Should I Stop This?

Hi there, come on in.  Good to see you, how was your day?  No, that's fine, just put it over there.  Can I get you something?  Sure, no problem.  Grab a seat, I think you might be able to find one on the sofa.  I'll be right back.  Sox, will you please get down - yes they love you but ... fine, then.  No, it's not OK, she's spoiled enough already!

It occurs to me that this may be my one month anniversary.  I think I've been bothering you good people for 30 days with nightly posts. Been around longer than that, but started this nightly improbable blog about that long ago.  Gosh.  I took a bit of time to reflect and have to say I'm so impressed.  I've heard from so many different folks, some have become regular friends, some have passed through with a thought or two.  Some of the thoughts have been remarkable.  Amazing.  Thoughtful, insightful, personal, loving and absolutely incredible.  Each and every one appreciated more than the participants can ever know.  I sincerely thank you all.

Before I continue to occupy my little nightly piece of TPMCafe space, I feel the need to ask something.  Please, be honest or the question has no worth.  I'm not asking for praise just as I usually don't ask for (or want) recommends.  Just what I always get from you great people; truth.  Straight up.

Should I stop this?

No, Melissa, please don't give up this nightly post, unless you want to, because it has become a burden to you. I don't think you realize how much we enjoy your nightly thoughts about whatever, and what a gift we consider this to be to all of us.
In fact, I have just walked down to the school library, at 10:30 on Saturday night, because the cable connection to my house got struck by lightning on Wednesday and I didn't want your post from yesterday (if you made one) to disappear before I had a chance to read it.
You've got fans and friends. It's up to you. Do you want someone to alternate with, or some other share arrangement so that it is not always on you?

You are amazing to me. Thank you.

I love doing these posts. It is not a burden, but a pleasure. Please do not take me wrong. I simply do not want to burden others who may feel I am taking up space that I should not. These are not political posts. For the most part, they probably don't even belong on TPM. I'm simply concerned that folks who don't like the intrusion haven't said. Guess this is the chance I'm giving them.

It has been interesting (as well as a nuisance) to have to go somewhere since Wednesday to read TPM. That has cut down my total addiction to it as a matter of necessity, which is not entirely a bad thing, but it's also cut off my sense of real in-the-moment connectio, which is a very bad thing.
One of the things your post accomplishes is to keep people connected, in an entirely positive way. And that has infinite value on TPM, where rancor can run wild in a heartbeat. It is soothing, Melissa, to know that we can jump into the fray if we wish to, but that literally at the end of the day, we can retreat from it to a kinder, gentler place at your place. Where we learn just as much about what matters, in our personal lives, as we learn on some other threads about our political lives.
Reading the posts tonight -- having not read any today, yesterday, or the evening before that -- is illuminating. I can tell I've missed some interesting debates, which I regret. But what strikes me, with a fresh eye, is that if my time to read is limited, then I want to read the posts of people I know and admire first; and if there is time after that, I'll certainly read the others.
I will always look for yours.
And by the way, when is Aunt Sam going to write a post? That is one smart woman, who does not suffer fools gladly, but has the gift of expressing her opinion without evoking the backlash I sometimes elicit.
Are you listening, Aunt Sam? Pick a topic and post!

Lightening struck, you and Everest are safe I assume. Relieved for that.

Thank you, wwstaebler, for considering what I do worthwhile. I'm not so sure, I guess. I read alot throughout the morning, day and evening and feel so inept. So insignificant. Almost embarrassed to post my simple thoughts.

The point has been made for intent, I suppose. But for content? Not so sure.

Melissa,

Listen up. You are about to get a stern talking to - this type of self depreciation is so not allowed. Especially from someone who is such a gifted, yes! I said and meant gifted, writer.

I choose to believe - that without a strong soul, a heartbeat dancing in rhythm with so many others and a mass of incredibly wise grey matter -well, it wouldn't be possible to pen your winsome meanderings so beautifully.

You have opened up a door for many who walk through seeking and finding solace, conversation, comfort and more. A blessing to many and a curse to none.

Okay, now - your penance for doubting your worth is you must spend fifteen minutes petting Sox.

Bless you, Aunt Sam. Your thoughts are so important to me. I'm amazed that mine seem important to you. Thank you.

Sox says hi!

I've got the timer ticking and I know Sox will tell me if she doesn't get the whole fifteen!

Hey, we have got to think of a nickname for 'WWS' as the initials don't suit her and the whole is too much. Thoughts?

hmmm... will give that thought, you're right. :)

As usual, WWS says it best. And as usual, she's right - It's your choice!

