Why Obama & Dean Fear 4 Million!

avatar

A Message From An Independent Conservative.

This weekends PR stunt or "unity" fest underscores a problem for the presumptive Democratic nominee. The problem can be summed up in one word: PUMA.

Since the end of the Democratic primaries the DNC has been plagued by this growing group of Hillary Clinton supporters who have pledged to vote against Barack Obama and reform the Democratic Party that is clearly more interested in power than moving the country forward. In recent weeks Democratic leadership has bombarded the press with a message of unity and a fall-back to the talking points meant to divide this country such as abortion.

So how much of problem does PUMA and Just Say No Deal represent to the Obama campaign?

A huge one and here's why:

PUMA and Just Say No Deal are comprised of Hillary Clinton's most ardent supporters and represent what Richard Nixon once referred to as the "Silent Majority". They are middle class values voters, the "Reagan Democrats", who position trust, personal and religious beliefs, a profound love for their country, and political education at the forefront of their political decision making. The PUMAS embody the fighting spirit of our founding fathers, driven by a belief that our country, not our political parties, should come first.

Immediately following the Montana primaries, the Obama campaign, DNC, and Obama supporters immediately began their attempt to win back the votes of the Just Say No Deal community. Understanding that this group could lead to potential disaster for the "presumptive nominee" the Obama campaign turned the politics of "division and distraction" to win back their vote. With hours of the primaries Obama supporters websites lit up with stories viciously attacking John McCain as a womanizer who abandoned his ex-wife for petty reasons and pursuit of a more attractive companion. The stories manipulated the relationship between McCain and former Wife (who has supported McCain in every campaign) and focused on a relationship strained by horrible personal tragedies that would forever-change anyone in their positions. The stories quickly faded, but displayed a disturbing reality that the Obama campaign would stoop to the lowest levels to win back support of the Puma Community.

In the weeks that have followed, the Obama campaign and his supporters have bombarded Puma Network bloggers with messages and stories of "how a McCain presidency would overturn Roe v. Wade". Of all the campaign issues that the Obama campaign could have chosen, they chose to garner support from the PUMA campaign by launching a campaign of fear-mongering surrounding the most divisive political issue of our time.

The message of unity from the Democratic Leadership has unfortunately worked with a majority of Hillary's supporter, but has failed with the quarter of Hillary's supporters who hold the power to destroy an Obama candidacy. The media, with few exceptions, has ignored this group and overlooked their strength; but Barack Obama and Howard Dean know they are in trouble.

Mr. Obama and Mr. Dean understand that Obama needs the 25% of Disengaged Clinton supporter to win the general election; a group that represents 4 million voters who would have easily changed the outcome of every election since 1988. Obama and Dean know that they must find a way to bring in new voting blocks because his base of support is simply tapped out. This Democratic primary season has brought forth the largest turnout since 1972. But as we learned in 1972, the groups who overwhelmingly support Obama are not likely to produce growth in the general election. This reality is reflected in the Obama campaigns attempts to now shore up support with the gay community and evangelical communities at the same time (it will be interesting to see how he handles this pandering).

Why Does Obama Fear 4 million?

What Keeps Obama & Dean Awake At Night?

The Biggest Fear

Dean and Obama, more than anything, fear that the PUMA and Just Say No Deal Community will renew this compact and profound idea that "We The People" not "We The Democrats or Republicans"control this nation.

The independence and liberties that this nation has embraced and embodied for 232 years will never survive if we allow party unity to overpower the American spirit. Pumas understand that and Howard Dean and Barack Obama hope that the rest of us don't. So this upcoming independence day, embrace the beliefs of our founding fathers and when you hear the call for party unity, JUST SAY NO DEAL.

I hate to quibble, but PUMA is actually 4 words.

Have I mentioned yet that McCain voted to convict Clinton during the impeachment trial?

4 million strong!? Can I please see some proof that PUMA et al is this large? I've explored their collective web sites and the posting seem to be by the same 50 people.

Personally I think Roe V Wade is a bad argument. In fact I don't think we should be making any argument at all.

