UGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

LAST TIME, I PROMISE!

I STILL have goose bumps on my goose bumps (well, not so much anymore...my goosebumps have given way to the frustration I am feeling over not being able to figure out why this post won't go through in it's entirety!)

The very idea that Chuck Todd suggested that John McCain could have made that speech is appalling...I'm hoping he meant to say that it was a speech that wasn't terribly controversial and therefore could have been given by either party. The thought that John McCain could have come up with a speech this inspirational, let alone delivered it so passionately is ludicrous.

Unfortunately, although it helps to energize existing supporters, I don't know that it will draw any converts to the cause. I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot of ignorant, uneducated, partisan, racist people out there who could never bring themselves to vote for Obama no matter what.

How else can you explain a vote for McCain? Daily he either says or does something that exposes what a shallow, self-serving, void-of-principles person he is. The very idea that a thinking person could waste their vote on him leaves me speechless.

No doubt about it, Obama has changed, softened, refined (or whatever words you chose to use) a number of positions, but that comes from being a pragmatist.

McCain attempts to distance himself from Bush while joyfully accepting his fundraising efforts, deriding Obama for not going to Iraq, then criticizing him for grandstanding when he does, saying he wants to run a clean campaign, then resorts to all kinds of innuendos to disparage his opponent, panders to the poor ignorant people that don't know the "gas tax holiday" is a gimmick, says "my friend" when he means "you SOB"...my list of grievances could go on and on.

But he's a white, veteran, moderate, w/ tons of experience in the whorehouse we call the senate (shouldn't that be reason enough to vote for Obama?) so isn't he a safer choice than this scary, liberal black man  who speaks so eloquently about hope (and, shhhhsh, he might be a Muslim?) Downright frightening...

And in spite of it all, this race could go either way...

Not everybody who votes against Obama is an ignorant racist. The vast majority just have a differing opinion is all. Many might believe Obama is a flash-in-the-pan and is largely an unknown entity, whereas at least McCain can be controlled by his cabinet brain trust chock full of Republicans. I don't think many GOP are actually enthused with McCain, but he's their candidate for better or worse.

McCain is going to get at least 47% of the popular vote on Nov 4th.

If you're right then 47 percent of our electorate are complete dopes!

The guy is pathetic! Would anyone let him even drive their car? Take care of their kids? Manage their bank accounts? Teach history in a high school? Run a hot-dog stand?

John McCain is months away from managed care; he has no business running
Anything!

Brain trust chock full of neocons for McSame. Terrific control.

Recommended, if only for the sheer determination it took to get this posted.
No, McCain could never have made that speech.
Much less got 200,000 Germans to turn out for it.
Yes, Obama still scares many voters. But November is many months away, and he gets less exotic and unusual by the day.
Despite the close polls, his ground organization already gives him a likely five-point-plus lead.
But as he once jokingly but infamously said, "To know me is to love me."
By election night, the spread should be in Johnson-Goldwater territory.
Obama has the personality, message and strategic vision to pull this off; McCain has none of them.
The Obama campaign would really have to blow a tire for the election to be even close.

They do not allow commercial pilots to fly passenger planes at McCain's age, then why on earth would anyone want him to pilot the future of the planet!

You know damn well that it most homes he would not be given control of the TV remote.

We old people have to accept or diminishing capacities to stay in command of complex demanding issues. Let someone more with more vigor and vitality take their turn behind the steering wheel, because you do not want an international Bob Novak hit and run event to occur, and McCain to just sit there and say: Iran, what do you mean I just ran over Iran, I never even saw it; now where the hell did I put my dentures jar.

LOL! Spoken by a true born-again Christian? Interesting.

Hey, ready to blow! Yeah, well...doesn't mean I don't try to love the poor misguided souls!

Ignore readytoblow -- he was dropped on his head as an infant.

Repeatedly.

It's okay...me and ready to blow have come to an understanding...no malice meant by his/her post...

Good answers, stillidealistic. ;-)

So on to my real question for you: Staying with the religious theme, don't you think some well-meaning people are made genuinely uncomfortable (if not outright aghast) by Obama's 20-year relationship with Rev. Wright? I'm not speaking for myself, but I can see how some people might not be able to forgive and forget the "God Damn America" stuff, especially. Rev. Wright made a big impact when he first hit YouTube, at least according to polls at the time. I wonder how this played with people you know who aren't necessarily racist and ignorant and uneducated, stillidealistic. Everyone has a line in the sand, and for some people, Rev. Wright crosses that line. (Of course he's not in the news at the moment, but I expect we'll hear more about or from him in the coming months.) Just curious how you got to the racist/ignorant/uneducated conclusion, when I can see other plausible conclusions.

