Snow Shovels and Coffee Mugs
I remember when the Iowa caucus was coming up and the forecast called for snow.
I was avidly visiting Obama's campaign website and reading the blogs and feeling amazed at how Fired Up the supporters were feeling, at how Ready to Go they were feeling. I got so optimistic.
But then I read that the Clinton Campaign was visiting senior citizen homes, urging older supporters to get out and vote, to the point where Hillary spent quite a lot of money on now shovels and coffee mugs at the last minute. I thought, "Wow! She has such a response team, such great marketing." I got worried about the amounts of money she was suddenly spending in Iowa.
Turns out it didn't snow on caucus day in Iowa. Turns out all those shovels were given away for nothing.
I completely forgot about this after all the hubbub from Iowa died down and it was time to concentrate on the next state, until tonight when I read this article on Yahoo from AP's Beth Fouhy:

Thanks LisB, forgot that too. Thanks, with all due respect. Sincerely.

Nice reminiscence. It didn't seem possible back then that Obama or anyone else could beat the Clintons. I'm still pinching myself.
