AN OPEN LETTER TO MICHELLE OBAMA

avatar

Dear Ms. Obama:

My granddaughter asked me to take her to see you today at the Women's Forum in Kansas City!  She's a 12 year old, bi-racial, child of a single FATHER.   (Sometimes unfortunately, it's not the father's that are missing in thier children's life.)   We didn't have a ticket to get in.   It didn't matter to her.   She just wanted the chance to see you in person.    So we went.

When I asked a campaign worker where we should stand to get a glimpse of you as you entered the building, we were told to follow him.   He took us inside and seated us on the front row.   I will never forget how her eyes glittered when you entered.   She pointed out that you were taller in person & had a great dress on.    Then you began to speak.....and she began to listen.

She listened to you and she listened to the other women on the panel & in the audience.   She heard women from all social levels and all walks of life talk about the problems that women face.   I think it made it easier to understand why her father so often says, "we don't have the money for that".   She also realized that you don't have to sit back and do nothing but accept your life as it is.   She has questions for me about the event, but she want's to think about them for a while.   I hope I can answer them.

I think it was an important event for her.   She saw professional women who believe they can make a difference....and I think that may have made a difference in my granddaughters life.   Thank you for that!   Win or lose in November....today you made a difference in one person's life.

BTW:

My granddaughter also wanted me to point out that she got a hug from Ms. Obama at the end!

I should also add as her grandfather, I learned a little bit about women's issues as well.

Nice post, thank you. And thank you for
taking the little girl to a political
gathering where she got to see Michele.
She will do the White House proud.

Good for you and your grand-daughter. And thanks for reminding us all that there are both single fathers and single mothers.

Beautiful story.

A lifelong inspiration for your granddaughter.

What a great report, thanks!

Sometimes I think we have important appointments and the angels work out the details. Your granddaughter wanted to go. That was her part. You agreed to take her. That was your part. A campaign worker, who I'm sure doesn't routinely give away seats----that person had an appointment with a young girl too. And of course Michelle did. Everybody kept their important appointments today. When the Universe works that hard at something, there is usually a very good reason for it. Blessings as you and your granddaughter discover what that reason might be.

Great comment to an equally great blog.

Thanks for the nice story. My daughter attended an appearance by Michelle back last winter. She took her baby with her to that and Michelle came up and talked to her for quite awhile. Michelle does a great job of connecting with people.

Thanks for sharing that. I think it's fabulous that
kids in our country are paying attention to the political process and engaged. I brought my 13 year old son to the Obama rally here, he was so interested and impressed. I couldn't care less about politics at that age. I think we have a generation coming up that will do well for our country.

Nice

Recommended, heartily. Hopefully, you can take her again to see her in Washington on 1/20/09.

How wonderful that you, her GRANDfather (!!!!) took her to see a panel of professional women speak about women's issues. You win feminist of the day award. Thank you from a woman who had no responsible men in her life while growing up.

Yay, I got to give the 100th rec -- and deservedly so!

I always like to compare the rec:comment ratio on blogs.

This one's running at about 6:1. A sure sign of a great blog post. :-)

I truly believe that great social change has come to this country and that Obama presidency will help a great deal. I am an old white woman married to an Mexican-American citizen (all the brothers served in WWII). I am grandmother to mixed race black kids who are very special. I have seen and heard a lot of B.S. over the years but I have also seen real change.

Let's hope that the miserable economic territory we are entering doesn't damage the progress we have made.

Every generation that dies off takes its share of racists and bigots with it. Put your faith in the youth of this country to save it.

Dang, I just got all choked up and I've got a phone conference in about two minutes.

LOL...I read TPM *during* my phone conferences. (Love that mute button!) :-)

To Mrs. Nobama,

Please shut your filthy mouth up! For people who qualify for $600 refund, it means a great deal!

"That Diamond-Studded Tax Rebate
While we’re on the economy, Michelle Obama was on the stump this week in Michigan, just after she and the Obama girls had a mischievous twinkle in their “Access Hollywood” interview poking fun at Mr. Obama’s 10-year-old slacks, his weathered belt and shoes they’d definitely like to replace.
She talked about her love of clothes in the interview – and yes, one female reporter recently described her in a nearly backless black dress as “slamming,” and another dress she wore for “The View” is on eBay for less than $200. (But we don’t think it was the Obama-girl fashionistas that prompted the presidential candidate to say, in hindsight, that the family won’t be granting more interviews.)
Then again….
During her talk in Pontiac, Michigan, she waxed on about how the $600 rebate given to taxpayers this year to offer relief to consumers is a bit of a short-term fix.
“You’re getting $600. What can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything. But maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn’t pay down every bill every month.
“Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check. And then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings.”
Now, that was a joke. She didn’t come up with a $600 price tag for a single pair of earrings on “The Price is Right” or anything. But watch for her comment, and it’s already been suggested around the Web, to be misconstrued as a bit elitist."

Aimey, Aimey
How does your garden grow?
"With screams and yells
And go to hells
For Mr. and Mrs O."

Now go stamp your foot at some other big bad mean candidate's wife! They are all oh so vulgar and common.

ps - your dear darlings Karl & Johnny will give you a bonus of 99 troll poop points with your next hate pill.

Dear Aimey:

I have to congratulate you. Out of over 50 positive comments on three different websites, only you had to go negative. (And I posted this on the local kansas city Fox Blog). As one man on Fox put it, "I could have found a better role model but I am glad it was a good experience for your granddaughter"

You see the important part of the post was that a little girl became interested in the political process that shapes her nation. It really had very little to do with the policies of Sen. Obama.
Long after Sen. (or Pres. Obama) is no longer relevant...that child will still be interested in making her country better. Or at least she will be, if she doesn't become jaded by the hate spewed into our political process by people like you.

As the saying goes, "May you get everything you deserve out of this life"!
