Down the Tubes
Does anyone else see this election going down the tubes? Miss Manners, aka Senator Obama, doesn't seem to have learned anything from the last two elections: Nice guys finish last. Time to change the subject. How about one ad that questions McCain's family values. Dumps a disabled poor wife for a young, non-disabled rich wife. Signs the marriage license to wife no. 2 while still married to wife no. 1. Are those your family values? How about another that questions McCain's ability to understand your problems. Photos of his 8 or 9 or 10 houses, his $525 shoes. Do some research and find out how many servants the McCains have and add that (social security, anyone?). Add in that he spent his childhood as an Admiral's son - Admirals are provided with lots and lots of servants. Add that he has never, in his entire life, had to deal with private health insurance. Then on to foreign policy. Did you like Bush in Iraq? You'll love McCain in Georgia. Or Iran. Or wherever. And on to putting country first. McCain's accepted his salary as a Senator, but when it comes to voting, what we elect Senators to do, where is McCain? Not on the Senate floor (cataloge of voting record here). I'm not a media person, but surely Obama can find someone to do effective and truthful attack ads that have some chance of turning the tide here. If he put a request out, I bet lots of you could do better than he's doing now.

It's going down the tubes because Obama is coming off as arrogant and unwilling to fight. Why not take another week long vacation Obama, you obviously don't think it's necessary that should be out on the campaign trail at least matching the effort the 72 yr old McCain is making.
No, once they get to know you they'll like you right? I believe you said that. Maybe we can see another policy ad that nobody pays attention to or a terse form letter response from your campaign when McCain and surrogates question your patriotism. Maybe you can call "liar, liar, pants on fire" on a youtube vid while McCain's claims are seen by millions and seem to go unchallenged by non-youtube watching non-netroot America. And if it isn't challenged it is assumed to be true.
McCain and surrogates came out hard twice this campaign and squashed any chance of an attack sticking, once when Clark went after McCain's credentials to lead, and another when Obama played "the race card". The Obama camp has yet to match that outrage (planned or not), and it makes it seem he doesn't care enough to put up a fight or challenge a smear.
The ratio of those who see/hear a McCain smear to those who read about a tersely worded Obama camp response is probably 1000:1 at least.
Obama crawled across the finish line during the primary, and has never seemed to build back his early momentum. It's like he's in cruise control and think he's destined to be the President or something. Hillary, as much as I didn't like her and don't like her, at least she was a fighter and wanted it, and was willing to claw and scratch and fight for it. There is no sense of urgency with Barack, and I think that is turning off a good number of people.
Wake up for crying out loud. You're going to lose.

Jonze, I enjoy reading your comments. I almost always agree with you. But in this case, I'm going to make a suggestion for both you and Judith. Locate a paper bag, place the bag over your mouth, and breathe in. Really, really deeply. Feel better? I hope so.
Obama is about to control the media cycle for a good two weeks. And out here in red-state land, we see Obama bumper stickers and Obama yard signs and Obama t-shirts. McCain is persona non grata. Lots of republicans have already jumped on the Obama bandwagon.
One of my favorite things to do lately is to find the ones that haven't and ask them what they think of John McCain. They all get that same sad, tired look. Then, they just shake their heads. It's a fun game. Did I mention I live in a red state? It's very possibly about to flip to blue. And if my state goes blue, it's a done deal. President Obama.
So, just keep breathing.

Agree 100%. McCain will do nothing for Americans but screw them and lie like Bush.

I suppose Obama could comment upon all the McCain dirt if he wanted to. However, I would prefer that voters do their own due diligence and actually examine the McCain record. Given the state of the campaign dialog I'm disinclined to believe any candidate. The degree of dishonest representation of facts by our elected officials is over the top. I would hope that shortcoming would lead voters to be a little more circumspect in their decision come November. This really rests with the electorate and there is little excuse for voters to get this wrong. Everything you might want to know is out there. So whatever happens truly has less to do with what a candidate says than with what he or she has actually done. It is absolute childs play to know the precise voting record of any candidate. That alone presents us with a great deal of insight into what a candidate really believes.

I'm with Orlando regarding the need for a little calm. For all his efforts McCain just doesn't seem to be getting much traction. Whatever advantage McCain got from the "Celebrity" was undercut by Paris Hilton's video reply (Paris Hilton as a political player - now THATS a sign of the End Times). Obama's national ads may be more feel-good then hard-hitting, but his state-level ads are pretty cutting. And of course, the important thing to keep in mind about this dual strategy is that Obama can afford such a strategy.

You'll excuse me if I put more faith in the judgments of Obama, Axelrod et al, who have so far run a brilliant campaign, than I do in your anxiety laden RXs.
