I changed to VOIP because of this retro immunity crap last year. Wrote why I was cancelling on the Verizon bill so that they knew it was a protest action. But sadly, I can't cancel my Verizon cell phone.
Why not?
Well I need it for work and I can't carry my home phone with me everywhere :)
But you don't have to have Verizon service. You may have to get a new plan and a new provider... maybe a new phone, but if you are protesting is that too much?
Nope I would if I could, but my cell phone is provided by my company. Plus I'm not sure if there is a cell provider that didn't cave to the gov't.
It's about time to renew my cell phone contract. Despite that they provide my cell, land, and Internet, all in a package deal, I'm willing to switch from AT&T if I can find another service that *didn't* cave to the Bush administration on their warrentless wiretaps. But here's my problem.
The only phone company I can find that DIDN'T is Qwest--and they don't supply service in Texas.
Does anyone have a recommended list of Telecom providers? Because I'll only go so far to vote with my pocketbook--I'll switch providers if I can, but I won't just stop using landline, Internet, or cell.
Check out credomobile.com (formerly Working Assets). They are a progressive phone company that has opposed FISA and probably your best bet. (They are like the MoveOn.org of phone companies!)
Hopefully they cover Texas? Good luck..
Oh, THANK YOU, oakviolin! I just checked them out, and since they use Sprint's network (though they aren't Sprint), they do have a pretty good coverage. I LOVE the idea of a phone company that exists to support progressive causes, and will do some serious comparison b/t them and my own plan. Unless they're seriously more expensive, I should be a CredoMobile user within the week.
Yay! You're welcome, glad to have helped :) I've been w/ then for 6 years and have been stoked to have part of my bill go towards causes I care about. And their service & coverage has improved over the years as well, as they've grown & become more viable.
