What Obama"s speach tells us about his plans for Clinton and the Vice Presidency
Here is Obama on Clinton:
"And you can rest assured that when we finally win the battle for
universal health care in this country, she will be central to that
victory. When we transform our energy policy and lift our children out
of poverty, it will be because she worked to help make it happen. Our
party and our country are better off because of her, and I am a better
candidate for having had the honor to compete with Hillary Rodham
Clinton."
Now, what type of position does that sound like? In my opinion, the answer is definitely not VP, it is senator.

There's no question that he doesn't want her on the ticket. The question is if he has the sense to put here on the ticket.

I think she'd serve better in his cabinet on Health and Family issues. Or even on the Supreme Court.

I agree and find it kind of funny. IMO this really comes a factor if the polls show that she would help him win. If he doesn't pick her under those circumstances, some things that will NOT be hearing from the Obama echo chamber at TPM: Obama is all about "me, me, me", Obama cares more about his ego than the good of the Party.... fell free to come up with your own.

Even her most ardent surrogates are saying tonight that Obama doesn't need Clinton to win certain states. Rendell said that absolutely Obama could win Pennsylvania without her.

You might want to discuss this with the 12.5 million people who live there first.

I'm not saying for sure that she will help him. We'll see what the polls say.

It's been said he'd be happy to put her on SCOTUS but it's not enough limelight for her.

How would this make any sense? Does she seem like a Supreme Court Justice? Would it make best use of her skills? Why not make her top brain surgeon or shuttle commander or commander of the Armed Forces in Iraq?
Hillary's skill is in policy and process. It's on issues she worked on since college. The problem with you people is you've never been able to bring yourself to actually look at her out of all your demonizing and figure out who she is. Which would give you a much better understanding of why people support her and what they might expect.

I thought that too when I heard the speech. All day I heard pundits prattle on about how Obama really needs to pick hillary as the vp, for hours they went on. Then there was no mention of the very clear statement she made about her role in the future.
Good catch

It may not be about her becoming VP, but it was definitely about more than sending her back to the Senate empty-handed.
It reminded me of the praise John Edwards heaped on Clinton during his speech endorsing Obama.