As long as your door is open, there will be lots of visitors who enjoy the company and the warmth.

Slipping down the charts ...

Hoping for more prior to oblivion.

No! Don't close up your oasis of relaxation and good will!

Don't stop.

(Believin'. )

By the by... hardly too personal. ;-)

Please don't stop. This is a nightly break from the rest of the noise, and has become one of the real highlights of my day to read what's on your mind, and what kind and gentle thoughts are on the minds of others here.

Gentle ideas, soft images. Nice way to spend a few minutes. Thank you for it.

And thank you for that.

Well, since you're open tonight at least, I just thought to stop by and offer some blueberries my wife and I picked on Sauvie's Island today. The weather was great: highs in the upper 70s low 80's and plenty of clouds to block the sun. The place we went to is a family-owned farm, a favorite of ours and we try to make it out during the height of the berry season. Will go good with just a dash of cream!

I love fresh blueberries! Thank you both so much, really. I don't have any cream in the place tonight, but will be sure to get some tomorrow.

Are you speaking of Sauvie's Island in Oregon (outside of Portland)?

Yes! It's a lovely flat as a pancake island in the middle of the Columbia River. Entirely agriculture land. Many farms and also some great migratory bird watching!

I ran a half-marathon there a few years back: the "Flat Half" as it was called.

Use to live not to far from there myself. Fruit in Summer and Pumpkins in Fall. A wonderful place for bikeriding (at least used to be).

Please tell me it's still got the 'rural' feel to it.

It does! But the traffic is so heavy nowadays; I fear for the bicyclists (who are always out there in numbers) there are no bicycle lanes and some of the car drivers barrel along fairly fast on those blind curves on the north and east part of the island.

Do they still have wonderul berry fields? Geez, I must have picked a ton of strawberries out there. Freezer Jam was my favorite. Of course, I ate so many in the field that by the time I got them home and started the jam, I almost gagged. Good Times There! And in the first sunny, warm spring days - bike riding all over.
Traffic was only bad in early evening and some weekends. During week days, hardly a vehicle.
Thanks, you've made it a strong visual again for me. Appreciate.

Oh, that was forgetful of me...hi, WWstaebler, Aunt Sam, Coral Sea, msa3!

Good evening to you, Lux Umbra Dei, and please save some of those berries for tomorrow.

Oh, man... would that I could share my off-the-tree figs and peaches with you & your fresh blueberries!

*sigh* Is there anything better than midsummer fruit??

Everest and I are fine (although it would be good for the school to ground a few wires here and there).
But you are sounding not so fine tonight, Melissa. So we all need to tell you, if we have not, which things you've written that really wowed us, as individuals. I loved your summer night post, as I find your storm descriptions so technicolor that I really feel as if I am there, as if I can actually smell that change in the air right before the storm breaks loose. The same is true when you describe a sunset. You have got nature covered, just for starters.
I'd like to encourage you to write more about the people you meet through your work. I remember one of your early posts that described a tourist so accurately, but so sympathetically, that I thought you must be saint.
As to what you write as political commentary, I am always impressed and, frankly, frequently intimidated. I think "Why didn't I see that?" or "Yes, realigned, just as she said, that would make a huge difference" and sometimes I think: "Well, I would never have figured that out, that way, but never mind, Melissa got it one."
So you see, Melissa, it's not just this warm and inviting place you've created which is filled with your imagination and your creativity; it is also your powers of observation and analysis, so that, in fact, you add light to every post you join.
I have to go home now, before the security system goes on. But I'll look for your post tomorrow.
Carry on. Next?

I hope you are able to read this before it 'drops' off. I enjoy your posts so much. Ever, they reflections of a kind, gentle and wise old soul (you know what I mean!).
I do have many things I want to post about, but I'm so behind in work projects, not to mention personal chores that it's become but a goal to be able to have time to do it.
Thanks for all the warm thoughts, so appreciated.
Take care and hopefully tomorrow we can 'touch base' again.

Yes, I too know what you mean Aunt Sam.

This is pretty much an old soul hangout.

It'll be gone soon, so thanks to all who shared. Wish it lasted longer, but ...

I kinda like it, MM. Please don't feel any pressure to do it every night - because this stuff DOES take time, and I'm grateful for that - but it's kinda nice to just wander by from time to time and just see a few other people chatting, and to choose whether to join in or not. It's different, too. It's own thing. The other Chat Room thingie is fine too, but sometimes it's nice not to have to chat too much. So, as one opinion, I'd just say let it unfold in a pace & a way you like it, and see how it grows, changes, has its seasons. Sometimes people may grouch, sometimes want music, sometimes Sox has to sit outside because a visitor is allergic to cats.

