Lets flip flop on Obama and run Clinton.
Miss me?
I tried to tell you . We have a dead heat against a tortured, very unstable soul that has no clue what he said yesterday. Redford said if Obama losses, the dem party is history. I say both parties should be history but I digress.
How about that FISA vote? Webb said it is too complicated for you bloggers. Obama tossed you under the bus and called it compromise. Not too complicated, is it?
So, we have two corrupt Senators and the only thing that has changed is them. The Obama you voted for is not the same Obama you see now. The old bait and switch game.
So, at the convention, the delegates should switch to Clinton because you know what you will get. The same Clinton 18 million voted for.
Its not that complicated if you want to win this time. Its a no brainer.

Gotalife. Getalife. The primary is over. Either get on board and help us change this nation as Senator Clinton requested or move out of the way.

If you think both parties should be history, why would you support Clinton in the first place?
If you thought Hillary was going to ride to the White House with no bumps in the road if she got the Dem nomination, you were sorely mistaken.
That said, show a little bit of the class and grace your former candidate showed and get on the bus for the big win.

Kind of like how you're positive that Saint Obama would have voted against the Use of Force Resolution he pounded Senator Clinton for during the primaries? Except for that little problem that he wasn't even a U.S. Senator then. But it sure made a great story to say it at the time. Of course things weren't as complicated in the Spring of 2002 as they are today which is why Saint Obama has to flip-flop so much.

I do think these two claims go hand-in-hand. Anyone who claims that Obama would've supported AUMF can't claim that Clinton would still have opposed FISA, and anyone who claims that Obama would've still supported AUMF can't claim that Clinton would have voted for FISA.
Really, we can't know either way what they would've done if the situation had been different. I personally believe quite strongly that Obama still would've voted against AUMF if he had been in the Senate, and I also believe that Clinton would've still voted against FISA if she were the candidate. Then again, I would've thought that Obama would've voted against FISA, too, so what do I know?

Bah. That second part of that first paragraph should've said "…and anyone who claims that Obama would've still opposed AUMF…"

Definitely. The only reason she voted for it was to screw with Obama, that and because she had nothing to lose by voting against it. Just look to her Iraq vote, or her co-sponsoring the flag burning amendment, or any number of other votes she waffled on because she had no backbone. She can only vote the right way on votes that are completely safe, and this was one of them.

Gotalife... I've missed you. Humor has been seriously lacking on TPM. This is the first time in a while I've literally laughed out loud reading a post.
I'll admit that I actually agree with you -- for the first time ever -- on the party issue... both should be toast. This country should have taken up a multi-party system long ago.
The rest of your post is humorous. Sure, let's bring back Senator Clinton and produce a record turnout of Republicans and actually get McCain elected. Great idea. If you think Clinton would have turned out young voters, minority voters, independent voters (for Dem candidates), and first-time voters like Obama will, it's possible that you're delusional. Here in Missouri, we're hoping to elect a Democratic governor and cut into the Republican majorities in the State House and Senate. That will happen with Obama on the ticket. With Clinton, it wouldn't have.
Let's make a deal -- if Obama loses to McCain, I'll buy you a beer and say you were right. I'll even change my username to "gotalifewasright." If Obama wins, you buy me a beer, change your username to "obamaismyhero," and post a public mea maxima culpa.

