McCain Obtained Marriage License To Marry Cindy While He Was Still Legally Married To His First Wife.
Excerpt:
McCain, who is about to become the GOP nominee, has made several
statements about how he divorced Carol and married Hensley that
conflict with the public record.
In his 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.
"I
spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs
would allow," McCain wrote. "I was separated from Carol, but our
divorce would not become final until February of 1980."
An
examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not
sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court
petition that he and his wife had "cohabited" until Jan. 7 of that year
-- or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.
Although
McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his
divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he
wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an
Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married
to his first wife.

Better, but still nothing from you? Why bother if you're only going to post the article and not add to it? You know, make it a 'derivative work'?
Put a bit of yourself into it, start us talking about it, make it more than just an LA Times article.
Just trying to help you, if I may.

A big "So what" to the poster.
Are there not enough larger issues for which to question one's character as a leader?
July 11, 2008 11:50 AM | Reply | Permalink
Plenty of larger issues - it's just that Republicans so love to tout "family values."

Yes, I would say the larger issue is how he obviously feels about women. Remember this is the guy who called his wife a c*** on mike. Imagine if the guy is in a foreign country and he looses his famous temper and mouths off a bunch of nasty comments about his wife. The guy is simply NOT to be trusted. His anger is so unchecked he is not to be trusted with larger issues either. Imagine this guy with his finger on the nukes. He lacks self control to the degree that he is totally untrustworthy.

Not a fan of this line of attack, but it shows McCain is sure a maverick when it comes to marital fidelity.

It is real news, being reported in the LA Times.
Since the Republicans are all about family values and have tried their best to slime Michelle Obama, with made up crap, then I see no reason why we are supposed to bury the actual truth about their nominee's behavior.

here's why. Because keeping the debate on issues alone is destroying McCain. He's on the wrong side of so many issues even he doesn't want to talk about them.
Trust me, we'll get a lot more mileage out of McCain and Gramm and the "nation of big whiners" than we could on the peripheral character issues.
The Republicans are focusing on the character of Obama precisely because they can't win on the issues.
Let's not get distracted.

We can do both!

We can walk and chew gum at the same time. I see no reason to cede the morality ground to McCain. They will not cede a damn thing to us.
Just as we must contest them in all fifty states, we must contest them on all the issues, and especially try to make a dent in their monopoly of the values issues.
We made some gains in 2006 after some of their pious phonies were exposed. I see no reason why that should not still be in play.

Agreed. Does this mean his marriage to Cindy is illegal?
July 11, 2008 12:45 PM | Reply | Permalink
No. He did not marry her until after his divorce was final.(As far as I know...Wink Wink) Of course their could be a question about can you get a legal marriage license while you are still legally married to someone else, and if the license was not legal, then surely the marriage that illegal license was applied to, would indeed by of questionable legality.
I wonder why they were in such a hurry to get the license.

While other issues are more important to me, I recall that the story of Newt bringing divorce papers to his cancer-stricken wife resonated strongly with a lot of women I know.

And it may have very well been the thing that stopped Newt from running for President. He sure was longing to jump in this time.
One of the reasons that I wanted this to become known about McCain is because he is one of those Defense of Marriage Act phonies, that scapegoats gays and lesbians just to appeal to the Christo Fascist wing of his party.
Has anyone come across any reports about how a gang of Gays and Lesbians rounded up John McCain and forced him to cheat on his Traditional Marriage.
Surely that must be the only reason why he abandoned his first wife. It must be documented somewhere. Damn Gays And Lesbian Hooligans ruined John McCain's marriage.

this strategy here is lame. you folks are coming off as desparate and should stop now before you damage your credibility any further. i could care less about mccain's divorce nor do i recall him ever going out and claiming he had the corner market on family values. actually the opposie is true. the article stated mccain has always claimed the divorce was totally his fault. when you post stuff like this yoou come off as desparate. we were the same folks saying folks should leave bill clinton and his affairs out of front and center.

When your post is rife with misspellings, all lower case and poor grammar - you (not yoou) come off as just what you purport to be - ignorant!

Michelle. the self revealed PUMA, is so concerned about how we Obama supporters might be perceived. That is so touching. Well, now I must reconsider my position.
How can I resist sincere advice from a mangy flea bitten PUMA.

Not liam, we must respect Obama's be positive no disrespect mantra. And you can't possibly of gotten close enough to it to know about the flea bites! tsk. tsk.
