I
caught Obama's speech in Berlin on CNN, and content-wise, he nailed
it.  It does look like the trip has worn him down, though.  He was
tripping over his words a bit, which he rarely does in speeches, but
there were no awkward moments, and he really nailed the ending.

There was nothing particularly substantive about the speech itself.  It basically amounted to a call for unity to meet the global challenges we face.  Perhaps the most noteworthy moment was when Obama called out NATO on Afghanistan, saying it was as important to them that the mission there succeeded as it was to us.  I'm sure the conservatives will comb the speech looking for something to complain about.  I'm putting my money on Obama's admission that sometimes America has failed to live up to its ideals, or maybe when he referred to himself as "a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world."  Cause we all know how much conservatives hate to admit they live in the same world as those commie Europeans.

Following the speech, CNN went live to a mini-press conference that John McCain was giving outside of a German restaurant in Ohio.  He talked about off-shore drilling in response to a question about Obama's speech today, McCain talked about off-shore drilling, which really seems to have become the single plank of his campaign.  This despite the massive oil spill just yesterday, which contributed to his canceling the speech he was set to give atop on oil rig (I'm sure that would have made for an excellent visual).

So, during this week where Obama was seen with world leaders and military experts in every single photo-op (except for today when he was instead seen speaking to a crowd of thousands), we've seen McCain riding in a golf cart, speaking in front of a cheese case (video link), and now speaking in front of a restaurant.  I suppose someone thought it was cute to have McCain speak in front of a German restaurant given Obama's speech in Berlin, but it was like one of those horribly cheesy jokes your uncle tells.  If you laugh at all, it's only because you're embarrassed for him.  Seriously, who the hell is running the ship over there in the McCain campaign?
