TPM-aholics Update, or, Party Time!
Hi all,
It's been a while since the last post about our TPM-aholics group over at my.barackobama.com, so I hope you'll forgive this intrusion into your regularly-scheduled political debate. (By the way, if you haven't joined the group and would like to, you may do so here:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/TPM-aholicsSupportGroup.)
Date Update
We've rescheduled the TPM-aholics fundraiser (see this thread for more information) to July 19th, 2008. If you'd like to host some friends for this worthy event, contact Genghis or myself. Also, we've run into some difficulties in coordinating our efforts with the campaign, so if you have any connections which might be of use, let us know.
Tomorrow: San Francisco & New York Election-Watching Parties
Those of you in the San Francisco and New York areas: now you don't need to watch the primary results all alone! This is the last primary of the season, so it's your last chance to take in some beverages and enjoy the company of your fellow TPM-aholics while glued to the TV. Also, Bay Area people: Genghis is in San Francisco and will be joining us. And we really don't want him to head to back to New York with the impression that the Bay Area is less fun. So please, come by!
The Fine Print
Please recommend so that this thread stays makes the recommended list.
This event is not supported or endorsed by Talking Points Memo.

Oh, horror! Apparently TPM's blog-post software does not handle tables, even though it appears to in the input block. Oops. Sorry.

I'm just sorry I have to report to work so early every morning....or I'd be in NYC tomorrow night.
I'm even sorrier I left California eight years ago, or I'd be in SF with you tomorrow night.
Alas, I'll be in both of my favorite cities in spirit only, whilst watching CNN/MSNBC for most of Tuesday night stuck in my attic apartment. At least I'll have my kitties and Dem roomie with me...but still.
Enjoy!!

Today's primaries are historic. Today Obama wraps up what seemed unimaginable a year ago to many of us.
I will be throwing back some nice German wine at home, and thinking fondly of those of you I've exchanged thoughts with.
Congratulations to Obama, and to each of you in here who support him for winning this preliminary but amazing prize.
May we take the final hill in five months.

I'll be throwin' back small-batch Kentucky bourbon (Buffalo Trace tonight) from a flask at the Obama celebration in Missoula MT.

Excellent! Anyone else headed out to bar and want to share? (Seriously, it's lot of fun to watch election returns in a public place -- even if you only go by your self or with a couple friends, you end up talking to strangers anyway!)

LisB, articleman -- wish you could join a party in person -- but you'll be there, of course, in spirit. Or maybe the Unity Pony can give you a ride to the parties?

Articleman is an elitist drinker of fancy foreign wine. He can ride his pony by himself. Lis is cool, but she's lame when it comes to party attendance. I hope the pirate marauds us. Larry Geater rocks. See you tonight.

None of that elitist wine for me. I drink the choice of PWT everywhere Miller Lite!
Woo! Tattooed White Trash for Obama! Woo!

I resemble that remark!
Genghis, I will meet you at any bar in NYC on any given Saturday night. I will even schedule a vacation day on a certain Wednesday in November in order to party with you guys. I promise.
As for tonight, I'm drinking Coors Light, ordering a pizza, and dancing around my living room in my pajamas. I have to work in the morning.

You go girl! But it's Bud Lite for me.
Today is a great day!!!! And we are all honored to be here to see it - wherever we may be.

Thanks for recruiting for our party, CaliforniaPaige!
I was CaliforniaAM this past weekend (but LA), I am back in NYC and excited to be watching whatever happens tonight (something good I am sure!) at Dewey's flatiron. This party was really planned by Nina and her friends at ObamaNYC.com (it's a "meet up" group). Genghis and I met her on the subway last week (after an Obama event).
I can't believe this is the last primary!
I'm stuck here at work for far too long and will probably miss Hillary's speech since it seems she wants to speak before the votes are counted. She doesn't really go in for votes and things like that anyway.
I just realized that Dewey's is only a few blocks from where she is speaking tonight. I wonder if this is a coincidence?

I really need to make my avatar smaller. I don't know why my face has to be bigger than everyone else's. It's not so much technical incompetance(although there is that too) but more that I don't think of it when I am on the computer with my pictures. When I manage to make it smaller or find something else to put up besides myself, maybe I will post more.

Lamest excuse for not posting ever.
When is Clinton planning to speak?
June 3, 2008 3:16 PM | Reply | Permalink
Her event starts at 7. Assuming she really does want to speak before results come in, then maybe 7:30 or 8? SD closes at 9pm EST. Obama will probably wait until after 10pm EST when Montana polls close.
I am lamely uncomfortable with my face being twice as tall as yours and CaliforniaPaige's. In fact, it is as tall as an entire pirate up there.

you could just make it smaller and float more black around it:

Ha ha, thanks... I should just be able to make it smaller though, right? Actually, I am supposed to be working and not doing any of this. I am too excited to get anything done.
The 8pm is bad for me because of my dumb tuesday night schedule (seriously, at the beginning of the year I got to chose which night I work late. Tuesday night seemed like a good idea at the time), but really bad for you. 5pm? Hey Hillary. I am a hard working white American. Can you save your speech til I'm done with work?
June 3, 2008 3:52 PM | Reply | Permalink
Also, damn, 8pm? That's such irritating timing. I wouldn't be surprised if her campaign has a couple speeches prepared, and a couple different time lines, depending on how they think things are going.

If she speaks before 9pm EST, she will ruin any chance of my forgiveness, and I will vote against her in the next senate election. It would be a disenfranchising slap in the face to us west coasters.

You sound bitter. We shouldn't be so divided into time zones. It's time to unite into one big time zone. Being three hours behind is un-american.

You contiguous elitest you left out two time zones AK and HI.

Maybe she's speaking before the results come in to avoid conceding tonight. It would be awkward to speak after Obama has the delegates without acknowledging it.
June 3, 2008 7:31 PM | Reply | Permalink
Hmm... Plausible. Or maybe the timing of her speech will depend on what's been negotiated today between the campaigns; in any case, if she does speak prior to the results coming in, I'll take that as a sign she's not conceding tonight.
June 3, 2008 7:43 PM | Reply | Permalink
She did want to speak first to avoid conceding. But she didn't speak as early as I thought. It was 9:30. And he already had the delegates. And really, would it be awkward to speak after he had the delegates and not acknowledge it? She seems to really be okay with that.

Davisadero St. I'm jealous. I'm homesick.
However, I'll be going out with my friends here. One margarita – I have to be into work early tomorrow morning.
I wonder if she'll congratulate him.
I hope you all enjoy your evening.
June 3, 2008 5:01 PM | Reply | Permalink
Is that how they spelled Divisadero when you lived here?
If Clinton concedes, I think that you owe TPM a second margarita.
PS I like the zebra, but I hate it when people change avatars. It's like one's friends getting face lifts (or at least I imagine it to be like that).
June 3, 2008 5:23 PM | Reply | Permalink
heh. Divisadero. Then and now.
Maybe, I should skip that one margarita? The fingers are already clumping up.
What will "concede" look like to you? If she does not say "I concede" will it still be a concession?
I hope not to fail in my job as Unity Zebra today and tomorrow. Glad you like the Zebra. Sweet of you to tell me. I'm a restless person, therefore the continuos changes in avatars. Don't worry, I'll bring back the cat soon. And at some point, the dresses too. ;)
