Live From San Francisco - She Will Be Making No Decisions Tonight

I'm here in San Francisco at Club Waziema, everyone's favorite Ethiopian club, with California Page, Oakviolin, and a bunch of other non-TPMers. I made two  beer bets tonight:

1) Hillary would not concede
2) Hillary would not mention HillaryClinton.com (an implicit concession)

Looks like I broke even. Sadly. May it end this week. Looking forward to Obama's victory speech.

(Pointless thread for discussion purposes only.)

PS I'd like to thank the academy...

PPS 9/11

Now all we need are NY, Memphis, and Boulder to log on, and we'll have a true blog-from-the-bar thread!

Oh, and for the record, I won both bets. Haha.

I did not have computer at bar. In fact I barely got cell phone reception. Mostly I just got rum and coke. Would have been fun to be in SF. Divisadero! I will be there in August.

Excellent. Maybe we can have another party! Only thing I can think of in August is the convention. You around during that timeframe? Or can you think of another excuse (er, reason)?

I'll be in your city this weekend, actually, though I'm sure everyone is election-partied-out by now.

I did over do the partying a bit last night. I totally blame all embarassing behavior on Obama-excitement. But no, I am not election-partied-out.

I will be there only for August 10-15. It is during the week. I have to be in so cal for a wedding on the weekend. The only excuse for a party I have that week is my birthday. Do you think I could have an Obama fundraiser birthday party?

A Birthday for 'Bama! It might just work... Let's plan the July 19th fundraiser first. :-)

Yes! I will be here for July 19. If I asked people to give money to 'Bama on my birthday they may not buy me anything.

When I said in comment to Sargent's live basement blogging that I'd be doing likewise from the Craig Memorial Men's Room in MPLS, i lied.

20,000! Barack's on NOW!

JohnMcCSF is here too. And oakviolin, but she's shy.

Yeah, I'm here too.

I get the feeling you support the local pathologicals who go by the "progressive" moniker.

Your people have ruined this once great city.

Are you the same John McCutchen who lived in Charlottesville? Or is that bad blog etiquette to ask this question? If it is bad etiquette, please forgive.

No but I am always curious where the various en, in's, eon's, and on's came from.

Lived in NOLA, DC and now SF. California settlers we were

Anyone counting Obama's thank yous?

Obama's speech leaves McCain and Hills in the dust!

Speech quality...
1. Obama
2. Clinton
3. Donald Duck
4. John McCain

I predict a rout in November

Don't get over-confident. What you're forgetting is that Donald is not on the ballot in the fall. A lot of those bitter, hard-working ducks might just vote for McCain.

I knew that someone would play the species card.

I'm not at a party, but I'll officially represent Austin, Texas--if nobody else has yet, that is.

What's on tap?

I'm drinking Newcastle. I'd be drinking Montana beer, but I can't think of any.

I knew it! You're a closet Tory.

I kinda see why, (aside from it being a fine brew, ) that it would be an appropriate choice. (hic)

Coals to, and all dat.

:D

Paige? Couldja buy Genghis a round for me? Pay you back later.

You got it, bee. And I'm drinking Anchor Steam, a good ol' SF beer.

Darnit. That was me. Forgot to use the right browser window. (Genghis was the only one nerdy enough to bring his computer to the bar.)

You rock! Thanks!!

I owe you. Anchor Steam? That's a potent brew. Luckily, they have it on tap at my fave bar here in M'town.

You all have a great one. I miss the City very much. I may be back there, eventually. I miss the crazy way the lights come on the Bay bridge.

:)

(clink)

Just think about the traffic crossing the bay bridge, and you'll probably stop missing it. (What's your Bay Area connection? Seems like everyone has one.)

Worked and lived there for some years. My daughter was born there. My folks lived in Palo Alto.

Pure class. Getting someone else to buy me a beer whom you have no intention of paying back. Why dontcha come to a NY party and buy me one yerself?

Hum. I did show up, but I got tired of everyone swatting at me.

Midweeks are tough for 300 mile round trips. If we could do a weekend, I could swing it. I'll even drive by Newtown and Pelham and pick up the girls, Lis and Hillary.

Weekdays are really tough. I'm so glad you're seeing SF. What a fine city! If you're staying near the Embarcadero, Sweet Joanna's has the best cranberry scones on Earth.

Just sayin.

I will pay Paige back. I'll make a donation in her name to Obama. 'kay?Izzat acceptable?

Multi-hued brat!

