Magical Internet Money Power
Sorry for the repeat posts, but why is there so much mystery to "internet money"? I must hear 20-25 times a day that Barack has amazing appeal "on the internet", and "if it wasn't for the intenet" he wouldn't have any advantage at all.
Why is it that no political journalists, and I mean none, seem to understand the concept that "internet money" comes from real poeple, not some magical cyber-pot-o-gold. Its like they are intimating that he's cheating by not raising as much money with rubber-chicken fundraisers. I'd like to see the term internet fundraising replaced with small dollar donations. If the GOP can replace Global Warming with Climate Change, we should be able to change this lexicon.

What worries me is that much of Obama's magic money is coming from the left. And as he (necessarily) moves to the center in order to win the election, I expect his online donations may go down--not up. We'll see what happens this month, but it's my guess we all may be in for a bit of a shock.

Then we should encourage Obamicans to donate. They have all the money anyway. :O)

I should also mention, for context, that the words in quotes should be read in the voice of comic book guy from the simpsons.

Ha! That's how I heard "internet money" as I was reading it!
And, let's be honest, it's not real people making these donations - it's little gnomes who work with the underpants gnomes. One takes your panties the other snags your wallet. Remember - step one, underpants. Step two - ? (wallets). Step three - profit (for Obama).
You see, Obama's ability to bring parties together actually includes the gnomes who happily share their wealth with him. They just use "the internet" as a way to give Obama the money because they wouldn't be able to resist stealing his underpants, and he made it very clear that if they make him attend an event commando, he'll dunk them like baseketballs.
You see? Mystery solved.
(Worst explanation ever)

Good point. Somehow Obama is being painted as the big money candidate but McCain has more big donors, they're just swamped by the small dollar donors that the media should be writing about.

Why do you believe that much of Obama's money comes from the "Left". You sound like MSM intimating that the people who passionately support Obama are crazy wild-eyed maniacs.
Nothing is further from the truth - we are a blend of average Americans - many, if not most, of us are just tired of the bias, bigotry and idiocy of the MSM and believe that this country is in real danger of losing our Constitutional guarantees. We are desperate for a change. Sorry I am just steaming from listening to a very biased supposedly balanced comments on the Keith Olbermann show written by Peter Boyle in the New Yorker and your comments putting people in tight, little boxes and categories just adds to it.

I believe much of Obama's money is coming from the left because it is. I also believe that the reason Hillary and McCain have had such a tough time raising small-donor contributions online is because the activist base of the Democratic Party puts their money where their ideals are, and more centrist voters don't. Hell, they don't even decide who to vote for until the day of the election. There are plenty of more moderate voters who support Obama, but I'll continue to believe that his most active contributors are the activist, left-leaning base of the Party.

Exactly - I wonder if we'll see the evidence of this following the FISA vote this week.

At this point in the contest, I'm lookin' at who's runnin' for Congress and considerin' who might be in greater need of my lefty funds than Obama. Because I can. Because, until and unless I'm convinced otherwise, I think we've got the White House in the bag - whereas there are plenty of Bush Dog Democrats still suckin' at a teat that I wanna see dry up sooner than later.

Folks are warming up to doing monetary business on the Internet. It's obvious to me that more and more donors will give money through the Internet; I wouldn't be surprised if the next presidential election was DOMINATED by internet contributions, for all candidates involved. It's just so much simpler than writing a check, addressing an envelope, and licking a stamp. Not that those things are really all that difficult, but the Internet is THE WAY lots of people do business now.
