Bill Clinton Can't Help Himself

Even on the night his wife is supposed to be the star, Bill can't help but complicate matters.

The former president, speaking in Denver, posed
a hypothetical question in which he seemed to suggest that that the
Democratic Party was making a mistake in choosing Obama as its
presidential nominee.

He said: "Suppose
for example you're a voter. And you've got candidate X and candidate Y.
Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don't think that
person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half
the issues, but you believe that on the other half, the candidate will
be able to deliver. For whom would you vote?"

Kind of makes you wonder what, exactly, he's going to say tomorrow night...

I wish they had provided more context. That sure isn't a stand-alone statement - and we don't have any idea what it was in response to. It seems that someone's just trying to create trouble where there isn't any.

Anyhow. Everyone knows Bill thinks Hillary was a better choice. So what? Wake me when he says something nice about McCain - that's who we're fighting.

you mean like this?

John McCain has the best record of any Republican running for president on the energy issue and on climate change.

TPM anonymous bloggers love paragraphs without context. The diarist does not know what Clinton was asked, but he still went on with his diary.

Cultists swear that creating fights between Democrats will help their candidate.

i linked to the article in question.

feel free to look there if you feel i haven't provided proper context.

but for those to lazy to click, here's more "context".

The former president talked about the importance of a politician being able to deliver on his promises following an electoral victory and how voters factor in that ability to deliver when picking their candidate.

During the contentious and at times nasty nomination battle between Clinton and Obama, the Clinton campaign repeatedly pushed the question of whether Obama, a freshman senator, had the experience or the ability to deliver on his promises if elected. Clinton, they argued, was more suited to do so.

The former president devoted much of his sometimes-rambling remarks to solving the global energy crisis and the need to address climate change.

He said that? My goodness I thought this was supposed to be a fantastic politician? This guy is quickly...........you know what, water under the bridge come wed.

Think so, do you? I hope you are right.

I am trying hard to let it go but that guy is really trying to piss me off.

Al Giordana from The Field has a post discussing the NYT Editorial today that basically says that Old Bill needs to show some class and get the hell over it:

What seems especially important right now is Mr. Kennedy’s ability to concede defeat gracefully and rearm himself for another good fight. That is a strength we hope Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton can emulate.

Mrs. Clinton will not be nominated this week, and we know that is a great disappointment to her many supporters. But she has a long political future ahead of her, most immediately as the junior senator from New York, and a responsibility to her party to concede defeat gracefully and rearm for another good fight.

Many of her die-hard supporters — starting with her husband, former President Bill Clinton — have clearly not learned that lesson.

This from the paper that endorsed both Hillary and McCain for President. I think it's time for the Clinton's to back the Democratic nominee for President, don't you? Wholeheartedly? If they can't bring themselves to do that, they should certainly not do anything to undermine him.

Now, that said, I do believe that Hillary's been pretty much doing her part. Bill, on the other hand, has been having like a child, particularly this week. Enough. I can't stand to see a man that I actually used to respect a good deal acting this way.
