McCain: "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company."

Dan Abrams broke this story on his show on MSNBC tonight where John McCain is shown saying a few years ago "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company."
The republican pundits on his show went into spin mode. it was classic. Someone on Kos posted it in a matter of minutes with the video.

LOL, we must have been posting at the same time.

yup.

This is after he answered the set-up question a week ago saying that "it's hard to be proud of America" wiffing on the Michelle poke with the soft-ball question.

Obama and the Dems cannot attack with either, but can certainly use them to deflect any Michelle criticism by saying "Michelle didn't mean what she inartfully said anymore than John McCain meant what he said, and both were taken out of context" Michelle is a political novice and didn't know to choose her words better whereas John McCain is a wily vet to politics and thus should know better.

It's all bullshit. McCain is right, I felt a similar feeling after visiting Europe for 2 months. Certainly he must have experienced far more potent a feeling than I. (and I loved Europe)

I agree with Michelle, I honestly hadn't really been proud of our political system until Obama and Ron paul came along.

Crucify me if you want but I agree with both of their statements.

Except the McCain campaign went after Michelle Obama, as soon as she said it.

Recall McCain bringing Cindy up to say that she just wanted to tell us that she has always loved her country.

The McCains are trying to have it both ways.

No one is attacking McCain for saying it....it's an understandable sentiment.

The point of the Abrams segment was to point out the hypocrisy of the right - that Michelle gets attacked for saying it and McCain gets a free ride.

The best part of the segment was Jonathan Alter going after the radio host guy. He seemed genuinely offended by the crap the guy was spewing.

Does anyone know if this was the same guy that Chris Matthews ripped a new one over the whole appeasement issue?

This whole discussion that the media is perpetuating is utter bullshit. I don't get how anyone could really believe that a person would run for the highest office in the land if they seriously hated America. But so many people (dumbasses) think that the Obamas are out to destroy America with their angry and bitter muslim blackness. Let's be real. The Obamas are suspect because they aren't white. They don't "trust" them. And when I say they, I mean the dumbasses. They are just hiding their racism behind patriotism this time around. Clever.
