Chris Matthews smacks down Pat's religion test - kudos!
Pat Robertson (that annoying anachronism, as another commenter mentioned) remarks that Michelle Obama's speech had no mention of religion or faith.
Matthews points out we don't have a religion test in this country - and this was not a religious event...nice. Thank you for not allowing the religious right wing to impose their ideas of what is acceptable behaviour and reminding us of the wisdom of our forefathers in separating religion from state...

Actually, Robertson asked why there was no mention of Christianity, even more of a foul. Yes, good for Mathews to remind of us Jeffersonian principles.

It was actually Pat Buchanan. Thank god (and I'm agnostic) that they don't have Pat Robertson on the cable news networks. Although Buchanan is bad in his own right.

And Matthews did a great job.

Robertson, Buchanan, they blur together. Thanks for the correction though.

The media can see which way the wind is blowing.
They're just jumping ship to the Democratic side of things, because even the pundits can see Obama's popularity is a product of a deeper change in society.
The pundits' liveihoods depends to being able to score interviews with people in power. If the people in power (or will be in power in 4 months) aren't too keen on conspicuous religion, then the pundits won't be too keen on conspicuous religion, if for no other reason than to appeal to their potential interviewees.
It doesn't make Matthews (or anyone else) any better that they now "remind us of Jeffersonian priniples." It just makes him a smart pundit.

I hope you're right. I've pretty much written off the MSM, but I'd like to believe that there's some hope of it being restored and again serving a meaningful purpose in our society.

That well may be it. But I also think there is a desire by the MSM to kneecap whoever they think is having positive movement.
We'll know for sure if this fairer-to-Obama trend holds or if they go back on the attack as soon as the numbers move three points in Obama's favor. I fear their mission is to keep the nation divided right down the middle.

And it would have been a trap anyway, but Buchanan would have exclaimed "Rev. Wright!!!!!!!"
That's why I watched C-Span all evening long and avoided the inane pre-during-and-post commentary.

Yes, C-Span was the way to watch this. It's amazing, the 24 hour networks finally have a time when they can shut up, quit making stuff up, and show an event, but instead they use the event as a backdrop to the same crap that they always do.

Yeah - must be lack of sleep and had Robertson on my mind - meant Buchanan!!

Pat missed the point: The fact that Michelle was giving the speech is proof positive that miracles can occur. 18 months ago, if I told you that Hillary would be knocked out of the primary by a relative unknown, who would believe it?
