All that Glitters Isn't Gold

When it comes to picking a President many Americans may feel, as I, like Shakespeare’s Hamlet trying to tell the real from the unreal, the truth from the lie and the person from the facade. We see what we expect and we expect what we believe. Or, we may see what we hope we could see. Let’s remove the rose glasses for a minute. Stop for just a second. Although caution may be the crutch of the skeptic, it is also the tool of the realist.

We are anxious, and maybe a little desperate, for someone to believe in. We want a person of their word that does what they say. Regardless, many of us cannot help but cautiously test the water before jumping in and supporting any candidate.

Despite being burnt by many politicians, I think that there is something deep within us that hopes we have found the one to believe in.

No doubt about it. Barack Obama inspires and this sparkle is like water for a thirsty man in the desert. Cool and refreshing. But, after being stung so many times when reaching for the honey, we must look to see if the nugget is gold all through and through.

There are some unanswered questions about Obama. Most obviously, the Rezko Affair which puts squarely in issue Barack's judgment, integrity and whether he has real concern for his own people.

When he was in the Illinois State Legislature Rezko, whom Obama calls a friend, owned 11 buildings in Obama’s district. Some had no heat in the winter and constituents complained to Obama. It does not appear that Barack did much, if anything, about constituent complaints other than send them to the Housing Authority. During this period Barack took thousands of dollars from Rezko.  It does not appear that he gave the Rezko money to charity until after he was caught.

Integrity at the point of a gun, is not much to brag about.

Call me a Doubting Thomas when it comes to all candidates.

We heard the integrity and unity bit before. That bit was the campaign mantra of George W. Bush when he took the 2000 Presidential election. He delivered neither. Bush divided the country more starkly than any President in a century and made hundreds of false statements to lure America into an unnecessary war of aggression. So much for talk.

Many Obama supporters are being swept up in a carnival like atmosphere gleefully riding the merry-go-round while reaching for the brass ring of change. Is what we think we see in Obama real or is it the mirage of a thirsty man in the desert? It cannot hurt to stop for a second, look, and listen. It is so important that it would not be hyperbole to say that the future of America, if not the world, is at stake.

Is Barack Obama a snake oil salesman with a hypnotic potion or a modern day Savanarola striking at political immorality and real change?

There has always been a thrill of finding fools gold. But, there is despair when the assessor tells us the truth. Let’s hope that Obama is the real thing. But, if he is the snake oil salesman that is the same ole Washington we hate. Pretending to be something you are not is not a new kind of politics. It is the exact thing we want to change.

Here's the transcript of a Chicago Tribune interview with Barack Obama, talking specifically about Tony Rezko. It's 13 pages long. I have all the answers I need.

"Call me a Doubting Thomas when it comes to all candidates."

Okay, then let's now see your lengthy critique of McCain? You might as well send us the one for Clinton too. Just so we can see that your critique of Obama is in good faith.

(I won't be holding my breath waiting to read them.)

Having endured 15 minutes of the recording of your July 13 radio show, I can honestly say you have never actually explored the truth about Obama. You claim to be a Democrat and to still support Hillary Clinton, so that sort of indicates you have a grudge against Obama. In your show, you took Obama out of context and claimed he was never vetted and was given "a magic carpet ride" by the press. And that was only in the first few minute of one show. God only knows what other apocryphal knowledge you hold dear.

You hold so many inaccurate beliefs about Obama that it is difficult to see how a few people here could find enough time to deprogram all the brainwashing you regurgitate.

Perhaps if you actually read the interview Orlando links to above, you might understand the truth about that particular smear you've bought into. But you will have to read much more to learn the truth about the other false claims you repeat in previous posts.

It's nice to be a radio show host, I guess. But you will have to listen and read more than you speak if you want to separate fact from fiction.

The Rezko connection has been so thoroughly investigated, looked at and re looked at I can only assume -

You either live in a cave, looking for McCain points or live in the alternative universe of the PUMAs.

Rezko, you say? Do I have that spelled correctly? I want to be sure I google correctly for it when I check out this very serious concern that you have raised. I just hope Obama doesn't turn out to have had an inflammatory pastor at a church he attended or anything like that! That could be a very big concern to be concerned about if such a concern were to arise. Thanks for your diligence in bringing these concerns to our attention!

The fact that you are apparently unaware of the fact that a state senator has no authority to take necessary measures to remedy housing code violations places you amongst the profoundly uninformed.

No, he's just reading from his autographed advance copy of Obama Nation. He thinks it's a work of great scholarship cause Mary Matalin said so.

Even the most rudimentary research (as pointed out to you above, and you can add the Rezko trial transcript if you'd like) shows the Rezko connection has been debunked. In fact, a more troubling Rezko connection exists for the Clintons through their close association with Myron "Mike" Cherry.

But Mr. Young operates on the same logic of the little boy who got a box full of horse manure for Christmas and spent the rest of the day looking for his new pony.

But Mr. Young operates on the same logic of the little boy who got a box full of horse manure for Christmas and spent the rest of the day looking - THROUGH THE MANURE - for his new pony.

Heh, heh.

Okay, I'm trying to find an example of a troll so I'll know what to look for in the future, so I can make sure not to feed it...Is this one?

Fine line here.

Not by my judgement. I think a troll is one

-- whose prose is inflammatory and designed to appeal to negative base emotions, and/or

-- who offers little or no logical or documentary support for the argument, and/or

-- presents falsehoods as facts to bolster the argument.

Therefore Mr. Young is not a troll by my standards. He's just wrongly informed.

Good definition. But don't forget to include the sometimes harder to detect 'Concern Trolls'.

Precisely why I'm reserving judgment about Mr. Young.

Pixies, leprechauns, and tooth fairies are also difficult to detect. Could it be that "concern trolls" are difficult to detect for the same reason?

Patrick Fitzgerald was in charge of Rezko's prosecution. Case closed.

Shall we talk also about the Keating 5? How about McCain dumping his injured wife for Cindy?

And how about him shilling for Georgia and asking for war with Russia? And you think I'm going to worry about Obama?

Apparently you find nothing wrong with taking hush money to look the other way when your constitutes are freezing. I guess that is a moral judgment on which we differ.

No, Rezko has not been sufficiently explored by the press and Obama refused to answer more questions.

On the house deal even Obama admitted it was "boneheaded." So, you defend what even Obama doesn't.

You have your own facts. I would like to hear them. So far, it is all general contention. I guess it is a blind faith thing - follow the pide piper.

Give me a factual challenge or opinion based on facts.

LOL

Great. The number of pages matters You see nothing wrong with taking money from a slum lord and looking the other way.

Chris,

You are technically right. But, are you saying he had no moral responsibility to his people. Not even a call to Rezko. Maybe the one hand coul take the money while the other made the phone call.

Nothing has been debunked. He even gave thye money to charity. If it wasn't wrong why not stand on principa. Oh, he could do that becuase he has none.

I may be digging though the manure looking for the pony (a tired old example) but at least I am not swallowing it like you. Does it taste good?

This is not a friendly environment. I wish you all well. Some very good writers. I tried to reply to certain people, but, apparently I don't know how this thing works.

I wish I didn't feel this way about Obama. I am a Democrat, but, there is much more than Rezko.

My phone number is (865)679-8608.
