayh for a little longer or for as long he needs to keep Hilliary's toxic crew neutralized.

If he ultimately chooses Bayh, it means he did a deal with Hilliary. That bothers me. But if Barack feels he can manage it, then more power to him.

Bayh is likely much more controllable than Sen. Clinton would be, and Bayh doesn't mean Bill would be back in the White House either. Furthermore, Bayh is a lot like Hillary in that he's stood for anything that he thought would help him get elected in the future - he's been running for President his whole life. He wanted to prove his toughness with the Iraq war backing, because if all went well as many expected at the time it would look great on his resume right now.

He thougth about running, but didn't probably because Hillary was going to run, and he was likely promised her VP spot. Bayh was the 1996 Convention keynote speaker for Clinton, and is a Clinton golden boy. Hillary/Bayh was the perfect ticket in Clinton's mind.

I don't think he really stands for anything and was doing whatever Bill said. If Obama ends up being his kingmaker (of sorts) I wonder where Bayh's loyalties will lie in the future.

Bayh could choose Hillary for his VP in 8 years time, assuming he could hold off the Warner primary challenge.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

If it is Bayh, is he the price for Clinton's apparent cooperation?

I suspect Obama is confident he can manage Bayh. But if Bayh spends most of his time feeding Clinton, get ready for Clinton beginning her 2012 campaign in 2009, with a little inside help.

Obama will have a lot on his hands in his first term. The last thing he needs is Evan Bayh floating around.

I knocked this around in my head for a few days, deferring to Obama's confidence in ultimately being able to manage Bayh, but surely Obama must know the dangers.

No. This must be a smokescreen. Keep McCain off balance and keep Hilliary neutralized for as long as possible.

Please not Bayh! In addition to all his DLC-type baggage, he's a poor candidate. Obama needs to mix up his game a little more. He may not want to tamper with success, but he's taking some hits. McCain has just changed his game, and he has become more successful and Obama is getting hammered.

Obama needs to look at the present situation and go for a candidate with some edge and some contrast. Even Hillary would be better. Joe Biden has edge. A little more of the duende plus substance. Even Kaine has it. Wesley Clark has it, but he's untested as a serious campaigner. Obama couldn't come up with a more unimpressive candidate than Bayh. Please, "No Drama Obama", spice it up a bit. Bayh is a big snooze.
