Campagning for Barack Obama: A Chance for Bill Clinton's Rehabilitation

avatar

Former president Bill Clinton only yesterday indicated that he will be ready to campaign for Barack Obama whenever he needs him. Using his unquestionably effective role in Hillary's (subsequently abortive) campaign as a criterion for determining his probable impact on Obama's  interms of concrete and definable outcomes, there is every reason for a positive anticipation of an outcome beneficial to the Obama campaign particularly in the rural areas and among the so-called Reagan Democrats where Bill is said to have been especially effective. And, conversely, Clinton also has a lot to gain interms of his rehabilitation among a critical Democratic costituency including Blacks. He has an opportunity to salvage his almost diminished image among this group, paving the way for his wife's reintegration fully into the Democratic fold as well following their campaining style that left a large segment in the ranks of the party utterly disaffected and less disposed towads the Clintons.

The best thing Bill Clinton can do for Obama (besides staying home and keeping his mouth shut) is stumping in Arkansas.

The Appalachian people who voted for Hillary were mainly voting for WJ and the Clinton name, IMO, and that would be the best use of him for Obama, I believe.

I suppose you think he should come crawling up your driveway to lick your foot? Never has such a large pretentious lot felt they were owed so much.

Hey, read the Lizza story, look at the FISA vote - Obama was a fairy tale, and then we woke up. If only you'd listened to Bill at the time, but now you're just upset that Santa doesn't really exist.

Well... you MAY be right about Santa.

But that's ok. 'Cause THIS Christmas.... OBAMA Claus is definitely coming to MY house.

I know 'cause I sent him the 50 bucks already.

No, Desider. We don't think Bill Clinton should come crawling up anyone's driveway to lick anyone's foot. We DO think that WJC should take responsibility for the divisiveness he caused during the primaries, and the inartful words and smear tactics he employed in his attempts to diminish/destroy Obama's presidential bid.

There's lots of blame to go around for the acrimonious campaigns, and Bill should do his part to heal the wounds, just as Obama and Hillary are doing theirs. NO ONE needs to kiss anyone's butts or lick anyone's feet.

Your display of spiteful spleen would be much better spent on attacking McCain and the repub trolls who seek to sow hate and discontent on our progressive websites. Unless, of course, you are a member of the troll nation yourself.

Hey, folksm leave Desidero alone: he's holding his breath until he truns blue.

Many of Clinton's comments were wildly taken out of context by Obama supporters. Remember when they spread the notion that Clinton has called Obama's campaign a "fairy tale" when in fact Clinton was referring to his Iraq positions?

avatar

That's ridiculous. HRC's comments were not taken out of context by the Obama campaign. HRC and her guru Mark Penn destroyed her campaign when she campaigned like a republican and denigrated a fellow Democrat. Don't blame Obama for HRC sorry ass campaign. Don't blame us either for not wanting to extend the Bush/Clinton dynasty. We are sick of Bushes and Clintons.

Many of Clinton's comments were taken wildly out of context?????? Do YOU remember BITTER-gate? Do you remember people-clinging-to-guns-and-religion-gate? How about Rev. Wright's statements being taken out of context and being used to demonize Obama? Do you remember "Hillary is likeable enough?" Is context only important for those who you support and not for others?

You, truthseeker, are one of those people who suffer from severe selective-memory-itis. Were you defending Obama when his opponents were taking his comments out of context? Or, Rev. Wright's sermon sound-bytes? If not, your argument is beneath contempt and deserves no respect.

What exactly was out of context with clinging to guns and religion? The only issue was Obama got quoted saying it, not the context in which he meant it.

I'd have thought he and Hillary could be a great help in the rural areas of the battlegrounds. They might not be able to get those people actually voting for Obama, but they might be able to have them so disenamoured of McCain as to keep them at home. It could make all the difference in Ohio.

You are damn right that's probably what is going to happen. Your take on the probable impact of Bill Clinton on the Obama campaign is quite far-sighted and illuminatimg.