I have come to discover over the past several weeks that any reasonable argument falls on deaf ears. It's not that there aren't valid reasons to vote for Obama over McCain, but you folks have completely stopped listening. It's as if you have all stuck your fingers in your ears and are going la la la la la la la la. So, If McCain appeals to you as the next president of the US fine, vote for him.

We loose, we loose I'm tired of worrying about the PUMA crowd. Personally I think your so called 4 mill. can be replaced.

You worried about the PUMA crowd? Seriously, it's, at most, two or three hundred bloggers with a chemical imbalance. They're less of a concern that LaRouchies and 9/11 Truthers.

Please tell me that "J Brown" is Judith Brown...that would be so perfect. Too, too perfect. And I prefer to call these PUMA people as WATB. Hey! Maybe I should start a blog. Then I can point out how many of these so-called Democrats are actually registered Independents and Republicans. How many of them do PR for the GOP and have been doing it for years...yes, I think I will.

Michelle, please stop. I am running out of money to contribute to the troll bowl on your behalf. But maybe others would like to:

Michelle, you loveable Republican weasel! Enjoy spending your 4th of July in a frenzy of cynical ill-will!

PUMA is a handful of hardcore trolls on the interwebz organized by Republican operatives and a pornographic web site operator. It's not a movement. Nobody cares.

Also, Obama leads McCain by every metric. He's set up for the biggest electoral vote win since 1996. If you guys have the "power to destroy an Obama candidacy," you sure suck at using it.

avatar

Clintons4McCain has posted they have 1781 members.

Their mission statement is rife with Obama slurs as well as praise for McCain (showing a smiling picture of HRC and McCain together) and alleges, "She (HRC)is hoping that her supporters understand that the ONLY way that she can run again in 2012 is if Barack Obama is humiliated by an impressive defeat in November."

It's a mish mash of basic anti-Obama (NoBama) rhetoric and weaves in all HRC's campaign anti-Obama statements.

When accessing this site you also get a Warning! from Microsoft that this is likely a Phishing Site.

All these sites (PUMA, JustSayNoDeal, etc.) all have the same theme and provide links for each other.

Sad. Very Sad.

He's set up for the biggest electoral vote win since 1996.

Dukakis was set for one of those too when he was up 13 - 17 points back in the day.

avatar

Ah yes, the ole Dukakis analogy, last refuge of the desperate Obama-basher.

Sorry Indiex, unlike Dukakis, Obama does not plan to stop campaigning after the Democratic convention, nor is he attempting to replace a wildly popular outgoing president.

On top of that, Dukakis' legendary lead consisted of a single poll (using 1988 methodlogy) taken immediately after the convention. Obama's lead has been sustained for several weeks and has been confirmed by multiple polls using a diverse array of methodologies.

While it's certainly possible that Obama could yet lose, the fundamentals are the best we've seen for a Democrat since 1996 and are far superior to what Dukakis faced in 1988.

Of course, the Obama haters will continue to dream, but dreams are all you're likely to get.

avatar

Of course, what's more relevant:

PUMA claims to have the "power" to deny Obama the presidency. They are currently failing to do so, thus whether Obama faces a disaster down the road or not, it is demonstrably the case that crazy internet trolls simply do not have that much influence. If he can sustain a 5 - 15 lead at the height of their fury, it's evident that these few hundred losers are about as relevant as a dead possum.

avatar

Yep. Trash talk wins elections every time. It's tried and true. If you can only trash talk enough to a group of fellow supplicants, the election is in the bag. Slam dunk, baby. Dead bang. It's over.

Buy a fucking clue. Borrow the money if you have to.

Are you defending PUMA, or just playing devil's advocate? I can understand the latter, but definitely not the former.

So I went to the PUMA blog and posted a series of well reasoned rebuttals to some thing they had about dean and donna brazile. apparently my comments are awaiting moderation, though about 50 other comments have gone through during the time I posted 5...
gee, I wonder if they really care about dissent or not?

PUMA is more of an apt name for the small amount of losers, now caterwauling in the political wilderness, than the founders and members realize. Here is a description of the Puma cat, and notice how much it resembles the mangy political PUMA strays.

