No VP for Strickland: "If drafted I will not run, if nominated I will not accept..."
It looks like Ohio's governor Ted Strickland has taken himself decisively out of the running for Obama's VP. He has given an unequivocal 'Sherman statement' to NPR's All Things Considered.

That's okay because he wasn't on MY shortlist. I like Richardson, Webb, Warner....that's my shortlist, and not in any particular order.

Biden too, I think. Okay, I'm still debating on Biden, but he keeps inching his way up.

Yeah, he wasn't really at the top of mine, either. I like Biden, too, mainly because he's very experienced and witty, though at the same time he comes across just a tad too smug sometimes. I don't have any real, substantive objections to him, though. Not at this point, anyway.
I'm cool on Richardson, but Webb is interesting (even though I don't want to lose his Senate seat) and Warner is definitely interesting. In a way, I'd like to be surprised... maybe go for one of those 'out of the box' names they were bandying around today on the Hill. Of course, that could just mean I've gotten too addicted to the drama of the primary season and I need to go take a Tylenol PM and have a nice lie-down. ;-)

I like everyone but Webb - he's got women problems going back to his military days. If not for "macaca" it would have given him more trouble during the senate run. Obama's got some perceived women issues of his own, so he's not gonna pick Webb. Sorry, Webb. You should have been nicer to the ladies.

I did some checking (my earlier reasoning was vague) - Webb was opposed to allowing women into the Naval Academy, is against allowing women into combat, and spoke out in defense of the naughty boys in the Tailhook scandal. In the grand scheme of things this isn't much, but if Obama doesn't pick Hillary, he'd better not pick anyone with even the faintest whiff of misogyny.