Midweeks are tough for 300 mile round trips.

I didn't pack my violin. Otherwise, I'd be playing it.

PS OK I don't have a violin. But Oakviolin does. You're lucky that she left already.

Ok, bee, you're on the hook for a one-beer donation to the Obama campaign. $5, which I think is the minimum. Though if you want to up it $10 you can virtually buy me a beer too!

You bet! I'll make it $15 so I can have one with youse

:D

This is like one of those fundraising activities where you get your friends to sponsor you to do something like athletic -- walk a mile for people with cancer, that sort of thing. 'Cept in this case the sponsored activity is beer drinking. I like it.

It's my very first donation to Obama, I'll have you know. It'll have to wait until the weekend, tho.

I spent all my beer funds at IKEA this week.

:(

I set up an Obama fundraiser page for you, bee! And for anyone else who'd like to "give a beer" to someone on TPM. So whenever you recover your beer money, this page is for you:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/TPMObamaBeer

And I'm proud to have helped enable your first Obama contribution.

Awesome!

Bookmarked!

Rock star!

D'oh! I guess I just blew my cover...

Okay. I'm HMC. I couldn't resist being naughty for just a little while... >:-D

Love the calendar! I hope you keep it up.

Thanks, Astral-Opus! I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but I enjoyed my week as a troll! I irritated a few people...and it was fun! Heh! I didn't know I had it in me.

I saw your calendar avatar and looked forward to finding out what day today was!

Heh! It's Zoot Suit Riot Day.

Hang on! I'll do this the right way....

I just want to let everybody know, for historical reference, that June 3 was the day the week-long Zoot Suit Riots began, when a mob of 60 from the Los Angeles Naval Reserve Armory beat up everyone perceived to be Hispanic.

I just automatically think of June 3 as Zoot Suit Riot Day, in case that ever pops up in conversation and it seems inexplicable or inappropriate to you.

That's just how I remember it's June 3.

So don't freak out or make a big deal out of it if I bring it up.

Ditto. Funny stuff.

(I) Hillary Clinton, your future president, KNEW it was you Laura Jordan! YESSS!

Much Love,
Hillary.

Hey, Paige! Hey Genghis! Hey Oakviolin!

Will one of you guys over there drink a Fat Tire for me? Or a frosty-cold Lone Star?

Wow. What a magnificent speech!

John McCain and the Republicans are so screwed this fall.

Cheers!

Ha. Paige and I had just commented on the HMC comment. Figured it was you or boolala who had inadvertently commented with the wrong login.

No TX beers here. Sorry. Is Fat Tire from TX?

:-D

Naw, Fat Tire is just one of my faves!

Pinot Noir (Italy) here in PA.

Cheers to you all! Great speech. Great win.

Good evening everybody!
I'd just like you to say with me "President Barack Obama"

Genghis, I've put my beers on your tab, I hope that's ok.

I watched Hillary's speech tonight and at the point that she said "no decision tonight" I turned off the tv. I'm a little surprised at how pissed I am about her not conceding tonight. What's the difference, right? I think it's the idea that she has any choice left but to concede. She's had more than enough time to plan for tonight. And she seemed to be just leading on her supporters tonight. Not what we needed to hear from her on this otherwise wonderful night.

Cheers, Yoda

Howdy Yoda, Hi All!!!!

I know what you mean. When the 'no decision' comment came up I amazed my husband with such a string of explatives..I dont think he thought I had it in me. It started with something that rhymes with Bucking Fitch.... :)

I'm a little surprised at how pissed I am about her not conceding tonight.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was shocked at my anger level too. Then that made me even angrier, because I feel like she's trying to dampen Obama's moment--crossing the finish line. She knew this was coming; she had time to prepare for it.

But he made a magnificent speech anyway...try as she might, she just can't dim his light.

HOORAY!

Meh. I'm not surprised. I wasn't expecting a concession. I'm only surprised that I just wrote "Meh".

Where's articleman? So much for his "It All Ends Tomorrow, or, Wishing Hillary Well" post.

Right?

No articleman, no LisB, no DF....

I wish they'd at least drop in and say hey.

By the way, I missed saying hey to JohnMcCSF.

Hey, JohnMcCSF! What're you drinkin'?

Cheers!

Interesting you brought up articleman, Genghis. I was thinking about his blog as well.

I know some thought my comments about it's really not over until the loser acknowledges were a bit intense... and I would have loved it if tonight dozens of people came out and said: "We told you so clearthinker!"

