Just say NO to swiftboating.
Well it's started. The first repost of an anti-McCain screed held
over from his first run at the GOP nomination. The assessment: McCain's
insane. Well, duh - it even rhymes!
I'm just glad it isn't the "Songbird McCain" group's stuff.
They go so far as to call him a VC collaborator. These guys are the original
"Swiftboat Veterans for Truth". They even have a similar name, the
link to which I will not post here.
This is a general call for folks to avoid getting swept up in this stuff. It is laying, like so much garbage, in the dark little nooks and crannies of the internets just waiting for some hapless fool to think:"FOUND IT!!!! THIS'LL SINK MCCAIN FOR SURE!". Don't go there.
In fact, I'd like to encourage all democrats/Obama supporters to do their best to debunk this stuff. There is no reason to attack the heroism of a man who can be so easily beaten on merit alone. As important, if they feel his patriotism is attacked - this could easily become a rallying cry for the GOP base (in an amazing twist of irony).
Phillip Butler is a graduate of the US Naval Academy who went to school with McCain. Later, he had the misfortune of being held in the same POW camp. Mr. Butler gives a heartfelt and honorable assessment of McCain's fitness to lead, from such a position of authority and for all the right reasons. I strongly believe that it should be used any time these types of assertions are found.

Anyhow, if you agree - keep the link handy.

I wouldn't even push these articles as I believe they'd serve essentially the same purpose as the swiftboater ones you are condemning.
McCain should be challenged on his politics, not on his Military record. Leave that scumbag tactic for the Republicans and their band-aids.

BTW: It's not articles it's an article. I just can't link around here for some reason.

Am I reading this wrong? These seem to be the same issues that I have with him.
I'm not saying go troll this crap around, I'm saying if you find a post that said McCain was a VC collaborator, this guy was THERE and says it isn't true. AND makes the same points I often like to make.

It will also be a popularity contest between the two candidates (a political version of American Idol). McCain will take the high road until the polls show him slipping and/or struggling. Karl Rove has already promised a 'dirty' campaign without McCain's blessings.

I guess my view is to discount the comments from anyone who refers to the conflict in Iraq as Bush's war. Bush is just the latest in a long string. The current conflict in Iraq is just a continuation of the Arab Revolt of 1912, and looks almost the same as the events ten, but with better results. Anyone reading the history of that event would be astounded - it reads like today's headlines.
We ignore history at our peril. I am constantly amazed at how little of our own or other's history that most seem to know or even be aware of.

"Look into my eyes, look DEEPLY into my eyes, you are growing sleepy..."
Beware of Brainwashers, Thought Reformers, Framers and Concern trolls among us.. rememeber what Don Vito said to Michael just before he died..."Whoever comes to you with a deal they are the traitor..."
Anyone who gets on THIS blog now that the Obama Clinton battles are over, and tries to tell us to go easy on MCCain, is just ONE OF THEM!
The only thing we should avoid here is promoting outright lies, but if the evidence is outrageously overwhelming, like MccAIN'S "songbird" tales, then it is not only fair game, it is something the public should know about.
If McCain is willing to disenfranchise the families of ALL his fellow POW/MIA's just to hide his own collusion, the public should know about it.
I will not trust ANYONE who tells us to back off McCain, for any reason, as long as there is validity to the argument.
And if you think McCain's SONGBIRD history have no validity, you haven't really looked into it.
The swiftboaters twisted the truth, we are just telling the truth about McCain. So stop resisting the truth, methinks thou doest protest too much, and anyone who tries to deflect ANY truthful comments or posts about McCain will go on my personal "trollwatch list".
Cede the high ground? Boy, howdy, that is a joke, when ignoring the truth represents the high ground, we clearly haven't read our military history very well. Now we'll get a deluge of "lets play nice" posts and comments, and "treat the R's with all due respect" leanings, if you try to shove that comity crap down our throats after what these war mongers did to our childrens' children, both in terms of the environment and their inherited Iraq war debt, I'll come back at you every time just like this.
Take your comity and SHOVE IT! Somewhere it won't get a sunburn...
McCain's a big boy, playing a big game, and everything he ever lied about, every audio tape he ever made for the NVA, or every wife he cheated on or every penny he ever stole for his cntractor buddies in AZ should be revealed to the public.
Your comity died with 5,000 US Soldiers in Iraq, and millions of murdered, displaced and innocent Iraqis whose only crime was to be an Iraqi when a Bush wanted to kill Saddam so his bubbas could to create a monopoly on oil and raise the prices..

"so his bubbas could to create a monopoly on oil and raise the prices.."
Before anyone tries to dispute that simple logic, go fill up your gas tank, then come back and make your argument.

I agree in that anyone who tells me to go easy on McCain is to be regarded with suspicion.
I disagree with anyone who thinks its OK to use anything McCain said in the throes of torture as credible information. This is exactly why we (supposeldly) do not allow tourture in this country. The practice is cruel and inhumane and the information gathered is not credible.

PS... As for taking McCain on based on his politics, the people who will vote against McCain based on the reality of his politics are already solidly on the Democratic side, the only ones left to sway are the blind psuedo-patriots who claim they worship Jesus and wave the flag, but they are really the other way around, worshipping the flag and waving Jesus without any real understanding of what either means.
So if you think you can talk sense about political issues with these people, you are just mistaken, they will only respond if they are spoken to in their own language of blind passion.
If those same people knew McCain was a serial wife-cheater, a bubba-contract provider, and a collaborator with the VC (which is not a myth, too many people heard those tapes when they were broadcats for it to have been a lie) they would find it all the harder to support him.
They (the people you don't want to offend) are already pissed at McCain's egregious flip-flopping on guns, abortion, gay marriage and immigration, (The Fantastic Four!) if they hear enough about the other inconvenient McCain truthiness you seem so wont to sweep under the media rug, they will finally have a justification for NOT voting for him.
Many are already on the edge, either considering a write-in alternative or just not voting. If they know the truth they will take that final step towards keeping their own internal integrity intact.