July 15, 2008 2:47 PM | Reply | Permalink
Entirely possible, but whether I hate him or feel sorry for him, neither sounds fun.
Who am I kidding? I'm really looking forward to Obama dominating him during the debates, speeches, and other demonstrations of verbal skills. With Clinton, he had a challenge. This race seems kind of like the winner of MLB's World Series playing against the winner of the minor leagues whatever-they-call-it—except that here I'll actually enjoy it. (My support for Obama will win out against my empathy for McCain and his suffering and/or any hatred he might generate from me.)
July 15, 2008 3:01 PM | Reply | Permalink
Just so we're on the same page. You have seen McCain debate, right? I'm sure you've seen Obama and the way he dominated Clinton once she got him one on one, but have you actually seen McCain debate? Did you notice he has some things Obama woefully lacks, i.e., a sense of humor and humility? Also, with these old guys like McCain and Reagan, you have to watch out for their righteous anger -- not feigned anger, but real anger when someone crosses the line. McCain has drawn the line at love of country, honor, patriotism, hokey stuff like that. That means Obama is going to be inhibited in those areas. Domestic is where it's at for Obama.
July 15, 2008 5:05 PM | Reply | Permalink
I have, and I'll grant you (assuming this is part of your point) that debating is one of his stronger public speaking skills (which isn't saying a lot, however).
Of course, McCain was debating in the minor leagues, in my opinion. What looks like a good batter in the minor leagues will often get smoked if they play in the majors. (I'm assuming there—I don't actually watch baseball, and I know next-to-nothing about the actual minor leagues.)
Still, time will tell. I hope Obama waits a little longer to debate McCain, as I don't want us to OD on debates too early. (Also, it gives us, and him, a little refractory time to recover from the massive debate schedule in the primaries.)

Would Obama be on a short list for VP?
July 15, 2008 9:47 AM | Reply | Permalink
I think it is a wonderful idea. Hillary should be our nominee. As for demanding that she pick Obama as her VP running mate, I think we should let Hillary pick who ever she wants to. Should she pick Obama, I will still support the ticket. What to do with Michelle could complicate the matter, so she would be probably better off to pick someone else.
She will have to heal the rift with the African American community, so she should pick a running mate that would help with that. She should also pick someone who has a record of attracting a large national vote from African Americans. I think the ideal ticket would be Hillary/Jesse08.
Of course it would also help to sooth the ruffled feathers of the 18 million voters that backed Senator Obama if Senator Clinton were to persuade her followers to help Senator Obama pay off his campaign debts.
Fellow Obama supporters; lets be big about this. Urge Senator Obama to not even enter his name for nomination at the convention. That would be too confrontational and would not allow the wounds to heal. Really what would be the point of it. It would just be an ego trip for Senator Obama, but would not help Hillary to unite the party for the fall campaign. We must not be bitter and start all kinds of protest movements that promise to work on behalf of Senator McCain. Electing a Democrat is far too important to engage is petty recriminations.
Hillary deserves the nomination. The best woman won. Time for us to get over it.

Actually, the cadaver does have Obama sewed up on Iraq. Most voters even think McCain would do a better job of executing Obama's withdrawal plan than Obama will. Going to come down to character and the economy. Always does. Now, in retrospect, we can see that Kerry lacked character. So he got beat. If Obama has character, the voters will see that and elect him, because McCain is dying and tied to Bush. But if Obama doesn't have character, the voters will see that, too, and turn the Presidency over to McCain for four years. And just to be clear, I'm not saying one way or another about Obama's character. He either really has it or he really doesn't. I'm saying about American voters. They know who has it and who doesn't. Who would have believed Bush had more character than Kerry, until we got to know Kerry in the course of the national campaign?

Well, you see, that's how you end up saying people cling to religion and guns and vote against their own interests because of their values. That's how you end up being called elitist. You have to be able to accept the superior wisdom of the electorate as an electorate, even if it goes against you. I could easily argue that if it's possible for a clown like Bush to fool a majority of American voters, it's much more possible that a brilliant politician like Obama fooled a majority of the super delegates to obtain the nomination.

Senator Clinton received nor read no intelligence reports prior to Spring 2002? Well that's some amazing news, why didn't that come out in the primaries? Because it's not true of course. But Saint Obama's disciples need to parrot these types of lies in order to keep from being disillusioned.
Senator Clinton did receive a number of briefings and voted her conscience. Saint Obama was a first term Illinois State legislator who discovered a neat little trick called voting "present" which meant he didn't actually have to take any positions on matters but could go out and say he had an opinion.
Which of these two candidates is qualified on day one?

She didn't read the NIE. And it did come up in the primaries. It was one of the many reasons she lost the nomination. Her vote on the AUMF was the only notable thing she did in her eight year career of complete passivity and non-leadership in the Senate, and she fucked it up.
Deal with it.
