Robert Wexler for Obama's Vice President! Opinions?

avatar

I would like to hear your opinions on Senator Barack Obama nominating Representative Robert Wexler from Florida as his Vice President.

Wexler has worked tirelessly for Obama these past few months.  He spoke for him at the DNC when discussing Florida and Michigan voters.

He campaigns with and for Obama constantly.

He's recently written a book call "Fire-Breathing Liberal: How I Learned to Survive (and Thrive) in the Contact Sport of Congress"

He's sponsored bills to Impeached the president and vice president.

I'm not sure if any House of Representatives have ever won a presidential or vp race before - anyone know?

Yes he's a liberal and proud of it;  But he is popular in Florida, a state that could help Obama win the election in November.

Opinions?

I've been asking this question for a while. he was brilliant at the RBC meeting and several times after he's appeared on Obama's behalf in the press and done exceedingly well. I'm ALL for it!

OBAMA/WEXLER '08!

As I posted before, I was very impressed with Wexler at the RBC meeting. But, I am starting to research his 'history' on processes and programs -until I do that, can't make an informed decision. Has anyone read his book? If so, please give input. Thanks.

I think there are pros and cons with Wexler.

He seems to be quite intelligent, and he would help Obama with his relationship with Jewish Americans. And Wexler is quick-witted, which can be lots of fun on the campaign trail.

But he is quite young, which doesn't help Obama with the inexperience issue (although I personally like the idea of a new generation of leaders). And Wexler ran unopposed in the last 3 elections, which means he hasn't faced the Republican smear machine.

No harm in asking the question, but I think this is a terrible idea. Wex brings nothing in terms of winning the election and opens the ticket up to charges of liberalism out of step with the all-important mainstream.

He would make a good HUD or EPA head.

I love Wexler and would like to see this ticket. And I think he adds a good bit, in that he's Jewish and a Floridian. I've been pushing him on here for more than a month, but seems most people don't know a lot about him. I've blogged about him a couple times.

Here's the most recent:

It would be disastrous. We're already up against it with Obama's lack of Senate and government experience and you're suggesting compounding the problem.

I'd like to see more profiling of Tim Kaine. Experience as a governor; Catholic; supported Obama from the beginning; with his work in the third world he'd be hugely appealing to the young evalengicals; would help with consolidating Virginia; speaks Spanish so he could be marvellous campaigning in the high Hispanic enrolment states. He acquitted himself well in the one debate I saw him involved in on FNS.

I don't know Wexler, but I will go back and read your blog Aubie84. I know Edwards has been around before and he doesn't really want the job, but did you guys see all those tough working class and Apalachia state polls that Survey USA ran with a variety of combinations on both sides? Obama/Edwards cleaned up! Since the poll was taken, Obama has done better on his own in Ohio, PA and others, but Obama/Edwards against McCain/Pawlenty cleaned up in Virgina and Missouri. Still, the only area McCain is polling way ahead of Obama is "the war on terrorism." He may think he needs somebody to fill that crack.

YES, YES, YES!

Wexler is an excellent choice for VP. He has tons of foreign policy experience due to his role on the foreign affairs committee (and this will fill a void some people feel Obama has). He also is from Florida which will be a key state in the election.

He will put to rest the "Barak is a muslim in disguise" rumors.

I would vote for him, campaign for him, and give money in a heartbeat.

Have doubts? Read his book Fire Breathing Liberal. It's excellent.