This powerful predator roams the Americas, where it is also known as a puma, cougar, and catamount. This big cat of many names is also found in many habitats, from Florida swamps to Canadian forests.

Mountain lions like to prey on deer, though they also eat smaller animals such as coyotes, porcupines, and raccoons. They usually hunt at night or during the gloaming hours of dawn and dusk. The cats employ a blend of stealth and sudden power, stalking their prey until an opportunity arrives to pounce, then going for the throat with a powerful bite. They will hide large carcasses and feed on them for several days.

Mountain lions once roamed nearly all of the United States. They were prized by hunters and despised by farmers and ranchers who suffered livestock losses at their hands. Subsequently, by the dawn of the 20th century, mountain lions were eliminated from nearly all of their range in the Midwest and Eastern U.S.—though the endangered Florida panther survives.

Today, whitetail deer populations have rebounded over much of the mountain lion's former range and a few animals have appeared in more eastern states such as Missouri and Arkansas. Some biologists believe that these big cats could eventually recolonize much of their Midwest and Eastern range—if humans allow them to do so. In most western U.S. states and Canadian provinces, populations are considered sustainable enough to allow managed sport hunting.

Mountain lions require a lot of room—only a few cats can survive in a 30-square-mile (78-square-kilometer) range. They are solitary and shy animals, seldom seen by humans. While they do occasionally attack people—usually children or solitary adults—statistics show that, on average, there are only four attacks and one human fatality each year in all of the U.S. and Canada.

populations are considered sustainable enough to allow managed sport hunting.

So very true...

Sorry. No one fears you or your imaginary four million.

Well, except maybe in that deeply personal way that typically entails locksmith bills and restraining orders.

This Kool-Aid has a funny flavour.

The sad, sad truth is THIS is the very reason why Democrats have only won 3 out of the last 10 Presidential Elections. There are PLENTY of conservatives who don't like John McCain (I know, I talk to some of them when I'm fund raising for "The Heritage Foundation", hey it's a paycheck). But they wouldn't dare vote against him. Republicans understand the difference between winning and getting most of what you want and Losing and getting nothing that you want. Some Democrats can get SO caught up in getting EXACTLY what we want, the way we want it, that we'd rather lose and say I told you so.

Did you hear any Republicans screaming after delegates were stripped away from Florida, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Michigan, and South Carolina. NOPE. Do you hear any Republican Anger Speech for McCain talking about climate change or stem cell research. NOPE Do you hear any Republicans forming McCain counter groups because of his stance on Immigration. NOPE

Moveon.org went after Obama for his reversal of support for the FISA compromise. Do any of you think the Swiftboaters will go after McCain for his reversal of support for the Webb GI Bill?

Hopefully Obama is able to garner the kind of support that will make him PUMA and FISA proof.

[Sigh] Not "biggest fear", Michelle dear, "biggest annoyance."

BTW, Any "independent conservative" that really believes his dogma would never have touched Hillary Clinton with a ten foot crucifix. She stands for Universal Health Care, Reproductive Choice, and Progressive Taxation, just to name a few. What type of "independent conservative" can get behind that?

Hee! PUMA. A threat. Right.

My lastest "gee, that's silly" thought is how they chose a cat acronym. Pretty odd, for an organization supposedly supporting a feminist. For YEARS, women have been noting cat references as one of the many ways in which language is used agaisnt women--younger women are sex kittens, supposedly "older" (meaning middle aged) women with a sex life are cougars, women who "misbehave" are catty, etc.

So PUMA. Riiiiight. Pro-women my fluffy tail.

Ahahaha! I was at the Unity rally in New Hampshire, and if that's any indication of the way things are going, then I'm fucking psyched!

The honorary mayor of Unity, Ken Hall, introduced Clinton and Obama. He said,

"I have a little confession: I'm a lifelong Republican. I voted for John McCain in the primary, but I may be part of this change myself," an obvious indication that he himself is leaning towards voting for Obama. How brave of him, considering that Unity is in the heart of New Hampshire's McCain territory. It was a truly wonderful moment.
