John McCain - Unusually Slick and Cruel
The story found at the link below, which chronicles McCain's dumping of his first wife because of the injuries and changed appearance she suffered in a car accident, had new info of which I was not previously aware. The article includes the only interview I've seen of the original wife and comments from folks such as Ross Perot, who paid for her medical care after the accident. In the end, I find myself agreeing with Perot, who terms McCain as "unusually slick and cruel," even for a politician.

A few snippets from the story for those who don't like to link.
"When McCain – his hair turned prematurely white and his body reduced to little more than a skeleton – was released in March 1973, he told reporters he was overjoyed to see Carol again.
But friends say privately he was ‘appalled’ by the change in her appearance. At first, though, he was kind, assuring her: ‘I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine.’
...
In 1979 – while still married to Carol – he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage.
Carol and her children were devastated. ‘It was a complete surprise,’ says Nancy Reynolds, a former Reagan aide.
...
Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.
‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.
...
But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics.
‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.
‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’"

Thank you for the link. This is *really* disturbing, and yet it includes a lot of solid quotes from fairly solid people (ie, Ross Perot, who originally paid Carol's medical bills while McCain was a POW).

Even the 'angriest' of Clinton's female supporters should come running to Obama's cadre if they become aware of McCain's history regarding women - both in his personal and political actions.

Perot seems likely to be a thorn in McCain's side -- not the first Republican to have suffered from that thorn.

It's going to be a long 5 months before November. We will have time to get to know McCain real well. This story sounds real and substantiated, and will surely trouble all but the most delusional McCain supporters. The Republicans will have their ways of tearing down Obama - I trust his campaign will return the complement while keeping their hands clean. Sounds underhanded, but, hey, look at the gang of creeps, liars, scandal mongers and criminals we are up against in this election.

Thank you for posting thi8s. I've been waiting for people to discuss the real John McCain, the sleazy serial adulterer who betrayed his faithful wife. I guess he missed the part of the vows "in sickness and in health".
Next up: Racist bigot McCain against MLK day and using the word "g--k" for Asians. He was unapologetic about usign it as late as 2000.
This guy is much uglier and meaner than he appears.

Well hold on, this is only partial reporting. The entire story that I saw (over at Daily Kos a few days ago) had McCain's wife sticking up for him, saying he's a good man, and that he'd provided well for her and paid all her medical bills.

There are so many good reasons to vote against McCain. We do not need to attack him on personal issues.
