Colombia - What a Coincidence!

avatar

For those of us who wondered why McCain went to Colombia, now we have a pretty good idea.  The rightist Colombian government with American assistance rescues Ingrid Betancourt six years after her capture, along with three American contractors and some others.  And the rescue just happens to happen while McCain is in Colombia.  As Ionescu said, Quelle coincidence.  Surely the touching photo op of McCain with the rescued Americans is next up.

My thoughts precisely. The Columbian President is in touch with the White House today. The Columbian President calls McCain on his plane. How obvious can one get.

FWIW, bravo for Mrs Betancourt. Hers was a prolonged and dreadful ordeal.

That said, quite a coincidence indeed.

It certainly seems that McCain's camp had some knowledge beforehand of this rescue attempt. How? And if so, from whom?

Watch the polls in the days to come.

His campaigns lobbyist ties to Columbia, DUH!

Here's ABC's take on the 'coincidence': http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=3105455&page=1

I know that Columbia and Bush have close ties, but how close can we get before what we have is foreign meddling in our election? Or is it the White House pulling the strings? I wonder if we'll have a string of good tidings everywhere McSame visits?

Thanks for the link, but ABC doesn't offer much additional info.

What miraculous event will happen in Mexico now that McCain has graced it with his presence?

Remember that John McCain is going around touting the importance of trade agreements with Columbia (which Obama opposes for good reasons) and Mexico, etc. This the impetus for this trip! And maybe, just maybe.......(Fill in the blanks).

Interesting analysis! But - hey folks - it's spelled COLOMBIA!

Just sayin' : : :
I know, it's only one letter, it's not like anybody wrote Archanteena or Chilly (or Hatey).

Even if this was planned, I think it backfired because McCain's trip is overshadowed. The story out of Colombia is the freed hostages, not John McCain's visit. When McCain's mentioned in these reports, it's in the middle or the bottom, not at the top or in the headlines.

Can we trade McCain for Betancourt? He probably won't notice.

We'll have to throw in Manny Ramirez and a player to be named later.

How good are Joe Lieberman's ball skills?