It all reminds me a scene in PATTON where he acknowledges at the bigging of the Battle of the Bulge that, in fact, the war wasn't over.

Enjoy your beer... but shame on you for not indulging in more of SF's local brews!

Never liked Anchor Steam or Sierra Nevada. I think that she'll concede this week. Maybe tomorrow.

Now I know you don't belong here.

Replied about the beer below. Stupid too-many-links-causes-error-that-then-drops-reply-to-info error. (Because obviously that's more important than when Clinton concedes. I had originally pegged that for Thurs, then last weekend pushed it out to Friday... anyway, now I'm back to Thursday. It's like that game where you change into the shorter line in the grocery store, and then person ahead of you needs to pay with a check but doesn't have their ID.)

Let's recommend this sucker up!

Thanks for choosing a location 8 blocks away!

You're welcome! (And it's < 2 blocks away for me, so really I don't deserve thanks.)

Genghis, I'm jealous that you're in SF tonight. Was this strictly an Obama-related trip? Or are you there for business as well?

Dang, I love SF.

Obama is just a side job. I'm here for a wedding and a baby tour. 4 new babies to see.

I just flashed on a Seinfeld episode that took place in the Hamptons. ("Ya gotta see the baby!") Everyone had to stifle a gag when they caught just a glimpse of the kid in its crib.

A baby tour.

I hope the babies are attractive and don't look like LBJ.

Not that am any expert on accidentally posting as the wrong person, but I recommend opening multiple browsers, so each can house its own identity.

Always there with the helpful technical advice...

Thanks Paige! You're very kind.

:-)

I thought Allsburg lived a bit further North.

PS I'd like to thank the academy...

I read that as "I'd like to thank the alchemy..."

See, when she said "no decision tonight" I guzzled two glasses. Almost did not remember I'd done it. She's literally driven me to drink.

Starting today I plan to lead a small band of Clinton loyalists (call them my cadre) into the Blue Ridge Mountains where we will begin mobilizing the local peasantry and sewing the seeds for the Clintonista revolution. Our group will be known as the Clintonista Revolutionary Action Party and, like all good movements of the kind, will be known by the acronym C.R.A.P. We expect to find plenty of hard-working white supporters down there. We will start small, staging raids on internet cafes and other elitist gathering places. When news of our exploits spreads, we expect the movement to broaden, and eventually attract the greatest number of voters who ever voted for a nominee in the primaries ever. Our counter convention, staged in an abandoned airplane hangar will feature bluegrass, skeet shooting and shots of JD, which we will gladly share with honorary commander in chief John McCain. While we do not expect to win anything, we do plan on destroying Obama's chances in the Fall. Actually, we're somewhat delusional, so maybe we can secure Hillary a place on the ticket. Not as VP, mind you. Her ego is too big for that. Just a big place on the ticket that she can decorate as she likes. Of course, being a guerilla of the armchair variety, I will be directing the operation from the comfort of Brownstone Brooklyn. Billy Glad has signed on as Director of Propaganda. Desidero is coordinating strategy. Otto F. will be Minister of Offense.

I look forward to it. We will fry your pathetic "rebellion" like a squirrel in a popcorn popper. Your temerity is no match for our superior mathematical advantages, not to mention our supercilious derision.

PS I think that gotalife would make an excellent press secretary.

In my one margarita induced haze, it seemed that she said something like -- "I have the popular vote!!! Yea!! I will make no decisions tonight," and he said "I thank this person, that person, another person, my friends, my allies, my staff and supporters, my campaign manager, and my grandmother. Also, Hillary Clinton is a fabulous campaigner and candidate and helped me become a better candidate."

No wonder I like him.

Genghis owes TPM beer, margarita and elitist wine.

Ask not what your Genghis can buy for you but what you can buy for your Genghis.

Heh. ;)

My Genghis. My Genghis??!!!!

[falls off chair, looks around for that damned perpetually disappearing fainting couch…)

You're uber-hawt, I must say, especially in that flashing shirt. I like your coloring too.

But, alas, I lust for Mr. Crankypants thesaurus fondling hands and withered husk. Only Mr. Crankypants can be my uber-fluff.

Although, a few more complements about my next few avatars and much can change. ;)

Seriously, I hope you enjoyed your visit to SF.

I may be a little drunk. And it may be raining. But I'm not making any decisions tonight.

