Please, Sir....Can I Have S'mores?

I'm so bummed.  My 8-year-old niece just had her first taste of S'mores last weekend, and I missed it.

I remember my first S'more.  I was out camping with my aunt and uncle in Virginia, and I was all of eight years old myself, when they handed me a Graham Cracker, a bar of Hershey's, and some marshmallows as I sat by the fire.

I watched the adults make theirs and figured my little hands could do the same.  And, sho nuff, they did.

I broke apart the Graham Cracker easily enough, utilizing its built-in perforations.

I broke the bits off the Hershey bar, using it's natural perforations too.

The marshmallows, however, were a bit cumbersome.  So big, white, and out-of-shape, they were.  So.....fluffy.

But I managed.

I was so proud of myself.  Made my own S'more all by myself, YAY!!

And it was so yummy!!!  The chocolate, so sweet, the cracker holding everything together, and the marshmallow just adding a bit of fluffy goo to it all.

YUM!!

And so I'm bummed.  I missed my 8-year-old niece's introduction to S'mores.

By the way, this entire post is nothing more than a parable.

YOU figure it out.

Heh.

IS it that we 'learn' and remember the experiences we had as a child?

Well, actually, Aunt Sammie, that's part of it.

But I was thinking more, um....about the perforations already baked in to the Graham Cracker, and the perfectly perfect perforations in the Hershey Bar. A bad parable, if one is so inclined to think that way, until you consider my thoughts about the white, puffy marshmallow bit of fluff and ooze.

Somewhat sort of kinda my twist on the New Yorker cover.

Sort of. Somewhat.

I hesitate to submit what I'm thinkin' - cuz it ain't pretty.

I, too, shall decline to opine - lest my more pervy recollects of that time/age override my superego.
;-)

I don't get it, but I bet it has something to do with The Clash. ;)

But seriously, you're a great writer LisB. Love every minute of all your posts. :)

Thanks, Wade. You rock.

You're right, I do rock. Not only am I going to Springsteen 4 times in the next 2 weeks, I also gave another $40 bucks to Barack Obama For President last night.

So, did your niece love them too? Can't imagine that she didn't. Whatever parable you were going for, the meat of your post remains. Sorry you missed her first taste.

I am too.

Okay, but don't laugh. Here's what I was aiming for.

The graham cracker, with it's perfect perforations, is the US.

The Hershey Bar, as a New Yorker type of satire joke gone bad, is Obama. With perfect perforations intact, of course.

The marshmallow.....?

"...consider my thoughts about the white, puffy marshmallow bit of fluff and ooze."

Okay, but it's bad (I'm tired, it's late) -

How about bloated, white people who think they are so 'kool' - who made a really big, sticky mess that must be cleaned up?

The marshmallow was McSame.

But, hey, you summed it up quite well on your own, Sammie.

And yes, of course this is to do with my niece. She really did have her first S'more last weekend. And I really did miss it.

And I really am sorry I missed it. And I really do feel that our country has perfect perforations baked into it right now, and that Obama is the perfectly sweet candidate right now, and that McCain is a fluffy pasty-white marshmallow, right now. Okay??

Very Nice. Quite creative.

Now could you do one about Jesse Jackson, Bush and Romney?

Oi. There is no campfire dessert that could sum all of them up and still taste sweet.

More Bailey's, Sammie. Bring on the Bailey's.

avatar

No, but somehow, using the theme 'roasting over the campfire' should give you some inspiration.

Steamed milk with your Baileys?

I see your point, and it's a good one. Just didn't want to overlook that your niece is on your mind. And that's good, too.
