Developing: Biden is the pick!!!
Mark Halperin is reporting that Biden is the pick. My first choice was Mark Warner of VA, but Biden is a pit bull with brains. I don't care about the "gaffe machine" label because everyone says dumb stuff. The point is he is on the right side of the issues and is passionate about them. He connects with so many people. This would be a great pick.

If you haven't heard from Obama, Kennedy or Holder, you haven't heard anything yet. And, given that Obama keeps info air-tight until he wants to read it, I'd accord Halperin as much respect as Drudge on this issue.

Great. Here goes the election.

Great. Here goes eight years of President Obama and the end of Hillary's chances of ever being President. And just because she ran a disorganized campaign, couldn't let go of incompetent advisors, lied about Tuzla a few times, couldn't control Bill, and other trivial shit like that? It's just not fair! It was her turn! If Obama knew his place he'd have waited until 2016! Stomps away muttering

Until I hear from the Obama campaign I'm not believing anything in the MSM :)

I think this is a big headfake where he's not going to roll out the VP, but roll out VP and one or two cabinet members, Biden being one of them.
The message: this is how I'll govern, and they are going to campaign with me on policy issues.
The only risk is it gives the opposition too much time to find dirt on Biden before his confirmation.

Where does Halperin report such? Not on The Page.

I saw the story, but it does not say Biden is the pick. It says:
Bo knows…the pick.

The professional chatterers are not going to know who Obama selects any sooner than the thousands of Obama supporters who have signed up for the email or text message notice.
I am guessing the likes of Halperin, Clemmons, etc will end up with egg on their faces, as the choice will be someone other than who their super secret sources tell them it will be.

Halperin is lying. It's a guess.
Rightwing GOP operative Mark Halperin lies and makes shit up all the time.

Biden has improved his chances of being Secretary of State, that's all. He can take trips and yap with forners abroad.
Obama has to turn the country around. A character like Biden can't execute such an undertaking.
Agreed. Haperin and co. don't get it. They's just running their mouths.

Biden is popular around my neck of the woods, a swing state. No matter who Obama picks, many will be unhappy. I think all the veep candidates I've heard about have good qualities and issues. We have a deep bench, and I hope the purity trolls don't come out too hard after the pick.
I trust Obama -- he's the top of the ticket, so it's his platform.

The Obama campaign has kept things extremely tight-lipped.
Nobody knows anything.

It might very well be Biden. But like jsfox, I'm not going to believe anything until I get my text message.

The text could come tomorrow am and if not will most likely come either Thursday or Friday!

We'll know tomorrow because he's in Virginia and having some sort of town hall with Kaine. If he's not introducing Kaine as VP when together in Kaines home state then you know he's not the pick, meaning it's Biden. You're not going to have a rally with Kaine, leave Virginia and then release that Kaine is your VP.
We'll know by this time tomorrow.

I don't know, though. The problem is that Obama has been known to throw people off. Even having an event scheduled in Virginia with Kaine doesn't mean he's got it.
Nor does that mean Biden's got it. Personally, I'm getting more and more skeptical of what the media is reporting on this. Part of me thinks a lot of them are just taking a shot in the dark, or going on shoddily-sourced info because the Obama camp. won't say anything else.
Anyway, as I've said, I'm just gonna wait for that text. Until I get it, I'm going to (for the most part) ignore any "facts" people think they know about who Obama's chosen.

Isn't Friday the day for negative news? I think Thursday could be 'the day'. Although several have reported it has been set for a Wednesday release.

Look at the polls, McCain dominates Obama in National Security. Obama is not going to close that gap in two and a half months - McCain is the brand name and Obama seems unwilling to challenge it.
On the other hand Tim Kaine's whole family is going to be at the convention - his wife, kids AND PARENTS. If I'm not mistaken, Kaine doesn't even have a speaking role yet. Of course maybe he was just hedging him bets knowing he was on the really short list.

As a side observation -
Don't you just love how the GOP can take real war hero John Kerry and turn his service, his heroism and even his injuries against him? And then, in the very next election cycle turn the honorable, but not necessarily heroic, service of John McCain into an unimpeachable brand!

I'm thinking Biden may be Sec. of State since he was sent to Georgia.
Does Clark have 'role' at DNC Convention?
August 19, 2008 11:10 AM | Reply | Permalink
Steve Clemmons reported a few days ago that "Clark was informed by Barack Obama's people that there was no reason to come."
A report which the whackjobs at No Quarter cited to tell us what a horrible person Obama is.
I think Biden would be a great Sec. of State. His propensity to dismiss fools wouldn't be the problem it would be if he were VP and he certainly knows his stuff.

I also read somewhere yesterday that Clark has said he is ready to be of whatever service he may be at the convention if asked.
It just seems to me that Clark has all of the credentials and putting out words that he would not be attending the convention (yeah, right) is just a bit suspicious.
The remarks I've read that Obama doesn't want Clark around because he supported Clinton are way off base. If there is one thing that Obama has demonstrated he is not, it is he is not vindictive.
Of course, I have no idea who Obama will select, or when; and neither does anyone else, except a very few in the Obama camp.
August 19, 2008 11:29 AM | Reply | Permalink
It's not because he supported Clinton. It's because Clark comes from the Clinton Wing of the Democratic Party.
Barack Obama comes from Nancy Pelosi Wing of the Democratic Party.
When push comes to shove, this is nothing but an age-old power struggle.

You may be interested in this very interesting report a link to which I posted yesterday.
None-the-less, this line that Obama is being vindictive toward Clark is nonsense. After all Bayh is from the DLC/Clinton wing and was a fervent supporter of Clinton and Obama has been campaigning with Bayh. Likewise with other Clinton supporters.
I just think this whole Clark thing is just a bit too coy.

Biden voted for that slimy bankruptcy bill when the credit card companies were making record profits. I hope he doesn't get it.
August 19, 2008 12:26 PM | Reply | Permalink
So how many people have signed up for an email/text message because of all this this chattering? I think it's a great ploy--we've had this steady stream of rumors, Kaine, Bayh, now Biden. Suddenly everyone (myself included) wants to get that text message and be the first to know.
If we were playing Clue (Veep Edition), I'd call Schweitzer, at the convention, with the energy policy.
Here's a couple reasons: (1) If it was going to be this week, it would have been this morning. Why narrow the window of media attention before the convention? I don't think it's Kaine, and who else could he announce tomorrow? Thursday is too late. (2) McCain's going to announce the day after the Dem Convention, so this gives him only a couple of days if his decision might be influenced by Obama's pick. Plus, this way the media attention on VPs will overlap, which is good if Obama feels confident about a head-to-head matchup (and he better feel confident).
OK, the Schweitzer thing might be wishful thinking, but that's my guess. He's got the energy plan down pat, talks about it in a persuasive, easy to understand way, and would totally neutralize the "drill now" nonsense. And he does an end-run around the foreign policy question. He obviously knows his way around the world, but not because he's an old Washington hand. Finally, of course, he fits right in with the change theme...

I met a guy the other day at a bar whose sister was married to a therapist who had a patient who ran into a guy at the ballgame who heard from his pet goat that Obama was going to pick someone from America.

Quite literally Mark Warner should have been the pick if he was up for it. That ticket would be beyond fantastic. My picks were Warner,Clark, or BIDEN. So I have no problems with this one.