There were a zillion people at the NYC event. I heard a rumor there was someone named Courtney who claimed to be from TPM. Did not find her. They kept sticking tv cameras in our faces and this time they weren't from Finland. It was an amazing night and I ran into a bunch of random people I had met at other Obama events and other things in life.

Cool. Sorry that I missed it. We had a photographer--though it was not clear who he was representing--but no TV, Finnish or otherwise.

Courtney must have been courgood. She has been threatening to come to an event.

t'was me - hiccuppp.

Genghis - sorry I showed when you were in SF - not avoiding you or a'thing.

AM -

Sorry I missed you - yes the heat and klieg lights were annoying. In Dewey's the heat definitely rises.

Next time.

Sorry I missed you. It was crazy there... I thought about asking some random people if they are Courtney but didn't... Nina, one of the event planners was the one who told me you were there.

Thank goodness I'd already heard Hillary wasn't conceding tonight, or I'd have spewed my (inexpensive, minimally elitist) Cab all over the carpet.

I'm from the South, and "tacky" is practically profanity.

What's beyond tacky? That was Hillary's attempt at control. Do you know she held her rally 3 levels below the basement at the college or university? No TV monitors and no cell phone or Blackberry reception so... her supporters wouldn't know Obama had won until after she spoke.

John McC - I'm in the Twin Cities. Are you, or were you just wishing? :)

Laura, we've got family - including babies - in the Bay area, and they served us Fat Tire out there last year, then Mpls/St. Paul liquor stores started carrying it a few months later.

Wish I'd been out of lurk here long enough to know y'all and for y'all to know me some. Well, maybe between now and November, there'll be some chances.

Any other MN Twin Citians around?

Welcome to the party, Scott. Get yourself a funky avatar.

As much as I would have loved to see her concede, I think that would have taken something away from the moment that Obama called himself the nominee. She had to talk about hillaryclinton.com. We count on her to explain to us about the internet every week.

Stupid of me to have bet against it. Doesn't matter. Paige won two beers, but the loser left without paying her gambling debts.

It wasn't the beer that counted, so much as the winning, really. (Though maybe if that woman had paid up, the beer would have mattered more. Hmmm.)

I think it's in poor taste to mention 9/11 at a time like this, especially with the memories still fresh in people's minds. I know what you're implying about Hillary and 9/11, and this kind of gutter tactic is certainly beneath you and I assume you'll take responsibility should some sicko get hold of this meme and run with it. And might I remind you that it's likely to get picked up by Hillary's Mnemonic Calendar or even Giuliani's, and then we'll all be in a heap of doo-doo.

I'm sorry - did you miss Hil's Rudy-like closing where she mentioned just that?

this kind of gutter tactic is certainly beneath you and I assume you'll take responsibility should some sicko get hold of this meme and run with it.

Oh you mean like assassination?

9/11?

Did Giuliani hack your account?

What courgood said.

PS courgood, Desidero was snarking

Are you still drinking?? If so I'm impressed. I meanwhile, celebrated like a real American last night, some Coors light followed by box wine when that ran out.

Got to chat with that young Hearst competitor while waiting for the bus outside. I hope I gave him correct directions to the SF for Obama gathering at Tosca. Forgot to ask when/where we could see his work.

Anyone have the presence of mind?

http://www.johntullyphoto.com

he said he'd be able to share his pics of us as well, as long as they're only for personal use (and not used for campaign purposes).

I didn't know that!

O'bama uses David Binder Research as one of his pollsters. Office just a few blocks from here He's he King of SF Pollsters

Binder is one of the best pollsters I have ever seen. He's an SF guy who got his start with my SF poli sci mentor Rich DeLeon. I've heard many presentations, seminars. He's gay too.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

Negra Modelo throughout the Mission District of San Francisco. It's the dark beer of choice here and throughout Mexico. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were there--shots of Padrone and Pear Mescal in celebration. Those two communists know a thing or two about street politics, claiming that Obama truly is a closet radical full of the right kind of compromise to create radical change over a 16 year period, in which Kathleen Sibelius, his VP, will continue the Obama tradition.

My favorite local options are: Anderson Valley, Mendocino Brewing Company, and Speakeasy Ales and Lagers. Anchor is a default standby if I can't think quickly enough. And Sierra toward the bottom of my list of mid-weight beer.

Peace, Obamawan. Great post.

ARGH!

THO IT SOUND TOO TRITE
ME NO INTENDED SLIGHT
BLOWN OFF IN A STORM!

Hillary doesn't need to make any decisions. The American people already decided.