You can disagree strongly with the words of your Pastor and still feel a real connection to your church and church family. My understanding is that Obama got involved w/ this church, got saved, appreciated many aspects of the church, and made allowances for the rantings of the Pastor. I can certainly see that happening. I don't pretend to know his heart, but I just can't reconcile the man I see w/ this over-the-top Pastor. If he truly believes the things Wright says, he's a better actor than any I've ever seen.
His kids are precious, he seems to adore his family...these things are more important to me than Wright's rantings...Plus, there are many whacko Pastors on the right...I hate it when all Evangelicals are judged on the basis of what they say...

As to the people I know...most are partisan, ignorant, uneducated or racist...doesn't make me love them any less...just don't agree w/ their politics!

Racist for identifying Obama with Wright after Obama disavowed Wrights vitriol and then offed Wright after Wright called Obama a liar in public. George Carlin has it right. Most Most Americans are stupid, uneducated creeps who couldn't evaluate a candidate from the point of view of their own self-interest if their lives depended on it. I know. My family in Indiana voted for Goldwater, Nixon, Reagen, Bushies, and its a huge family that's representative. They're deadly people, licensing their heroes to kill people in the Middle East. They're similar to like the lady from Georgia who pronounced that she hopes Obama is shot on the day he's elected. The raucous hate roiling just below the surface in this country will be exposed if he does get shot. Given our history of executing the Kennedys and King, that scenario is on the minds of many Obama supporters. To whit, things are much worse than you seem to think.

I can also say empathic things about the middle and right folks and propose how to reach them, but the reality is that so many of them are grossly insensitive, deeply prejudiced, rigid, hateful people, as were the middleclass Nazis who terrorized the world.

The very idea that Chuck Todd suggested that John McCain could have made that speech is appalling...

Is the very reason Chuck Todd will not be the new host of Meet the Press.

Good post, idealistic. Thanks for your persistence. I only quibble that McCain is a moderate. He was a moderate. Now he's a frightening neocon lap dog itching to get his finger (claw?) on the trigger. The more I see, the more I think we would end up in WWIII with McCain. As horrible as Bush was, I think McCain is quite possible more dangerous. His quick temper, his lack of impulse control, his fascination with war and desire to be vindicated and his oncoming senility all point to a disaster in the making. I would like to be wrong, but I never want to find out.

Let's do all we can to help the blind to see, the deaf to hear and the dumb to find the right name on the ballot.

I wonder why TPM likes to change the word "possibly" into "possible"? Or is it me?

I'm sure it's that dastardly TPM wizard behind the curtain!

We have seen first hand the impact of a President in power with oedipal father issues. How can we survive with another? McCain's grandfather was an admiral, McCain's father was an admiral but, McCain was by and large a disgrace at the academy and reached his own level of incompetence (rank) at a far lower pay grade than he grew up to believe was needed for family approval. His desire for the Presidency is likely based on this history and not an altruistic desire to leave the world a better place after he is gone.

What does it take for people in this country to learn that leaders with inferiority complexes are dangerous?

That so many in this country can't see this for what it is speaks volumes about how pathetic we really are as a society.

"I've got blisters on me fingers!"

-Helter Skelter, The Beatles (take 18)

And the award for perseverance goes to...stillidealistic ;)

The McCain campaign has devolved into defensiveness. All they are offering up in their statements anymore is just red meat to their base. That McCains 'base' will still take bites of red meat that has been sitting unfrozen on the kitchen counter for 8 years now points to the impact of inbreeding by demonstrating how shallow the vast majority of repulican voters are, not to mention their lack of intelligence, common sense or survival skills. The members of the McCain campaign seem more and more diagnosable as high-functioning mentally retarded with IQ's that would test at 90 to 100 on a good day.

It is seeming like McCain has outsourced his campaign to a workshop and his affect seems to be displaying signs of PTSD and/or dimentia. If this trend continues the press is going be spending more time consulting the DSM-IV more rather than records of his time and work in the Senate.

How else can you explain a vote for McCain? Daily he either says or does something that exposes what a shallow, self-serving, void-of-principles person he is. The very idea that a thinking person could waste their vote on him leaves me speechless.