Got my vote though.

Thanks, quinn. Feel free to join in sometime. But if not, I enjoy your prose.

I like stopping in here to chat with you and to rub Sox behind the ears. Please keep it up!

By the way, you got a beer? I've been spending the weekend with my Republican family and I didn't bring any beer. I've been drinking Diet Pepsi all night and I'm flying high on all the caffeine.

Hey Lis - I can't get over there tonight, so will you please give Melissa a hug for me? Methinks she's needin' a bit of your warmth and support.

Thanks.

(And quit giving Sox a sip of your beer! You know what happens to her...)

Sure. Bud or Miller Light?

Coors Light, actually. And I promise I won't share it with Sox this time.

Here's a {{{HUG}}} from Aunt Sam.

Tahnks for the hug from Aunt Sam! And great to see you, Lis.

Well 'night all. And I hope the door is open tomorrow night! Phyllis wants to go back out and pick marionberries, so maybe I'll bring some...

Well ladies and gents -

It's about that time.

And Melissa, not to be trite (as it's really not meant to be) - This truly is like 'reachin' out and touchin' someone! Nice. Very.

To all a blessed good night. Hope to 'see' you again soon.

Take care.

'Night, Aunt Sam. Thank you so much.

Cricket?

It's late, so good night to all. I suppose I'll keep doing this thing I do until you tell me otherwise.

Honestly though, please tell me if you mind. If you've just had it with my posts. I can take it.

'Til then? You'll be seeing my voice every single night. That's a promise.

So, see you in a few hours. Sorry?

Hummingbirds at our feeder this morning,

Simon the yellow cat jumping up onto the rail to get his "scratchin" behind his ears. A years-long morning tradition.

Us heading off to Starbucks for americanos and the Sunday NYT. The hummingbirds and cats will just have to take care of themselves.

Nice quiet start of what looks to be a beautiful day!

Have a good day everyone!

Thanks Melissa for giving this spirit to TPM.

I hope the beauty of your day continues.

Late to this, so I'm at the end of the list. No, don't stop. It's a place for some conversation about things other than the political. Ideas bounce around, people get to know a little about who we're talking with over the course of the day, most of the time in a much less combative form.

And if you do stop this, let's find a way to converse off-forum - I'm gettin' to like this...

I forgot to add - I missed it last night because I was out late at a very large fireworks show.

Great show, much too crowded for my tastes (that can be endurable for a short-term, though), got back late & very tired.

Sounds great! What was the occasion?

A local celebration of the lakes and river in Minneapolis. Bolstered by this being the MN Sesquicentennial.

Big show, loud and colorful. (It doesn't really count as loud unless you can feel your clothing move from the shell-breaks.)

I think that's one of the best descriptions of "loud" I've ever read. What a wonderful time you must have had, color me jealous!

I say BAH to narrow agendas. TPM is more interesting as a community with political thought as the overarching theme, rather than the narrow focus some demand.

Melissa, please don't stop. I don't use your posts all the time, but when I do, I always enjoy it. I would be disappointed if you left.

Aunt Sam, at top, had it exactly right, IMO. You are a "blessing to all and a curse to none."

Thank you so much for the hospitality of your friendship and the warm, inviting atmosphere of your thoughts.

Much appreciated, Ripper. Really.

Melissa, don't stop this. Please.

You're one of my favorites, Cricket. I hope you know that.

barefooted, you are one of my favorites. Please do not quit. I cannot always get here, but when I do, I enjoy your company and your sofa. Thanks.

Whenever you can stop by, you're always welcome. Just a place to come in from the cold ...

No.

Straight to the point. I like that.

This is my first post here, so I'm glad it's in a good cause. I agree with Cricket, LisB, Aunt Sam and all the rest. Keep on posting. There's definitely more to life than politics.

Welcome! Thank you, I hope to see your voice often.

I think the decision is unanimous, barefooted.

So make sure to put some Coors Light in the cooler and some goods tune on the stereo. I'll bring a rawhide bone for Sox, and a huge {{{HUG}}} from me.

Coors Light. Check.

Good tunes. Check.

I always look forward to your company ... but I think Sox might even be more excited!

See ya later -

top recommended post! congratulations Melissa!

I didn't do anything, a great group of people did. 'Rec or not, you're one of them. Thanks again.
