Goodbye TPM, Daily Kos, Huffington Post
So I am going to make this brief. I am taking a break from TPM, Daily Kos, HuffPo and perhaps Countdown. Why, you may ask- because all this Obama moving to the center BS. FISA, gun control, child rapists OH MY- any reasonable person could agree with Obama's positions on all of these issues- but I guess that it is a little too much to ask from the left. You should remember what Obama said in 04- there is no blue or red America, only the United States of America. Get off of your high horse and quit hyperventalating. There are people out there who are really really struggling, no job, no house, no money- NOTHING. And I'm not saying Obama would wave a wand and they would have mansions, all I am saying is that he is hell of a lot better than McCain. If you don't want to vote for him over FISA,Guns, or any issue that tingles your leg- fine, but there will be two other people who vote for him on health care, jobs, and education. Sad, to say now I know how the Hillary supporters felt when they would come on these websites. Some, not all, of you would rather cut your nose off to spite your face. It's easy for us since, most of you are like me college educated in grad school or the work force making decent money and sipping on lattes, but some people don't have that luxury. So, I must bid you farewell. Maybe I come back, Maybe I don't.Maybe you care, maybe you don't. But, we all should remember that no one person, group, party owns Obama- he is his own person. If you don't like it suck on eggs. And people wonder why the left can't win any presidential elections- too fucking emotional. GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very well said. This latest round of nonsense makes all of the sites I visit sound too much like the MSM for comfort. Covering Obama's every move is fine but screaming bloody murder is ridiculous.
No one was more outraged that the congressional dems caved on telecom immunity than me. Yes, I was disappointed that O didn't oppose the cave in but let's get real. He will be a great president but thinking that he can be all things to all of us is pretty stupid and that's how we've been acting lately.
Don't stay away too long, graduate student. We need you back!

GBCW!!!
Policy position is more important than person worship.
Everyone is wrong on occasion.
If we're to be the bosses of our government then even Obama must be held accountable for even the slightest deviation from anyone's view of what is correct.
That's how government works.
Don't like knowing how to make sausage?
Then by all means shut your eyes and stop your ears from the awful reality of how good accountable government works.
But don't complain if your voice is ignored.

do you have any idea where those rather broad brushstrokes come from ? yeah, I thought so.

I hate to tell you this, bud, but part of the political process is letting your "representatives" know when they have done something that you like, or something that you DISLIKE, as well. It's called "feedback" in systemic terms. Check out some literature on self-correcting systems, and see if you can find any successful systems models that don't require the use of feedback.
Just because we like him better than McCain, doesn't mean that he shouldn't strive to do his best, and part of his best should be listening to people. And, as he's running for president, he should be showing his LEADERSHIP ABILITIES off, shouldn't he? He hasn't lead on this, and he should.
He needs to show that if someone else is going to start a fight that can't be stopped, that he's willing to fight for what's right, and win.

Be an idealist.
Vote Green.
Vote Socialist.
Vote Social Democratic.
If you have an option in your area, you know what to do.

I'll vote for those folks when they're electorally viable in my area. If they'd ever ask, I'd help them become electorally viable.
Most of them seem content to be non-benchers, though.

I don't even get what you are saying, college educated that I am. We all are going to vote for Obama, why would you think otherwise? (OK, minus a few trolls that have seemed to disappear somewhat.) We also want Obama to win to help get medical insurance affordable for all, give back to the poor and middle classes, make corporations keep jobs here or suffer repercussions, step up to slow global warming, stop wars, to just name a few.
If you are reading Huff Post, just don't. The comments are rude and at time immature. Daily KOS has a wonderful comment today about Obama's handling of Clark.
Finally, FISA is about Obama, but as a constitutional lawyer, he of all people should lead the way to protect the very article that made this nation. And depending on your age, you might not have any idea how far downstream we have gone in giving up personal freedoms and privacy in this country. So yes, that is a big issue, but I am confident Obama will straighten things out once he gets in the White House.
Gun control in and of itself is not a big deal. However, did you see yesterday where all the people flying now think they are allowed to carry guns on planes.......see, once you open Pandora's box, it is just the beginning. And as for Child Rapist, any one will tell you it costs a hell of a lot more to imprison someone than kill them in prison, and frankly, if I had to choose life in prison or the death penalty, I would want to die. But the message we are sending the world, where several nations have stopped this barbaric practice, is a sad one. Enough of that.
Politics is hardball. I ran for city council, the only woman to do so in an all white male run government, and it is not fun. But I didn't give up. So hang in there. And good luck.

I agree with your post, Grad Student.
I did the same thing between the OH/TX and Pennsylvania Primaries. 6 weeks of the MSM with nothing real happening, 6 weeks for them to discuss in detail their particular biases and views(as if their opinions automatically applied to every American).
It was hard to escape the MSM's clutches even then, and i think this was the time of Rev. Wrong's big, huge, important press conference. And i was reminded why i had taken the break in the first place.
Take the time off. Volunteer for the Obama campaign, spend time with friends, watch the clouds go by. All these things will have more impact than trying to drown out the cacophony of indignation now sweeping the 'net.
Dont worry itll all still be here when youre batteries are recharged. It was for me.

I am sympathetic with what you are saying. My heart is with TPM, Huffington Post, Kos, and Countdown, but my head is with the more cautious and pragmatic Obama. We need to be realistic. The country, since Reagan, has been a little to the right of center. If Washington, D.C. just moved to the center, that would be a huge improvement (and I think Obama can actually move the country a little to the left of center.) At this time in history, that's the best we can hope for. Blogs have much potential for improving the political landscape. Their great danger is that too many people spout off with their sacred convictions and call people who disagree with them idiots or worse. I quit visiting DailyKos, not because of the excellent posts by Marcos Moulitsas and other lead writers, but because of the nasty tone of posts by anonymous visitors to the site. People who aren't willing to compromise and - at times settle for second or third best - are naive and unrealistic. They actually hurt the causes they believe in.

I agree with the post but I'll stay here. All three blogs stay on this administration' follies. That satisfies me more than the campaign. No president keeps his promises. If he does they aren't recognizable and watered down. I think Graduate Student should take the blogs comments about our candidate and Obama's declarations with a grain of salt. When push comes to shove, the last weeks of October, we all will be on the bandwagon singing the same tune. It is just imperative we get a Democratic president along with as many gains in congress as possible.

I don't agree with Obama's FISA stance, but that does not mean I won't vote for him... I think it's a stretch to say that there is a wholesale defection from Obama because of FISA, from TPM, KOS, Huffpo, etc...
I am puzzled by this new "revelation" on FISA, but I will try to understand Obama's position and deal with it the best way I can, by making my voice heard on this site as well as others.
